    Another ford lemon

Thought this would be real nice after all the issues with a transit connect, well it looks nice and has the space needed for a work truck, however it has had weird electrical issues that come and go, Bluetooth randomly won't connect to my phone. Once it had to be reset "by the dealer" at 38,000 miles. Now just over 40k, throttle body needed. Once again ford has convinced a small business their vehicles are worth owning...wrong. Ford has and always will be the WORST most unreliable domestic vehicle brand available...more crap in a new wrapper. Pay more for anything else and don't risk your life everyday driving (or trying to) this junk. UPDATE 6/1/17 so the throttle body failure was a common issue, parts back ordered. Got replacement, told by dealer it's all fixed, still stalls while driving, back to the lemon grove. 4 throttle bodies and 45 days later it runs correctly again. UNREAL that a company would put a consumer through this. I threatened them that it should be replaced under lemon law. So now at 56k miles, only major issue is Bluetooth forgets my phone once every couple weeks, reconnects usually. About every 6 weeks it doesnt, I reset the system by disconnect battery for 3 minutes. Then add phone back and reconnect.. spend your money elsewhere.

I would NEVER recommend these to anyone. Rear brakes are destroyed every 20k miles. Driveshaft couplers? A complete joke, the dealers can't even fix them right! We own 9 of these and they are in the dealer more than they are out. Steer yourself the other way, buy a Nissan NV. We are done with these pieces of junk. All of the items I filled out are correct. Yes, they are that bad.

Front passenger shock absorber replaced within a month of the purchase. The same thing happened to me today, Sep 12, 2016 with 6993 miles. The Van accelerator stop responding, all instrument lights flashing like a xmas tree, beeping sounds....towed the Van to a near Ford dealer, waiting to hear back from the dealer tomorrow. First and last Ford.

Self employed HVAC installer. I opted for the 3.5 eco boost turbo. Wow if it wasn’t for the endless power, I would be out of my mind angry. 12 mpg...Too many problems for a new vehicle. First, the hesitation when shifting into reverse. Annoying. Then the interior lights won’t go off if doors are left open. They’re supposed to. After Ford replaced the Bcm, still on. Had to get a lot of jump starts. Then tore the front of the interior apart! A piece of the wiring harnesses missing... can’t communicate w/ Bcm. (Body cntrl module) Ford still trying to figure out what to do. The little things: drive shaft flex coupling has to be replaced every 30,000 miles, rear brakes wore at 20,000 mls. Have to pull axle out to replace pads, tires wear out fast, very involved job aligning front end! Seam in drivers door blocks mirror, backup camera screen too small, storage is poorly designed (stuff falls of/out) it goes on and on...wort thing: this is my source of income. Every time it goes to the dealer I sit and loose money....

Blown out differential, 22,000. Drive shaft coupling clacked at 33,000. Brake pads wear fast. Water in air filter when it rains due to poor design. Still no real fix for this. Will cost you money in down time.

Driving this new 2016 transit, 250 medium height roof since February. With out warning van randomly loses acceleration, engine won't respond to accelerator and runs rough. Have to coast over into the break down lane and shut off/restart several times before van will drive again. Dealer telling us parts are backordered and 3 weeks out at best. Indicated they have had several other Transits in the shop for the same issue claimed to be the throttle body. Ford will not provide rental reimbursement.

I bought a 2016 Transit MR 250 with the 5 cyl inline powerstroke engine. The power is very good and it is quiet too. C&D magazine was right, the 6 spd transmission shifts seamlessly with the diesel engine and the bigger disc brakes are very effective yet not grabby. I was pleased with the ride and performance from the test drive onward. It handles the road without much leaning and smooths out the bumps. Seating is a little upright but not uncomfortable. We got the rear windows only in our Cargo van. The split mirrors are very good and generally visibility is very good. The only blind spot I have would be eliminated by glass in the sliding door. Ergonomically, It is tight getting in and out of the seats and the rear deck is higher than anticipated. I added a side and rear step but, the Ford side door step is painfully narrow. The bluetooth works well and sound quality is good. The 6 speaker stereo is worth it if you like music. The back up camera and back up alarm work well together combined with the mirrors and rear glass I have no trouble backing anywhere. Mileage for the diesel engine has been 16 mpg around town. We have yet to make a road trip. UPDATE : The Van continues to perform well. Absolutely no regrets choosing this truck for our recreational hobby vehicle. Lots of room in the mid size (length and headroom wise) for dog agility and large RC aircraft hauling. The ride and performance is still better than expected. No repairs needed to date.

