Compared to the CRV...
I drive a CRV at work all day in all kinds of Phoenix metro traffic. It is OK but my 2020 Terrain has it beat overall in my opinion. The 2.0 turbo is zippy, and quiet. I drove a 2020 1.5L turbo up to Flagstaff and I would recommend the bigger engine, glad I bought it. The CRV and its CVT transmission is loud and annoying on the freeway. Hard to keep a consistent speed on the freeway which drives me nuts. I notice the Terrain has a quieter cabin because I can hear people talk on the phone. I am 6’9 and would always like more legroom but the console of the CRV digs into my right leg, in the Terrain it does not. I am still getting used to no shifter but the extra room is nice. To me the only thing the CRV wins in the comparison is it gets really good gas mileage & it has never been in the shop for a repair in 88,000 miles (1 1/2 years). I hope the Terrain is comparable in that area! Not sure I agree with all the CRV hype and the experts ragging on the Terrain. I like the look of the Terrain and 18/19/20’s look WAY better than its boxy predecessor.

Wha.... what?
As a current Terrain owner (AWD SLT 2.0), I am perplexed as to what vehicle Edmunds actually drove? My Terrain is a perfect balance of sport and luxury along with making terrific gas mileage as a daily driver. I guess the 1.5 turned them off to the point that they lowered all of the other categories to reduce the score. Seems ridiculous to get bent out of shape over an engine designed for fuel economy and not drag racing. But if that's not your desire, upgrade to the 2.0 and you won't be disappointed.

One of the nicer choices in this size range SUV
Literally I don't know what Edmunds reviewed -- I recently checked out all the small-mid SUV's at the LA auto show and was surprised to find the Terrain to my liking. My brother has a CX-5 which is very nice, good materials and it drives quiet and handles well, but just feels cramped up front for me (6ft, 240lb guy). It feels roomier than most competitors including CX-5, has decent materials throughout, and the option for a very powerful 2.0L Turbo. I then test drove one and it drives really nice, very quiet ride, awesome acceleration, smooth shifting 9-speed. Nice storage in back and a folding front passenger seat to carry 8ft long items -- nothing else I've found has this! Edmunds must be paid by Honda or something. I wouldn't touch their models with CVT. Needless to say, I'm 90% sold this will be my next vehicle. 2024 Update The vehicle has been a winner for me for the last 4 years and I'm happy I pulled the trigger in 2020 as the powerful 2.0L turbo engine is sadly no longer a choice. Only issue I've had was the auto engine STOP has stopped working but since nobody really likes this "feature" anyway I haven't bothered to have the dealer diagnose. I understand it is possible it can stop working when the battery is less than 100% since it is sensitive to that and that could be a possibility.

Likes and dislikes
What we like: We loved the Terrain SLT we purchased a few years ago, so in the early fall, with $8,000 in incentives, we traded it in for a 2020 model. This is a very SMART car. Lots of new features and technology to learn. We like that it allows data from the cell phones to download to the car. Nice to set up your Google Maps or Waze, go out to the car and view it on the display screen. The folding front seat is a great option. Love the huge sun roof and its push-button shade. Very quiet ride. Good acceleration. Well designed dashboard/interior lighting. We like the air-conditioning/heat vents for the back seats. The heated steering wheel gets so warm, so fast, that you must quickly turn it off. All-in-all we are very happy with our Terrain. Things we're not crazy about: Fuel. Both the salesmen and service manager said if we purchased the 1.5 Turbo engine, we could avoid expense premium gas and use mid-grade instead. But the owner's manual recommends premium gas. It says the use of anything other than premium voids the warranty. So, we bought the car under a gas-savings assumption, but now fear the dealership may not have been truthful. Can anyone confirm that this engine can safely use mid-grade fuel? Also, living in Michigan, we purchased AWD, but I am disappointed with it. The first time we drove the car in heavy snow, it became stuck. And with its wheel design, snow became packed into the rim and spokes. When we drove the car the next day, it shook violently, with the wheels out of balance by the packed ice/snow. We now keep a snow shovel in the car and use our Buick AWD in the heavier snow. Another item, I don't like where the fog lamp switch is located. It's out of site, below the steering wheel, under the fold of the dash, where it sits among other push button controls. It is hard to locate the switch while driving -- frankly, you can't turn the fog lamps on without taking your eyes off the road. So, at least until you learn the brail of it, you must operate the lamps only when the vehicle is stopped.

GMC Terrain for the win
I purchased the GMC Terrain SLE FWD and my wife loves it. It drives well, handles well, and is overall a nicer vehicle than the similar Chevy Equinox. With all the incentives that GMC had, we got it at the same price as a less equipped, base Equinox, but the GMC has much more features and overall nicer interior. The 1.5L engine is plenty for us as we are not aggressive drivers. My only sight dislike so far is the push or pull buttons for Park, Drive, Reverse. Not used to those just yet. Overall highly recommended.

