Not too good.
The 4 cylinder runs well. The transmission needs another gear, 3 speeds doesn't cut it. Build quality is poor. Cheap plastic interior. Doors fit poorly. And the rust. OMG. The rocker panels are rusting from the inside out. Rear bumper where it attaches to the frame needs replaced. Floorboards in front of the rear seat have rusted through. The undercoating that was used from the factory apparently lifts from the metal surface after a while, allowing condensation to form and eat the car. has been losing layers of rusted metal.
The first Fusion was mine!
I generally don't get excited with American cars. I drove the Fusion and immediately leased one. It reminds me of the Taurus SHO in handling and performance & oh yeah ... 30 MPG or so with a trunk I could camp out in. They even made the seats comfortable. Toyota hasn't figured out how to do that yet!
2006 Ford Fusion
Very nice vehicle that regularly garners complements on its appearance. Those considering an import should give this Ford a try! I test drove the 4 and 6, and liked the way the four cylinder handled--it felt more sporty vs. the heavier, bigger care feel of the six cylinder. I have no regrets, especially since the 4 gets better gas mileage, too. (23 MPG with all city driving; it shows 33 on the computer for those rare instances that I get it on a highway).
Transmisson issues
I bought my 2006 Fusion brand new with 15 miles on it. 5 years and 164000 miles later the transmission went out. That is the only issue I really had with this car. It started at about 120000 with the vehicle hard shifting into 3rd gear. I am very happy with everything else the car has to offer. I am replacing the transmission and hope to get alot more miles out of it. I really think the car is well put together. I am not really complaining due to the amount of miles I drive. Hopefully I can drive it for another 100000 with no issues.
Tried it, like it
My husband works for Ford and it was time to turn in the car I had so I decided to lease the 2006 Ford Fusion. There weren't that many on the lot, so I took an SE I4. I like it, it's comfortable, rides smooth, and nice.
