American Made Luxury Cruiser.

For the occupants of the front seats the 2022 Honda Insight Touring is a luxurious American Made cruiser with supple leather bucket seats and a quiet, smooth ride that really coddles ones bootie! I have read reviews about the CVT and how the reviewers hate them... I really love the CVT as it does the work without shifting... it fits the overall driving experience really well. This car is super easy to go the speed limit in, and is easy to avoid uneconomical habits like jackrabbit starts and stops. The motors work with you to deliver smooth power, basically if you drive this like it's a limousine with a client who isn't in a hurry in back you will get the most out of this car. The lanekeep assist and adaptive cruise control do about 65% of the work on long road trips, the driver is redundancy and you become a part of the cars tech package. One of my first drives was on a pitch black night between Ely and Wells Nevada, it was pretty harsh because it was SO dark and cars 15 miles away seemed much closer. The Lanekeep Assist really helped as cars actually got close. The headlights are super bright and most people flashed me like my brights were on. I am an older person and I am finding the tech to be very easy to use, and helpful in safe operation of the car. The milage isn't as great as projected, I'm hoping that is because it's summer in Vegas and the AC is working overtime. I'm hoping that will change in winter. The sound system is amazing! Professional reviews also gripe about the engine "roaring" as the car goes uphill. I will say that if you were INSIDE the engine compartment, yes it is probably a "roar". However, because you are isolated in one of the 5 seats in the passenger compartment, it is a very faint and distant "roar" that just sounds like normal engine operation. I am in love with this car, and didn't buy it because it's a Hybrid, but rather in spite of it. Keep in mind, this car drinks 87 octane fuel... (usually mid grade). I aslo considered the Mazda 3, Kia K5, Hyundai Elantra, and Nissan Sentra SE. I ultimately picked the Honda based on the cabin layout and push button gearshift. I purchased it sight unseen and waited 4 weeks for it to arrive (I bought it the day after manufacture and VIN assignment). This is by far the most comfortable, quiet and smooth riding car I've ever owned... I would compare the ride and quality to my grandmother's 1981 Buick Riveria (in 1981).. not quite as "floatly", but close. And so much better in layout and driving experience. If you are a person who likes to go fast and get fast quickly, or have more than 2 people in the car on a regular basis... skip the Insight, it is not the car for you. But if you like to go safely, comfortably, smoothly and economically... definitely consider the 2022 Insight. This is definitely the perfect car for an older person, it has everything that people who used to drive the sedans that Buick, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac would want, plus it's made in Greensburg, Indiana. (The Buick SUV I tested was made in Korea).

Love the car, great drive and looks great. Getting better than projected MPG. Needs to improve three areas, 1- needs a spare tire, 2- road noise is more than I like even with the standard Michelin green tires, 3- passenger seat has no way to elevate or lower seat. 7/8/22 - The Insight is still running fine, no issues, 55.5mpg

Great car

I bought a 2021 Honda Insight EX to use as a delivery vehicle for work. I negotiated below MSRP and ended up agreeing to $22,000 for the purchase (in Southern California.) This is my first hybrid and it took about two weeks to learn how to drive this car for fuel economy. My old lead-foot ways are a thing of the past now! I was averaging maybe 42 mpg at first because of my tendency to smash the accelerator but now I get 52 mpg+. I drive this car 8 hours a day, 5 days a week so comfort is important. To that end, the driver’s seat in the EX package is not as comfortable as the one in the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta it replaced. In hindsight, it might have been worth it to pay extra for the Touring trim’s leather seats. The overall feel of sitting in this car is very modern. The 8” LED infotainment system is useful and practical, the modeling of the door molding and center console have this wrap around effect that makes me feel a) protected and b) like I’m in a spaceship. The 8 speaker package in the EX trim is your basic car audio: sounds good, not great. It sounds like the gas motor is engineered for lower RPM and when it kicks on it makes a low, grinding hum that sounds out of place. This is due to the fact most of your time spent behind the wheel is whisper quiet, with the pedestrian warning whir omitting a space-aged sound like the car is a UFO. The car handles very well, making corners, changing lanes, parallel parking and the like a breeze and kind of fun; it sort of handles like a sports car. The car has a good amount of acceleration when you need it so you’ll never worry about making a pass in time. The brakes are top notch and the brake assistant is handy, slowing you down automatically if it senses a possible front-end collision. The trunk space is probably a little more than my Jetta, I never measured this but it just seems I can fit more in there. There is no spare tire included with this car. WTF? I’m not sure how they thought that shouldn’t be a standard safety feature? I love the way my car looks. I got it in silver and it’s just so damn pretty. The more I see Insights in other colors the more I like my silver Insight. Worth a look, though if seat comfort is a must consider the more expensive Touring package or maybe look at another hybrid. That being said, overall it’s a great car and I’m very pleased with this purchase 8 months later.