Excellent value
Purchased Terrain AWD Denali MSRP of $43,780 for $30,475 after rebates and GM rewards. It has heated/cooled seats, adaptive cruise, heated rear seats, rear vision camera, lane change alert etc. Drives great and gets very good mileage.

Solid, luxurious SUV
The sticker price drops appreciably with the ever-present incentives. Comfortable ride, nice features, and reasonable engine performance from the base engine (remember, it's a SUV, not a sports car) make this a worthwhile purchase. The Honda is lackluster, and every Toyota I've owned had numerous electrical gremlins as soon as the warranty expired. The Terrain SLT has the features I wanted, and drives well.

New 2020 Terrain
I love it. Perfect for us taller girls and very affordable. I got like 5 additional packages but the elevation package is a must for this truck. I also got the black out package so everything down to the GMC logo is black. My truck is everything and it’s such a smooth ride. $22 on half a tank (89) and $45 on E (89) I love the lil safety feature when someone is too close to ur car... it’s like a lil vibration under ur bottom to let u know something is near and to look

Whats going to happen next?
I bought a brand new 2020 terrain this year. I live in central Alaska where roads and temperatures are tough. Ice and snow are on the roads from October-April. I will not take my terrain out of AWD in the winter here because it just wants to slip and slide everywhere more so than most vehicles I have driven. It handles okay in winter but I plan on putting winter tires on instead of riding all seasons. The terrain doesnt have much of a get up and go but cruises at a steady and comfort. I have the slt model and it does not have heated seats/ steering wheel, roof bars, touch-less rear cargo, crash control. But it does have lane assist, great gas mileage and cheap to fill up even less than most sedans, its comfortable, roomy, and over all the SUVs I drove this one was my favorite. I am usually the only one who drives it but if I do have 2 tall people in it at once they are both very cramped. I do love how there are levers in the back where the back seats fold down to put longer items. What I am really here to say though is that my terrain has only 8500 miles on it, oil and service done at 5000 miles and my check engine light came on during a long road trip out in the freezing tundra of Alaska. I was not sure I would make it back home. I got an error message “Reduce engine power” then the terrain would not go from 0-60 without taking its time. I made it home and then to the dealership where they said it was the shutters in front of the inner cooler system. My suv had been in the dealership for over a week now, riding rough and they are trying to figure out what to do next since they had to tow it back into their shop. And in the meantime they lent me another suv that broke down on me and I am on rental car number two. The dealership has been great but I am not happy my new vehicle that I have only had for 6 months is in the shop. What will happen next?
Kudos to gmc
This is my second terrain. Last one was a 2013. Just made a road trip and averaged almost 40 mpg at 60 mph with the 1.5. I absolutely luv this vehicle. My wifes 2011 bmw now up for sale and she getting a Terrain.

Got it all
I had a 2013 Terrain and loved it but the 2020 has everything the 2013 lacked. Back seats that fold flat (with a push of a button); ac vents in the back seat; front and back cameras and sensors all around the car now. This new Terrain Denali has so much to offer for safety and comfort. We never had any problems mechanically or with accessory options on the 2013 so I'm hoping this 2020 will give us the same reliability. Very happy we purchased another Terrain!

Amazing job GMC
I love my new 2020 GMC Terrain SLT with the chrome package. Black in Black. The car looks sexy , has super comfortable interior with all the bells and whistles, kids love it in the backseat, the 1.5t does the job unless you are speed racer it drives amazing , I am so happy with it thank you Williamson Cadillac GMC
A better choice
We looked at all makes similar to the terrain. Didn't want leather seats, wanted easy to get in and out, getting in and out the seats. Wanted panorama roof that opened up, needed lots of leg room on second row seats. Wanted an engine that was zippy with a turbo, and good gas mileage. We traded our Mercedes R350 for the Terrain. The Terrain is a lot more zippy and not as big as the Mercedes. The Terrain had the safety features we were looking for including a towing package. We were pleasantly surprised at the fuel mileage with the 2 litre engine. The look, style is attractive, performance is really good, nice, options the price is reasonable. We got the under coating for the winter, now it is wait and see if can get 20 years out of it. We try to get 15 to 20 years out our vehicles. We got 15 years out of the Mercedes, decided to trade it off before the price of gas shot up. Smart move. All are kids are grow up and gone so the Terrain is a nice size for us. We have had the Terrain for almost a year, so gone through summer and winter. In the winter we have it all wheel drive and the rest of time in front wheel drive, the gas mileage is really great in front wheel drive. The milage in four wheel we lose about 100 k kilometers per tank of gas, still pretty good.

