Awesome Van
I was very hesitant about buying this van. It is my 1st import or diesel vehicle. Bought this vehicle w/650 miles, 144" & std roof. Dealer titled previously. Drove it home on a hwy (150miles) @ ~15F and got 19.7mpg (speed 65mph). Drove it on another hwy trip (300miles) @ ~30F and got 23mpg (speed 55-65mph). No crankcase oil used so far @ 1400miles. Starts unbelievably fast and w/o assist @ 0F (no cords for block heaters, etc. - only 1 battery). No exhaust fumes (completely clear - even in the winter from a cold start), quiet, economical and fast. This diesel van is not like the domestics out there. Some great minds must have come together to build this vehicle. Nice vehicle.
Sprinter 2500-144 CRD-2008
This German Diesel van is one of the finest truck that I have ever driven. Fuel milage is 22 mpg regularly. The hyway handling is more like a car that a truck. In city the 144 is never hard to get through stop & go traffic. The seats don't look like much but w/ many adjustment at the finger tip it is easy to get relocated. Removed the metal divider behind the driver & passenger seats. Now moving to the back doesn't require stopping & going outside to open the side door. Hang a plastic clear curtain behind the seats & the A/C will not work so hard to keep the front cold. Do a lot of cross country driving & the tank range is plenty but could be larger. Stock tires don't get over 30k

Got to love it!
How can you not like a ten foot tall van that carries 3000lbs and still gets 18 MPG when I run it at the top speed of 81 MPH. I can even get 20 MPG if I don't exceed 65 MPH!
if you know whats good for you, stay away
What can i say the van looks good, drives good and the fuel economy is good for a vehicle of its size. I suggest leasing and giving them back. You have to be a millionaire literally when they start to break down. If there are electrical problems like i had only the dealer can fix it and it took them almost 3 weeks. The part also took 1 week to arrive.I can't even imagine they plan on people buying these things to make a living with and it takes them 1 week to get one stupid part. These things are electrical nightmares. Makes no sense to me why they would put all this crazy electronics in a work van. Useless.Van loses power all the time.Check engine light causes this.Never buy one again
Sprinter
The best van I have ever owned hands down. I am getting 23 mpg around town, plus I have all the room I need to do any type of flooring. Drives like a car, very comfortable ride. My gas savings from my existing gmc box truck will pay off my sprinter in 7 years.
Not reliable, but otherwise excellent
We have owned our 2007 Sprinter 2500 144"WB high roof van for about a year in commercial service. It has been excellent in every respect, except it has broken down three times now and left the drivers stranded. The first time involved the vehicle quitting on the interstate. The second time the vehicle refused to start. The third time the vehicle failed to respond to throttle acceleration. Needless to say, our drivers became afraid to drive this vehicle and it had to be given to our GM instead.
Like it
We own 2 Sprinters. Wish they were not so expensive but ours appear to be holding up well. Outstanding fuel economy compared to our gasoline vans.Almost double. One unit has 60,000 miles, the other around 30,000. The only weak point we have found is the brakes are quite small and wear out quickly, about 20-25,000 miles. Figure on replacing pads every 20,000 to avoid having to replace rotors.
08 dodge sprinter 3500 170" cargo
This van had 35 miles when bought new, Had a very bad vibration, Had the dealer to rotate & balance all tires, assuming its fixed, took it home vibration ia alot worse. took to the dealer again, again, and again. finally they changed front tires only and force balance , no luck. after 1 month back and forth , the dealer agreed on changing all tires , vibration is gone about 85% .also had power steering leak they had the rack replaced, fixed. fuel gauge gets stock, doesn't read correct, have to get it fixed. alligment had to be done also when r&r. rack. Hopefully nothing else goes wrong. Drove 5 sprinters they all have this vibration also rack is a comon proplem. Don't buy it if vibra.noticed
Great Van
This is an excellent sized van. We bought it as a new leftover for well under invoice. The space and carrying capacity is unrivaled in this class. The seats are quite comfortable and although this is a work van, it can be easily forgotten and feel like we are drving an RV. Prices can be had in the high 20's with this economy.