An insightful purchase

Charlotte49er, 09/11/2021
2022 Honda Insight Touring 4dr Sedan (1.5L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)

I’ve been a mostly loyal Honda driver since 1986 and have found them to be reliable and practical vehicles through lengthy periods of ownership (I currently own two 2007 models). My local dealership is good, but I’ve primarily relied on a small shop that specializes in servicing Honda’s for maintenance and repairs since 1989. This largely impacted my decision to purchase another Honda. I attempted to expand my horizons and watched hours of car reviews on YouTube and poured over Consumer Reports before going on test drives. At the end of it all, I found myself back at the Honda dealership. Considering my new 40 mile round trip drive for work, a hybrid promising 50+ mph seemed like the practical purchase. Wanting to reward myself for my hard work and long-term frugality, I opted for the Touring trim level. While I didn’t think much beforehand of adaptive cruise control and the brake hold feature, I’ve really enjoyed using them during my commutes to and from work on a heavily traveled interstate and local highways. The additional safety features (lane keep assist and emergency braking) give me comfort. After nearly two weeks of ownership I’ve racked up more than 400 miles averaging 46+ mpg overall and 60+ mpg on some daily commutes. Having not purchased a new vehicle since 2007, I’m impressed with the technology they’ve packed into this car and how easy it’s been to learn to use. What it’s lacking: lumbar support, seat memory, wireless Apple CarPlay, Qi charging pad. Other areas for improvement: My wife complained that the passenger seat height is awfully low (she’s only 5’2”) making it hard for her to see. I think the driver seat has to be positioned somewhat low for the height of the armrests. Lastly, I’m old school and would have appreciated a spare tire being standard on the Touring trim level. (I paid extra for one.) Other: A CVT is new for me and it is and adjustment that is taking time. I wouldn’t let this dissuade you from ownership. I find the styling of this vehicle is much more attractive and sporty than the Prius. It’s size makes it easy to park in the parking deck at work. Trying to maximize fuel economy is addictive and like a game. So far, the positives of this car far outweigh the shortcomings. My commute is much better than I’d imagined. Will all owners find the Touring trim level worth the added costs? Probably not, but I’m a sucker for heated seats, a leather steering wheel, upgraded sound system, and a sunroof.

My first hybrid. Love the fact it looks and feels like a luxury car at regular car price. Better mileage than advertised. Averaging 50 mpg in mixed driving with Touring trim level. Love the leather, heated seats. Still learning all the safety tech.(has everything, even stuff I didn't know I'd end up liking :) Drives smooth and handles really well on back roads. Fun in turns and quiet. Plenty of go when you need it and still efficient. Like the fact they are unique and not 10 of them everywhere I go.

A Hybrid With Style & Features

After owning several Prius models, I decided to change to a Honda Insight. This hybrid, especially in the top-of-the-line Touring model, is loaded with many features including a moonroof, GPS, many safety features, leather seats and more. Yes, these can be found on Honda's competition but at a higher price. The Insight looks like a typical sedan, so if exterior design is a concern look no further. My only negative is that the fuel economy is slightly less than the competition. This is probably due to the extra features loaded onto this vehicle. If you're looking for a hybrid loaded with extras, seriously consider the Honda Insight.

