2025 Genesis GV70 Consumer Reviews

Great idea, bad execution
Car is fun to drive and has all the bells and whistles you would want. However, it has been at the dealership for months as the AC just doesn't work. Went set to low, cold air comes out. If I turn it to 63 degrees, the air blows out super hot. First time at dealership they said my freon was out and I had to pay, which doesn't make sense since it blows cold air on "Lo" setting so it had freon. After multiple trips to dealership, the service desk experienced the issue first hand. After months in service, the mechanics said they couldn't duplicate which is absurd since it happens every time. Time to move on to something else unfortunately.

Squealer for your morning commute
July 19, 2025 Still unresolved – brake issue dismissed despite clear evidence I originally brought my brand new Genesis GV70 in on June 9, 2025 due to a persistent and loud metal-on-metal noise when reversing down my driveway. Despite capturing clear video evidence and even having a service technician pick up my vehicle and hear it in person, I was told again on July 10 that this noise is “normal.” They picked up the car and replaced the rear pads, kept the car 3 days, returned the car, claimed they fixed it and per the video attached, brakes still making noise. What makes this worse is that the loaner GV70 I was given (same model) does NOT make this sound. I’ve submitted multiple complaints, videos, and recordings — and yet the issue continues to be dismissed. After service, the sound is still present. At this point, I’ve lost confidence in both the vehicle’s build quality and the service department’s ability to resolve what is clearly a non-standard issue. I hope Genesis takes ownership at a corporate level before this becomes a safety issue for others. June 9, 2025 – I brought the car to the dealership service department, reporting the metal-on-metal braking sound. Despite the fact that the sound occurs every time I reverse down my driveway, I was told that the dealership could not replicate the issue and was told the noise was “normal.” July 8, 2025 – After escalating my concern to Genesis Customer Service, an arrangement was made for a service technician to pick up my vehicle for further investigation. I captured a video of the technician reversing the car from my driveway, clearly demonstrating the noise. July 10, 2025 – I was contacted again and told that no issues were found, and the braking noise was again dismissed as “normal.” However, I have since received a loaner Genesis GV70 (white in color), which does not exhibit the same noise when backing down the same driveway, proving that the issue is not characteristic of all GV70s.

Ok, but far from excellent
I have owned 3 Genesis so far. The G90 being a great vehicle, except for the fact that they weren't thinking when they built the infotainment system around 3G. Now that 3G is gone, I cannot get Connected Service for this 2018. My next two Genesis are the GV70. I swear they are built by a different company, since they do not resemble the quality of the G90. Still a very good looking vehicle, but lots of annoying quirks and problems. First is the Connected Service that didn't work properly in either 2023 or 2025. No matter what setting I put for the driver's seat, when I did a remote start from the app, it would always be on level 3 cool. You can imagine what that feels like on a single digit day when you are expecting a warm seat. The passenger's seat and every other feature worked fine. Genesis Customer Care was never able to resolve that issue. After 2 years I got rid of the vehicle. Now it is someone else's problem. However, I now have a 2025 GV70 EV with a whole new set of issues. They took away the ability to turn on heated seats, which was more important than heating the cabin. They still show the ability to turn on the heated steering wheel, but that never works remotely. The remote start from the app always fails on the first try. The second try is successful. But when I get to the vehicle, I must push the start button, then turn it off, open the door, close the door and push the start button again to get the radio or warning chimes to work. Otherwise, I am driving down the road with no sounds, including backup warnings, click of the turn signal, etc. I've had this vehicle for two months now and numerous calls back and forth with Genesis Customer Care with no fix or idea as to what the issue could be. The key fob works every time, as long as you are within 30 feet. Connected Service and Customer Care is bad. As far as the design goes, I have never had any other vehicle throw up so much dirt on the door panels and the lift gate and window like the GV70. I have owned other sportback SUVs that stayed cleaner longer. And, there is another issue with the doors on the GV70 which were designed to cover the rocker panels. Because these doors are so much longer at the bottom by about 4-5" than other vehicles, you end up hitting side curbs in parking lots, landscaping and snow mounds when getting out of the vehicle. This vehicle has a problem opening the doors in deep snow. I guess the design engineers were thinking about keeping your pants clean when you get in and out, but not visualizing the bigger problem. There are some features that you will probably never use such as the remote self parking which is very complicated to use and does not do as good or quick of a job as you can do manually. Another is the fingerprint authentication which never works when you need it. There is also no sense to the digital key feature. It doesn't work all the time, and you will be stranded if you do not bring your fob, once your phone loses signal or power. I also don't like that I need the fob in hand to lock the vehicle. Very inconvenient at times. I didn't have that problem with the G90. Now, moving on to the Electrified GV70, I am really disappointed in the charging and range of this vehicle. First of all, if I charge to 100%, my onboard computer tells me that I will get 196 miles. Not the 236 that is advertised. However, I have only been getting somewhere around 115 miles. Nearly a 40-42% error. I would not feel safe traveling more than 60 miles from home at this rate. Secondly, instead of 18 minutes to charge from 10%-80%, it takes between 60-90 minutes on an Electrified America 350kW ultra-fast charger. And it makes no difference if I precondition the batteries. If you are OK with plugging in a level 2 charger at home overnight, then that should not be an issue. In my area along the Great Lakes or heading south, I would have a real issue finding enough CCS fast chargers to make any kind of trip. I am settled to the fact that this vehicle will be a grocery getter and for short trips only. If you are OK with that, then this vehicle will work for you.

Superb Quality at a Decent Price
It’s very early days with our new GV70, but it is already clear that the car is something special. First, and possibly least important, I think it is simply the best looking SUV on the road. Subjective to be sure, so take that as you will, but I can say that friends and neighbors have made similar comments. By the way, the car looks even better in person than in photos. More critically, it possesses a wonderful balance of road comfort and handling. We are migrating from a Mercedes (and BMW before that). I drove small SUVs from both before this purchase, plus models from Audi and Cadillac. The GV70 was, in my opinion, the best of the lot. We also drove the 3.5T version. I do not believe the comparatively small performance increase (and the attendant efficiency penalty) are worth the extra money. Finally, don’t underestimate one of the ‘hidden’ ongoing costs of those aforementioned Mercedes and BMWs. The Genesis is significantly less expensive to insure. Needless to say, with only 400 miles on the vehicle, I can say nothing about longer term reliability. However, at this stage, I would give this car my highest recommendation.

Great Car when it works
Love love love this car but recently turned it back in under the lemon law process. I had driven it 17,000 miles. GV70 3.5, loaded. Can't find anything I like as well to replace it with, but I also need a car I can depend on.