Good vehicle, needs some work
2007 3.0 liter Sprinter. Love vehicle except repairs. Two glow plugs had to be replaced, rack and pinion had to be replaced because of fluid leaking out. When raining parking assist does not work, it shows fault, dealer can't fix. Radio would not hold same station after ignition is turned off, dealer can't fix it. Some time engine looses power, you have to pull over shut engine off wait 5 minutes and when it rides OK. Currenty have 65,000 miles MPG is between 16-18 depending on the load. Brakes don't last but 20,000 miles. Overall fun to drive, love inside height.
2008 Sprinter Diesel Cargo 144 WB
Have driven 6,000 combination miles so far, worst mpg is 19 best is 22. Appears with my rear end ratios I will be getting better in town mpg than hwy at 70. I'm carrying 1600 lbs. constantly as cargo in form of boxes. This van is a dream to drive. My history has been 5 Ford Vans, and this is by far a cut above. Turning radius is much tighter than any other van I know of. Ability to lock doors after exiting appears to be non-existent, unless using the fob. This does,of course, prevent any lock-outs I presume. My experience so far has been above my expectations. Anyone willing to make the jump-up on the front end to purchase one, will be justified after a few miles under ones belt
Poor Engine & Transmission, do not buy!
I know three people who have the same model as I do. We have replaced the turbo resonator 4 times (3 in warranty). Two years into the purchase and we are hit with a $10,000 transmission bill. Six months later, $3,000 for air conditioning problems. All three friends have also replaced the transmission and have had turbo issues. I would never buy this brand vehicle again.
Would buy again, but needs work
Love the van, hate the price paid, and dealer service stinks. As a result, I do my own repairs and farm out the dirty jobs to locals (oil changes, brakes). Repairs are reasonable this way. Van eats light bulbs and brake pads. Has had a series of small but annoying problems throughout ownership but has never left us stranded. 1 glow plug dead, driveshaft carrier bearing sometimes makes squeaky noise, can't reset oil change reminder without dealer diagnostic equipment (which fortunately we own). Other than that, it's a phenomenal van. No roadie-walk when moving around in the box. Still turns heads 2 years later. Drives like a car. I'd buy another.
Great Van when it works
This is my third Sprinter and it is by far the worst. The old 5 cylinder got much better mileage with the same power. Repairs take forever because lack of parts and experience with them usually only one master mechanic per dealership I found. In 50k miles had 2 glow plugs go bad, the pads are crap and where the rotors out $2200 for all 4, leaking power steering rack $2k, bad power steering pump, had the shifter spring break twice leaving it stuck in park or in drive $750 then $1500 to replace the shifter, the volume knob on the radio does not work for some reason anymore and the transmission needs a special dipstick to check the fluid level. My advice is buy a proven more reliable work van.
Total PITA to own
Total pain to keep running. I have 48,000 miles and the engine light has been on most of its life taking it in for the 2nd EGR valve replacement next week replaced glow plugs still need a very expensive GP module
Overexperience
I bought this passenger van in May '07. I have just finished a trip from Seattle to Las Vegas. I am doing about 16.6 MPG. It is fund to drive, especially when you pull into a parking lot. People approached me and asked questions about it. There are some problems like rattling noises in the back trunk. when I filled up the tank, there are still two missing bars. I took it the my dealer, they could not fix it yet because it is so new. The machenic told me that he plug his computer and read that my gas mileage is 17 mpg, he corrected to run at 22 mpg. I read some threads on this forum saying that the gas mileage will increase once I finish the break-in period. I give it a 6 overall
Satisfied Sprinter owner
Purchased a 2007 Sprinter 144" WB with high roof. Have had vehicle for a week and am getting 22 mpg. Very comfortable and easy to drive. Purchased with rear windows and side window for better visibility. Glad I did. Visibility is very good. This is a great work van with great gas mileage.
A bit expensive but worth it
Very easy to drive in city and despite its size is very swift. Of course, transmission and engine is made by Mercedes and that what makes this cargo far superior compared with other vans.
Rust
White paint = rust, gets stuck on snowy hills.
