We've had great luck with our 97. It has the V-8 which gives it excellent accelleration, but not-so-good mileage. The power seats still work, and the factory installed audio equipment is wonderful, still.

I bought this car in the spring of 2000 with 45,000 miles already on it. within the first year I had spent over 1,000 dollars just to keep it running on top of normal costs. I love the car, but am not anxious to buy another Ford.

Bought new, has been extremely dependable. No problems with engine, drive line, gears, or 4 wheel dr. Happy with entire vehicle, inside & out, and really surprised with dependability.

My Explorer has been a great ride for the past five years. No problems of any kind. There were a couple of recalls, but nothing worrisome. (Mine came with GoodYears). I got a sunroof, a nice cloth interior, the expected ammenities, and everything worked well together. The engine and transmission are smooth. It's been to Florida and back twice, and was trouble-free. I actually felt safe driving this vehicle in all conditions. Good in the snow up north too, and 4WD has been perfect.

I bought my Explorer used in 1998 with 21,000 miles already on it. I took very good care of it and kept up with all the main fluid changes myself. I drove it every where. I now have 210,000 miles on it, with the original transmission, can you imagine, a Ford... and it is still driveable! During my time with the truck since 1997, I have replaced basic wear and tare items and some basic mechanical itmes (3 oc sensors, some part in the front suspension area, sv joint, the driverside door handle, the a/c leaks. However, the transmission is finally starting to slip, the check engine light is on, the 4x4 trasnfer case, the 4x4 lights are flashing, speed sensor is gone bad. Will buy a newer Explorer
