Stay away from honda1.5 turbo , 11/15/2019
2017 Honda CR-V EX-L 4dr SUV w/Navigation (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)

After reading about others with the 1.5 turbo, Car had 13,000 miles. I checked my oil. at 2500 miles after the previous oil change, mine was 65% depleted. at 3500miles it was 85% depleted, and I was noticing gas fumes in the car and in my garage. Dealer said this was normal for the car, especially if I took short trips, and engine didn't warm up properly. First of all, I bought a new car. Second - I rarely take short trips. Third I never had a similar problem with any other kid, even when I was a kid when I drive a few blocks to school every day. Third this is a known problem, yet even Honda Cus Svc refuses to reveal any problem anywhere it if you live in warm states ( AZ). Next I called dealers in northern states where they are fixing these cars. Service managers have told me there is a fix, but only if check engine comes on. So dealers tell the truth, but honda employees at corporate level are instructed to lie. In China with a similar engine. all 1.5 engines are subject to recall. Stay away from all honda EFI engines , not just the 1.5. better yet, don't trust honda

RUN.....

Honda used to be quite a dependable car brand. My family had 2 civics back when i was young and they were great reliable cars. They were also a very good value. I bought an odyssey in 2011 and put 125k on it with very few problems and an enjoyable ownership experience but for one issue, The awesome smooth and highly enjoyable to drive V6 they use (Best in the industry for sure) had horrible oil burning issues due to the ECO modes that shut cylinders on and off intermittently. The car burnt oil wildly (quart every 1,000 miles) and it took up to six months and after clocking 80k on the van before they would finally address the issue. The dealers ALWAYS play stupid with these known (posted all over the internet) problems because they don't make much fixing Honda factory problems. (pre-negotiated rates with Honda for recall and factory responsible work) I got rid of the van and bought a pilot (2015) same as the Odyssey, love the car and engine except now for the same issue, as well as other "vibration" (bad torque converter I believe) issues that the Dealer once again is playing dumb with. Oh then there's the 2017 I just bought for my daughter (not sure why i just did that) My brother has a 2011 CRV that I've driven and liked quite a bit so i bought the newer model (2017) sight unseen and without driving. OK folks, if you're a little older like me and have been driving around in automatic transmissions most of your life and you've actually got a pulse, CVT transmissions SUCK. It's like driving my late fathers first gen Chevy Equinox. Looked real sharp (for Chevy at the time) on the inside and outside but then when you drive it, it feels and sounds like a go-cart. Anything under 30 mph is horrible, you'd better plan in advance if you need to accelerate quickly because the "Rubber Band" effect with this CVT transmission is real and alarming. Sure once you get going, it starts to move quickly but it's straining to do it and there is very little confident tactile feedback something Honda was very good with on their older vehicles. heavy steering and if you take turns a little too quickly the tires nearly roll. For the money there are better options folks. Test drive before you buy one I myself am done with Honda and i'll likely just dump the CRV as I hate driving it. With all the brain power over there its unbelievable that these never vehicles sell as they do.. I used to own European vehicles, Loved driving them but just got so annoyed with servicing them ($$$). Seeing how these days even the Honda dealerships are doing everything they can to up-charge service visits, its the same deal. Same creepy experience every time i go in. Going forward i'll just pay up and at least enjoy driving again. A friend of mine just bought a Mazda CX-5. It's no comparison to the CRV, check it out (drive it) I was floored in comparison. I'm going in that direction try before you buy and go on line and do your research. Best

Road Noise

Tim Strom, 07/12/2018

This is my 3rd CRV and though the road noise problems with the others (2002, 2009) the 2017 is better in that aspect. My car came with M/S tires and they are noisy on rough surfaces - worn concrete blacktop that has been torn up by studded tires. I do think that a lot of it could be taken care of with a less aggressive tire tread. I am about 1/2 way through a 3 year lease and the car has only about 5500 miles on it so will not invest money in different tires until I make a decision to buy the car at the end of the lease. Other than that, I truly think that it is the best car that I have ever owned!

I am bias, love Honda, 6 of them so far and 2nd CRV, they are reliable, easy to maintenance, best of all the handling is of one the best for "low" end vehicle. Tested drive Hyundai Tucson, Santa fe, Nissan Rogue, Mazda CX5 (bad), and Subaru Outback which better handling a bit but slower acceleration. I like how Honda hugs the curve at high speed, responsive. Test drive like this to see how the vehicle can help avoiding accident, as expected, turning radius is small. The vehicle can steer itself through gentle curve at highway speed, even at late dawn. 30MPG @ 80 MPH, 28MPG @ mix city/hwy. Capless gas tank is cool, hope it is ok for a long time. 25700 CRV EX AWD + 800 dealer fee (makeup profit fee) 100 doc fee + state mandatory fee

Please just shop around at different dealers. Might be able to work out a better price (significant) for same car if you are willing to travel a little for it.

I tested this car as was interested in the 2017 revamp. The 190hp is weak and noisy. Sitting in the back seat it's noisy there as well. I don't like the shifter being so far up and forward as it's awkward and can block controls when in park. Honestly I wish they would bring back V6 engine as most of the fours are so noisy and lack sufficient power. Overall found the car like an appliance rather then something fun or interesting to drive.

Purchased a 2017 CR-V EX-L AWD. My previous car was a 2008 same model. While I loved the 2008, no mechanical problems at all, this 2017 is amazing. The noise level is gone, seats are super comfortable and the safety features are incredible. I do miss my hard shelf in the trunk area and the floor space between the front seats. The only fault on the car is the info screen. It's clunky and takes several steps to get to the right screen. Dear HONDA, GOOGLE maps would make this car perfect! In the meantime, I have to use my phone for the best navigation. The Honda and apple maps do not compare to google maps! Update: 13 months later, I still love my CR-V. The only issue I have is the info screen needs help. My XM radio constantly displays "not available" messages and it's still difficult to navigate through the system. LOVE the gas mileage.

This is my first Honda and I thought I would love it. But the front drivers seat is so uncomfortable that it is a torture to drive it more than 20 miles. My right hip and lower back hurt so bad it takes all the fun out driving. Everything else in the car is great. I love all the safety features but I might have to take a financial loss and try a different car.
