Used 2014 Ford Explorer Sport 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl Turbo 6A) Consumer Reviews
Ford Exploder looks good but doesn't run!
I purchased the 2014 Explorer Sport in 2016 with 36k miles on it. In August 2019, with 86k miles on it, the engine blew. Had to have the car towed from the parking lot at work. Prior to this, the engine light was on constantly regarding the timing belt. My mechanic kept monitoring it, but indicated the only fix was a $2k replacement of the oil pan and timing belt. Felt the car was safe to drive and I regularly changed the oil. OK, maybe a little long on the $3k miles occasionally -hey, I'm a busy single mom!! Once the engine blew, I contacted Ford to see if they would help with the repair. I have owned numerous cars during my life, mostly used, and have never had an engine blow. I take care of my cars (have a Durango with $200k+ miles and the engine is solid). Ford's response was basically "no warranty, no recall, no assistance". This engine NEVER should have failed the way it did. $5k later, I have a "new used" engine in my Ford Exploder (which is what I call it now!). Maybe this was a fluke, but I don't think so. So the car spent 4 weeks looking good, but not running. Going back to Dodge!!!