This car is the hidden gem in Honda’s lineup. Looks, feels and drives great. I routinely get 60+ MPG in the warmer months. My only complaints are: no sunglasses holder is a bummer, no seat position memory, auto wipers are basically useless, the gas motor can be loud, no spare tire and it’s low to the ground so you could hit a curb etc when parking so you should be careful. Be aware of those complaining about gas mileage.. these are folks that have ZERO clue about how to drive a hybrid. They’re driving this car like a regular gas engine car and expecting hybrid MPG. This is a hybrid automobile and has to be driven as such in order to get great MPG (coasting and/or using paddle shifters on the steering wheel to maximize regenerative braking, sensible acceleration, etc..)… 60+ for me routinely and I have the Touring trim which has bigger wheels and is supposed to get lower MPG than the EX and LX models. 2 year, 25,000 mile UPDATE: I love this car more and more every day! Still getting 60-65 MPG during the warm months.. I bought a spare tire kit, well worth it. Zero issues to report… One of the best cars I’ve ever owned.

Great Hybrid Electric Vehicle

Just purchased my 2022 Honda Insight yesterday and I'm already looking for reasons to go places and test out all the safety and tech features! All three modes (EV, Sport, Eco) are super quiet which I really like. Traffic sign recognition also comes standard with this vehicle. Not a big difference between the 2021 and 2022. I did notice an extra Hybrid logo on the driver side. It was a tough decision between this and the 2021 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid, but ultimately the Insight has the highest safety ratings. Its a Top Safety Pick Plus by IIHS and has 5 stars across the board by NHTSA. I also like the quality of the interior design better as well. Overall this is a great vehicle and I'm really happy with my purchase!

I was very surprised that my car is EXCEEDING the EPA's MPG estimates. Averaging mid to high 50's with my average commute. Drove over the mountains and back during a holiday weekend and came back with 53MPG. I confirmed that the trip computer was correct during my latest refill.

It is a nice car and has nice features but the fuel efficiency is lackluster. I am currently averaging 42 mpg, the mpg is good for other cars and whatnot but it is not meeting the EPA fuel efficiency projection. It sits very low to the ground and can cause issues if you have a bad back or knees. The car is nice but if these comments were addressed it would make me more willing to recommend then car to others.

Good mileage, Feels very sturdy while driving, better technology for day to operation like ACC/LKAS, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot etc., But only area they need improvements is to add lumbar support and passenger seat height adjustments along with some options like parking sensors installed available as part of purchase.

Was not looking for however I was convinced from the Accord. And HAPPY. I love seeing MPG. I don't think I will ever get a speeding ticket now being aware. Many times on the highway I'm getting 62-71. Driving locally 49-52 sometimes in the 60 +. Sometimes I get out of the car and don't know it's still running. I'm 6.2 and 240. The other review was saying he was 6.2 maybe he is 300 lb. The back seat is not a Cadillac however I do have people in the back with no issue.Im not sure on a couple hundred mile trip..When backing out of driveway a alarm. There is a sound when idling in drive way however Its soothing most likely because of battery I like it though. There is one guy above on a test drive which seems he has driven for a month vs a test drive.Im guessing its a false review .Or a angry person .Im trying to get my daughter to buy one.

Really good gas mileage at almost 50mpg. I got the EX and it's a really nice car. Very spacious in the back, nice controls and displays in the front, and gorgeous to look at over all. It can handle hills just fine and other terrains, it's a very smooth ride! I'm quite happy and plan to keep this for a very long time.

ROOMY????

