bought in jan. 1993 with the exception of oil changes, belts & hoses, i have only replaced the clutch and module. been a very reliable and enjoyable vehicle to drive. I bought a new 2001 f- 150 fwd but i still enjoy driving my ranger better.

Bought new in spring '93 and it's only at 96K now;still looks/runs about as good as new. Beyond regular maintenance we've done no repairs other than replace a cracked clutch slave and deal with the poorly-designed parking brake. All the heat shields have been removed after they started to fall off (or rattle) over the years. Note: this V6 burned about 1 qt oil every 1,500 miles since it was new-- Ford claimed this was "within spec" and it's never really changed. Re-torquing the intake manifold bolts seemed to help for a while, but it certainly didn't stop the oil use.

Wow, 171,000 miles and this little is still running. She's part of the family. I thought about selling her, but why...I love this ford truck...as reliable as my german shepherd Shadow.

I hear this is a petty reliable American Made truck when it's kept in good shape. So I bought this faded red truck for a few hundred bucks. The engine was toast. The suspension needed work. So far, I'm in the middle of the project. The old engine has been taken out and a new engine is in, with all new components under the hood. The next step was to prep the body and get it ready to paint so it'l look good with those new 17 inch wheels and tires that I've had waiting. So the bed was removed, and therein was the proverbial can of worms: The frame was rusty and muddy. The fuel tank strap was almost completely rusted off; the fuel filler hose that is between the body and the gas tank had a slit in it right where it was attached to the tank; the rear leaf spring hangers were cracked and rotted, and so were the shock bushings. I intended to replace almost everything, from springs, to shocks, to brakes, wire wheel the frame, prime and paint it. Only then can the body and bed be prepped and painted. The seats, interior carpet, detailed cab cleaning will come next and then a decent stereo system. If you are able to do this yourself, the cost would be about $3500.00. If the transmission is questionable, then cost could rise by another $1500.00. You could reduce a huge chunk off that cost if you decide to stick with original wheel size and cheaper tires.

My Ranger was given to me when I got my license back in 2009 from my grandpa. It only had 211,XXX miles on it. Well now it has 286,675 and still going strong. Have never had a problem, gets me from point A all the way to point Z even. Couldn't have asked for a better first vehicle. The truck may not be the prettiest thing on the road but who cares, its very dependable and gets fairly good gas mileage. Can't really complain with 18-20 around town and 22-26 on the highway. The only serious thing that needed to be replaced was the battery cable which was a cheap and easy fix.
