Long Term Report
Kids are teenagers? Don't need a "sensible car"? Don't need to spend mass bucks on BMW but love to drive - drive fun? I needed a commute car and a fun sporty car. This is it. This car has been fantastic. The VTEC, shifter, limited slip differential, sport suspension, interior and exterior just meld together in a great "bang for the buck" package. All this with Honda quality and race bred experience clearly projected into the car. I have fun every day and totally agree with some of the other reviews. You get in this car and it wants to go fast - it has an aggressive personality for sure! In a bind or want a rush? Drop down a gear kick in Mr. VTEC the sound and pull is great.
Finishing break-in, but good so far
I bought my new Civic Si last weekend. I got 32.5 mpg for the first half tank driving mostly highway miles to VA from NC (248.9 miles). I have to say the car is nice for the price, and loaded. The only really bad design was the hand brake location, the prem gas is also not so good. Seems to be a good little sporty car. I look forward to reporting later after break in what my avg MPG is with using the shift light, or in some hard driving. Not liking the delay in drive by wire 0.9 sec delay in rpm fall. Tire noise is not bad at all. I have Mich. tires (summer/ all season?).
Si Sedan - Fun, but...
Love the overall value of this car - the performance and "fun" you get for the money has no compare on the market. However, I think Honda skimped a bit on interior material choices. I've sought and destroyed a few annoying rattles - still have some rattles I haven't been able to fix yet. You really have to get used to some quirks in the drivetrain caused by the Drive By Wire (DBW) tuning - delay in responsiveness when you push on the gas and the car holds onto the revs (rev-hang issue). This tuning is all done to meet the CAFE standards and earn the Low Emissions Vehicle tag - ALL GOOD, but detract from the overall potential of this very fun vehicle.
I like very much
My last car was a 98 sunfire gt; everything about the si is better. It's one of the most powerful naturally aspirated 4cyl in the world and it still gets me about 28 mpg. She corners on rails. Interior is ergonomic and attractive as well. I'll never buy another 5spd (6 is the only way to go). I have loved driving it, but haven't been too lucky. Other than the third gear issue, it needs an alignment and has a nasty skip when cold. Also, i can't get xm radio to work (followed the directions in the manual and also got help from an xm rep). Al in all I definitely recommend this to anyone who doesn't need space for family.
Incredible Car
What a great car. One of the best cars I have ever driven. For under $21,000 you cannot beat the standard features. I researched for months what car to get and nothing came close to this in value. Fun car to drive. Good mileage, only down side is premium gas. For the performance that you get it is worth every penny. Interior is also great. Seats are extremely comfortable. All competitors don't even come close to interior quality. Noticed when researching this car that some complained about the smoothness when shifting. Now that I have bought it I do notice a very slight grind when engine cold. However, I have been told by many people it is as easy as changing to better tranny fluid and prob gone
