Used 2002 Ford Explorer Consumer Reviews
Suprisingly Versitile
When I purchased this vehicle, I was expecting the good ride and reliability but I have been suprised at the towing power of the six cylinder engine and the vehicles off road capabilities. I hunt elk in Idaho and have used the vehicle pulling rv trailers and camping rigs. While hunting I have used it off road with suprising success.
wow
i love my truck. Roomy, comfortable, rides and handles extremely well; all the bells and whistles. Cons: Not the greatest gas mileage, but is getting a little better As the proud owner of my fourth Ford Explorer, I can honestly say the 2002 Explorer is absolutely the best model yet! New technology, great styling, 3rd row seat. Cons: Gas mileage, ugly key fob. I recently traded an amazing 230,000 mile Honda Accord for a brand new Explorer. The main reason being that I need more space.

BAD TRANNY
Car is great, esp with the v8!. At 38k, the transmission completely failed. I thought it was a phenominal vehicle until this. As soon as the warranty was up, the transmission took a dump, and this car was not driven roughly. $3,000 for ford to get the car running again.
Improve Quality
Too many ominous problems. The transmission has never shifted very smoothly. The interior pieces are flimsy and some have been replaced. The rear mid-gate just cracked. The radio overheats and the paint is lousy. On average I am the lone occupant and driver and have always been careful to take care of my cars. I'm glad the family car is a 2002 Expedition. Its' quality is much better and holds up to kids.
Luving it..
Very happy with my 2002 1/2 Explorer. The exterior design is very sharp, and the interior extremly well thought out. Abundant cup holders, two power points, big center console. Third seat is comfortable and useful. Vehicle defect free with 1500 miles on it. The automatic four wheel drive system kicks in immediately when needed, tested it 'off-road' and it worked great. A very good vehicle IMHO!