Not a tough vehicle
This suv is not meant for any sort of off roading despite its appearance. The underside is unprotected including the plastic gas tank. We were on a road that my Honda civic has traveled and one scape broke a bearing holding the drive shift, which in turn made the all wheel drive unusable. Had a minor slide off into a snow bank earlier and had $5k in damage to grill, bumper, fog lights. For the price, this vehicle is very fragile. What it lacks in structural integrity it does not make up in fuel economy, so as a highway traveler it is not superior. It is comfortable, quick, and fun to drive, but I am very underwhelmed after 27k miles.

Snow driving is not good
This is my 2nd Terrain. My first one drove great in the snow. I never got stuck anywhere. This Terrain does not do well at all in the snow. It leaves me stuck trying to get up thr slightest hill. I am not sure what done that made it different. They are both FWD. But overall, I love the Terrains. I love the size, the comfort, and how it drives in other weather except snow. I am thinking I will need to get an AWD going forward. Thank you!
Shifty Shifter
Test drove a SLT today, first vehicle with push button transmission shifter. Hate it. Don't like looking down to hunt for the buttons and feel of no vehicle control. Other than that loved it. They should have offering for non-push button shifter. Lost a sale based on that. Also, the seats were narrow and cramping.
First SUV
Great vehicle has all the features I wanted drives great, the 2.0 engine is awesome, mileage is great rally pleased with my GMC terrain, and you can put 4 golf bags in the back just take driver out and lay separate

Cruising in my Terrain
This car has a nice ride to it and has all the feature I wanted and more. I am having issues with the phone to make calls out. It says the SD card is removed. the dealership is going to take a look at it. Other then that its a great car.
2020 GMC Terrain
Purchased a 2020 GMC Terrain from Curry GMC BUICK CADILLAC was very impressed with salesman JT. He sold me the GMC Terrain that was just as he described and explained all features in detail. The Terrain is very comfortable easy to drive with all the equipment you would expect from a vehicle costing much more. And on top of driving well I was getting an overall gas mileage of 32.6 and my best was 38.2 very pleased with my purchase of the 2020 GMC Terrain SLT
Good Buy
This vehicle was on the showroom floor. It contained most of the accessories wanted. One of the accessories not installed, backseat VDR, was given to us free. We paid the installation cost. Overall, it is the vehicle we wanted, style, make, model, etc. at the Edmunds projected price.

Complete trash!
I would give this a negative 182993 review if I could. Bought a 2020 Terrian brand new. Had 12 miles on it at purchase. Now it has 7k miles and has been in the shop 5 times. The rear window wiper stopped working at 140 miles. When we hit 55mph it will shift hard and shake the steering wheel. Gm told us it was safe to drive while they investigate the issue that still hasn't been taken care of. The sunroof won't close properly. It will close then the reopen and get stuck. I will never spend another time on trash GM products. The only issue that has been taken care of was the rear wiper witch they didn't even cover through warranty.

Sporty Terrain SLT
Have owned only a few days. Technology is great, but needs time to set up and get acquainted, my personal opinion is there is more technology than needed. Acceleration very good, braking is quick and comfortable. Vehicle handles smoothly and provides a comfortable ride. Push button operational controls are a bit awkward and not ergonomically designed for people with larger hands.

Nice but underpowered
This is a modern, well equipped SUV. The handling is very good, however, the ride is a bit stiff. The gas mileage is more like 25 on the highway. The lack of torque is evident when trying to pass any vehicle on the highway. The engine revs and struggles. The power is so terrible that I found myself driving in the slow lane. The transmission shifters are buttons placed undeneath the climate control. The shifting is terrible, you have to hunt for buttons and parking this thing is awful. Very dissapointing. Stay away.
Great overall vehicle
If you are wanting a quiet ride and smooth ride with a lot of standard features. This is the car for you. Pro's - Able to get the pano sunroof in the SLE package as well as the larger infotainment center. Amazing looks exterior and interior. Smooth and quiet ride. Cons Not gonna lie it gets pretty horrendous gas mileage on the 1.5L. Usually after a full tank. Mpg for the trip on a full to empty tank is about 16-19mpg *yes i do have a bit of stop and go traffic* The option not to turn off the autostop feature on the engine when the vehicle is at a stop. Overall this is my favorite car that I have owned. And the standard saftey features are a nice plus

Passing up all the gas pumps
I Love the room, for a small suv it gives you plenty of space and its smooth riding great price.
Worst thing I ever bought
23,000 miles and tires are bald. Can't drive it over 50 without the car slipping with new tires. The screen has went out on me twice and it seems to not shift well when first taking off. I'm mostly disappointed in the way it handles on wet, icy and snow covered roads. The rear end sliding and it sways all over the road. If the wind is blowing it is awful. sucks

Design flaw
After buying, I put the back windows down for some fresh air and what happened is what is called helicopter effect. It was so noisy my ear drums hurt. And the doors and vehicle shook so bad I thought the doors were going to come off. This happens only at high speeds on the highway. would I buy this vehicle again-----absolutely not.