Gas mileage is 12 combined city and highway, not loaded. Van is horrible in slush or light snow. Been driving vans for 30 years, terrible gas mileage and terrible in slush and snow Battery system doesn't fully charge, need to jump start once week

I loved this van at first, coming off my F250 Econoline, the motor in the new Van is awesome, fast, torquey and the 6 speed transmission with manual overdrive for downhills was great. 19-21mpg. Brakes were 1000% better than the old van. However, I replaced the old van front brakes every 45K miles and rears never got replaced in 250k miles. Never! The new Transit van goes through rear brakes like vitamins, and I'm easy on brakes. I'm at 30k and they are gone, some people report 15k on rears. I've already had to have the posi-traction rear end replaced at 30k under warranty. Now the MyTouch Sync system went blank, as in dead. So its back to the dealer for more warranty. They are taking care of it, but I'm not sure Ford realizes we buy cars to drive them, not be their experimental test beds. How can you go from never replacing rear brakes to every 30k miles. Sure they work better, so isn't there some common ground in between those 2 concepts. Hmmm? Since my first post, the van has been much better. It still performs well, stops well, and handles excellent for a large vehicle. Mileage is 19-22 mpg still. My only complaint now would be that they offer a nicer interior and insulation package, something for us folks who use this as a primary vehicle. Its pretty noisy, even though I insulated it and used Dynamat in some areas. The battery is under the drivers seat and requires removal of the seat to get to. Would I buy it again? Probably since there is nothing as good, but as soon as somebody realizes that lots of folks have to carry bicycles, motorcycles, larger toys and want them inside and makes a vehicle with the same interior as the nice ford trucks or vehicles, they will have an entirely new market of buyers. Updates as of Sept 2018: the brakes did not need replacing. the dealer told me they did while they were warrantying the rear end, so I took to my local repair shop for brakes and they took em off and said they had 60% life left!!! So the brakes will be just fine on the new van. Since all the warranty items and recalls with the driveshaft, the vehicle has been great. they should have done some homework on the wheel size as you cannot upsize as the tire is so close to the shocks there is a clearance problem. So many Sprinter owners have commented on how much they prefer the larger tire size, especially if you have to drive dirt roads or go off road. Finally, Ford needs to consider the 1000's of owners who buy these for primary vehicles and offer the interior quietness and amenities offered in other vehicles. Trying to quiet a vehicle like this on your own, is quite a project. I opted to get the bigger navigation screen and by doing so, I lost the CD player. Would have preferred the Cd player in hindsight.

Cab interior designed by short people

Cargo space great, drives very good, good braking and acceleration, even with 2k# worth of parts, tools and equip in the back. The driver's side of the cab is poorly designed. The steering wheel does not have enough adjustment up or down; the whole column tilts, instead of just the steering wheel head, as in previous vans, in/out is ok. The seat has to be pulled forward to adequately use the armrests and keep your hands on the wheel. Then, when one exits the driver seat, your right knee bangs into the steering column adjustment and a sharp edge of the badly designed lower cover. Maybe 8" of clearance between the column, in the fully tilted down position, and the front of the seat. One has to twist the left hand into an awkward position to use the cruise control lever. In certain sunlight conditions, the glare from the top of the steering column cover makes the instrument cluster impossible to read. Not enough brightness for the instrument cluster lighting during daylight, when using the headlights; hard to read. And, who thought to put the cup holder out of reach near the door?? The center console bin assembly has inadequate storage both top and bottom; not even enough room for one's sunglasses. The "storage" at the bottom of the console is almost useless; hard to get to, and items put on the little "shelf" tend to roll out onto the floor. The driver's seat armrest is annoying and aggravating; make it a fixed stop in the down position. The left armrest on the door needs to be flatter, and not angled either direction, and also covered with some softer material, similar to the right armrest. If the cab of the Econoline vans were "transplanted" into the Transit, a very much more useful product would result. Update 020817. After driving the vehicle for 11000 or so miles, my original assessment of the vehicle has NOT changed. No amount of driving and mileage will change the design of this particular vehicle.
