Used 1997 Ford Explorer Consumer Reviews
Expected Better
I neww people who had good luck with their explorers. I have enjoyed mine but have had to invest money into many repairs, some back to back, making it inconvienient. I have 85k on it now but have had to have front suspension work done, intake manifold work, fuel injector work, cooling system overhalled and other repairs.Interior tears up fast. Console and drivers seat are torn up and rear seatbelts are stuck and not usuable (unsafe). Im dissapointed.
The Green Beasty
Why I love my beat up old Ford. With 115,000 miles (and counting) she still runs like a dream. I have replaced a few things here and there (but I have with every older car I have owned) Hint for people with gas mileage problems: change the oil, clean fuel injectors, replace air filter, keep tires inflated properly, and change your fuel filter. I still get 19 miles to the gallon or higher (pretty good for an old SUV). Oh and don't drive a aggressively (makes a huge difference). 10 years down lots more to go.

Good truck
Good truck, manual transmission is a little touchy and sometimes is hard to shift. Handling and ride are excellent. 4-WD works well, doesn't always kick in right away. CD changer skips a lot. Its got 130,000 miles, and still runs like new. Only big problem right now is the side-step bars are rusting
Nice Truck
I bought this truck used in March 2002. I was a high school student then who wanted a 'cool' ride. Everything is working very well, so far. I had a $375 mechanical problem, but that was just minor details. Other than that, this is an awesome vehicle. I have a 5 spd manual w/ 2WD so I'm expecting less problems with transmission.
A reliable cement truck
Bought 2 years ago with 46,000 miles on the truck. Great reliability but the ride is punishing and gas consumption is alarming. I own a 2001 Chevy Tahoe with a big V8 that uses far less fuel and rides much smoother. The 4WD is tremendous in foul weather, and we can't complain about repairs, but what a brutal ride to all the gas stations!
