Comfortable car. Honda should give a 1/2 day class on all the electronics. Still not up on all it can do.

Another update...coming up on 83,000 miles. I have had no problems with this car. It has had factory recommended maintenance, and no repairs. I have a back road commute (40 miles each way) and get mid to high 30's mpg in the Summer and low to mid 30's in the Winter. A couple of times I have had trips (not full tanks) that hit 40 mpg. I'm sure if you do more urban driving your mileage will differ. The only niggle I have, and it is very small, is that a cream colored fabric was not a good choice for the arm rests. Drivability is superb and comfort is above what one would expect from a vehicle this size. In addition to my daily commute, I have taken the car to Montana. It is very comfortable cruising at 85 mph. I would also like to put in a plug for my dealer, Capital City Honda in Olympia, Washington. These folks are the best, both sales and service. My family has now purchased six Hondas from them. I have just shy of 30,000 miles on my CR-V now. It is a great vehicle. No mechanical issues. The car gets great gas mileage. We had a snow event here in February. Our town got about 16". Even on the unplowed side streets the CR-V motored through. And that is with the OEM tires.

First Impressions - Very Happy with Purchase.

Purchased CR-V on these factors: Reliability, Comfort, Safety, Fuel Economy, Performance. Reliability - Owned 1 Chrysler mini van and 5 GM brand vehicles. Two died before 100k, 2 had blown head gaskets, another replaced cam shaft at 12,000 miles and all had lots of major repairs. Owned 2007 Civic EX. While involved with 7 recalls including two for that major air bag deal, dealer was great with replacement including rental car and dashboard put together with no squeeks or rattles. Replaced starter and Freon for air conditioning. Normal wear and tear replacement for brakes, tires, etc. Civic, along with a Toyota Celica, were the best two cars owned in my life time. Daughter-in-law owns 2017 CR-V Ex for little over a year with no issues. Expect the same great reliability with the CR-V. Performance - Very good pickup with a comfortable ride to the point I have to check speed to make sure I don't exceed speed limits as it is easy to do. Handles nicely at 70mph. Corners very well and nice smooth braking. Comfort -12 way power seat fits both my wife 4'11'' and myself 5'11' very well. Driving view is good for both. Very easy for me to get in and out versus my Civic. Wife has to slide out so considering installing running boards. She has no problem getting in. Passenger seat comfortable. Back seats not used but felt fine on test drive. Love dashboard and happy with entertainment system. Safety - 5 star safety rating very important to us. Happy with the electronic safety features but most of them get disabled in bad weather or if wiper blades running. Enjoy the auto lights and auto high beam. Love the backup warning system with the rear view camera. With walk away locking, I basically walk to and open door, start engine, drive, reach destination, leave vehicle. Do nothing with keys or switches. Fuel Economy is only 25.5 mpg but the car is brand new. Getting the same mileage for urban driving as my 2007 Civic. Nice offset is I can park this suv in the same spots as my Civic. Out of the smaller suvs that I looked at, this is still the best mpg. Overall I am very happy with my purchase. The CR-V will be used for road trips across the US and should be great for it.

1st impressions of 2018 Honda CR-V

I scheduled an appointment to complete the paperwork and take delivery of the car. After waiting for 5 hours I was given a 2017 Pilot as a free loaner and told to go home and return the next morning for my car. When I slid into the seat, it felt goooood! About the only adjustment I had to make was to comfortably reach the pedals. The wife was similarly comfortable in the passenger seat. It was also a pleasure to drive, accelerating easily and shifting smoothly. The next morning I picked up my new car and headed home. I spent a good part of the time trying to find a comfortable position with the seat. It is smaller with a short cushion and large bolsters top and bottom. The front of the seat cushion was digging into my leg, so I tried to adjust it lower. The seat accomplishes that by raising the back which also moves you closer to the steering wheel. Now from that position it can't slide back. So my hair is brushing the headliner, thanks to the moon roof that is standard, and I'm closer to the wheel than I like to be without an extreme recline. I suppose I'll get used to it, but it is very disappointing to find such a poor seat in Honda's most popular car. It will never be a "oh, that feels good" experience. Even the steering wheel is uncomfortable being a hard plastic. Probably the Pilot's was wrapped in leather or cushioned. The center console in the Pilot was excellent. It is a low, flat, surface providing a nice open feeling in the cabin as well as the perfect place to plop a pocketbook. The armrests are on the seat and can be left up out of the way or lowerd down to a perfect position. The CR-V has a center console that is split level, leaving not much room for anything. Also there are no slots or small drawers anywhere in the dash for small items. Everything must be thrown into the center console. When accelerating, the CR -V engine has an initial hesitation and a strained growl. The Pilot responds quickly and easily with no strain. Of course the Pilot is larger and more expensive, but it might be worth the extra investment.

Nice ride in a CRV-EX AWD

Update: I now have owned my CRV for 6 months. Still loving the vehicle but here are things for improvement: 1. Engine way too sluggish and unresponsive to throttle. 2. Adaptive cruise faults for no reason 3. Phone integration and use of apps is problematic and not user friendly. 4. Steering could be more sporty and responsive in turns and windy roads. I would buy this vehicle again but needs improvement. ——-///———///————////——////—— The 2018 CRV is much improved and replaces my previous Ford Escape which was a great vehicle. I like the CRV's comfortable interior and seats which seem more upscale than any previous Honda. The turbo charged inline 4 is mostly adequate in traffic but acceleration could be better. Gas mileage is really good and averaging 31 MPG. There are many safety features included in base vehicle including adaptive cruise, braking and rear camera. However, there are NO BACKUP SENSORS in the rear bumper which is frankly unforgivable in 2018!!! WHY HONDA, WHY!! It is an option on ALL CRV trim levels but not advertised and obviously a cost cutting measure by Honda. Edmunds.com doesn't list it as an option on "build and price". My 6 year old Ford Fusion has rear backup sensors so Honda is light years behind in this REQUIRED safety feature that should be on ALL VEHICLES. Sorry but this is inexcusable and Honda dealers do not tell you this. The rear window is so small you cannot see when backing up and the camera is not accurate in distance to obstructions (or children) when backing up. I would ding Honda 2 stars for safety for this. Otherwise, an excellent vehicle that should be great for road trips or commuting around town.