Jack Aubrey, 08/19/2021
2022 Honda Insight EX 4dr Sedan (1.5L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
27 of 49 people found this review helpful

My wife and I test drove an Insight just last week. Roomy is probably the last adjective I'd use to describe the front seats at least. I'm six- two and there just is not enough leg room for me, seat all the way back and the height as far as it will go. As for my wife the seat does not rise high enough, she's five-three, and she would need a pillow to see comfortably. The front passenger seat has no height adjustment is barely high enough for me and my wife felt like a toddler in that seat. I just don't know what ergonomic basis the design team used to calculate room up front. The CVT is fairly quiet, the car drove well, had good pickup. The paddle shifters are another story. Their purpose is to adjust the strength of regenerative braking. They do what they are supposed to do but you need to fiddle with them constantly since when you set a regen level the system automatically reverts back to factory default(weakest regen) whenever you touch either pedal, gas or brake. Let's say you were coming down a long hill and using the paddles you set the appropriate level of regen so you slow yourself down and maximize charging of the battery, but if during your descent you needed to touch the brake or throttle for a traffic situation then you need to reset the paddles again. It's an unnecessary distraction. I would much rather have it like Tesla's where the setting stays put no matter until you decide otherwise.

This is a great vehicle all around. Having owned two newer BMW 3-Series over the past 6 years (320 xDrive and 330 xDrive) plus a 2022 Toyota Corolla LE, I would say the Insight Touring definitely leans more toward the Bimmers but with far superior fuel economy. Handling is firm and stable and the ride quality is excellent. Acceleration is more than adequate for a hybrid though not nearly as exhilarating as a 3-series. Fit and finish are very, very good and interior materials are well above par. While some get annoyed by the low speed alien spacecraft hum I think it’s still pretty cool. Headroom is only adequate. At 6’1” I can fit okay but anyone over 6’2” might be touching the headliner front or rear. Fuel economy has been great so far - initially a bit below advertised (was getting right around 43-45 mpg) but since that 1,000 mile break-in I’ve been achieving 50-53 mpg per fill up with an equal mix of city/freeway driving. Overall this is a winner from Honda that seems to be overlooked by a lot of folks for some reason. I had to wait a couple of months before taking possession due to the inventory shortage, but it was more than worth the wait.

Purchased exactly 1 year ago and have 13,000 miles. I love this car, the ride is comfortable. The tech and adaptive cruise control made the long trip from Ohio to Clearwater Florida & back amazingly easy. Spring-fall MPG 52-64. Winter in Ohio/WV it’s running 43.5-49. I love the hybrid sound outside the car when driving and backing up. The different driving modes make it enjoyable and adaptable to many different driving styles. I recommend using sport mode when driving through WV mountains. In previous reviews people have talked about the engine noise when getting on the gas pedal. This would be the only thing I can think of that would be considered a minor annoyance if you can even call it that. I have no regrets from jumping from 2016 Prius. Would make the same purchase again. In my opinion the Touring upgrades are worth it.

Fit, form and function! Complete package (touring model) includes highest quality for the money available. Too bad they’re so hard to find (radiant red, ivory leather).

After having driven SUV's for the last ten years I am very impressed with this relatively small sedan. It handles well, has a roomy interior, large trunk space and offers quite a bit of luxury for such a small car. I would have appreciated power seat controls and heated seats but gladly give that up for the terrific gas mileage.

The car tries to pull you out of the lane when there's a curve. This is with switches OFF. If they're on, it's worse. Not a fan of this vehicle. Maybe it's just this one but not my 'go to' car.

There is a convenient ‘brake hold’ system, however, if you take off your seatbelt it switches to parking break, and requires you to release it in order to drive again, even if u have already put the seatbelt back on.

I purchased a 2022 Honda insight EX, this was honestly the best second vehicle I have ever owned. To start off the mpg is off the chart. During the summer I have averaged 62 mpg and during the winter I averaged anywhere from 42 – 49 mpg. Unfortunately, my car had a factory defect leak so my BCM was damaged and Honda was able to fix my BCM and replace my area that was causing leaks. Overall the vehicle is amazing and I would not change it for nothing.

Only a week and I'm in Love with this Car!

This Insight EX is the model my husband and I both agreed on. And it is, so far (after all it's only been a scant week), working just as hoped. The mileage is wonderful, the fit & finish inside is lovely and it has a massive trunk. Plus it's pretty, very pretty! Cosmic Blue Metallic with Ivory interior. Don't let Ivory scare you either, as it's more of an icy soft gray - should hide dirt & dust, but you're not going to let it get dirty!
