High Output Cummins Diesel
I purchased this truck used though the online listings on the Edmunds web page. The truck is a 2002, SLT 2500 Ram, 4x4, with the High Output Cummings Diesel. I purchased the truck used with 80,000 miles on it and immediately fell in love with the truck. The HO Cummings has plenty power,(235 HP & 500 lbft of torque), while still achieving an outstanding 18-MPG highway. Even when loaded down with a 10,000 lb 5th wheel trailer it still manages to get 15-MPG Highway.
cummins diesel
Comfortably Truck.I owned a F350 powerstoke before this.I tow a 6000 pnd trailer practically every day.The Dodge tows better at lower speeds(i.e better bottom end)but it could not keep up with the Ford wide open on the highway. If your towing long highway miles the Ford is better, But if your towing off road like I do The Dodge is much better. The Dodge also gets slightly better fuel mileage also.

2002 Dodge Ram Ext SLT 4x4 5.9L Cummins
Great fuel economy for a 7000lb truck. I average 19mpg hwy/city commuting. This truck rides like a truck so don't think you are buying a soft riding vehicle. The interior noise is much b/c of the engine and road noise. The 4x4 is the best with the solid axle and positive engagement with the manual shifter. These trucks are a good investment if you plan on keeping it for an extended amount of time. On the diesel make sure that your lift pump on you fuel system checked. If the lift pump is bad the VP-44 injection will draw the fuel but this will prematurely wear your $2000 Injection pump to failure.
Miss my 02 Dodge Ram
I loved my 02 Dodge Ram but traded it in January 2007 for a new one. The new models indeed have more power but it was not needed. I towed and hauled to the MFG limits of the trucks and never had an issue. The 02 Ram had a better stance and a firmer suspension for heavy duty use off road and on, thus allowing me to go over the payload limits all the time and never notice a difference. Many days my truck ran with 3,000lbs in the bed and a 900lb snow plos on the front. GREAT TRUCK! VERY TOUGH! If you get a Dodge and can choose always go for the stick shift. ;-)
One Great Truck
3rd ram truck. Frist Diesel owned. All the power needed ,with room for a big guy and his faimly. Throw away the YUPPIE suv's and get a real truck.
The Best Truck
I had a chevy hd with nothing but problems, Thia Dodge is the best truck ever built.
Tuff truck
This is my first Dodge truck. I always had Fords. After driving a diesel through the hills of upstate New York, I will never go back to gas motors. It has 69,000 miles on it and only had one problem with it the windsheild. Had a water leak. So far it's been tough.
DODGE 2500
My wife and I wanted the looks of a Dodge Ram. I wanted the economy and pulling power of a diesel. I get about 22 miles/gallon on interstate empty and get 13 mpg pulling an 8500 lbs 5th wheel camper at posted speeds.
Great Truck
I had a 2001 chey 2500hd. HD stands for half Dodge!
2002 2500 Cummins I 6
Excellent, very good, moves out of its own way.
2002 Dodge 2500
Great all-around truck. Ride is good for 3/4 ton, both loaded and unloaded.
Reggie Dodge
I love the fuel economy 21 to 22 highway, 19 around home. Pulls 5th wheel campers (11,000 lbs) with no troubles. Starts good in cold temperature down to 10 degrees easily with out the block heater with synethic oil. My wife loves it and she bought it.
DODGE RAM 2500 DIESEL
Awesome truck!! Can't beat them!
THE BEST
I had a chevy before and I will never go back. I am so much happier with my Dodge.
No Limits!
Great truck fun to drive , work, play, school!
safe rig
This is my forth dodge truck. I just wrecked it this morning, on icy VT roads. We rolled it twice at 50 mph. I climbed out of the smoking wreck amazed we were all ok. Just wanted to say it did well in the wreck, but the hieght may have contributed to the rollover. Once it refused to start, but I may have flooded it. I got a good deal on it, but think I will miss it, gas hog and all.
Dodge Ram High Output
I bought this truck brand new and four years later it has only been back to the dealer once, unlike my 97 GMC which was at the dealer almost every other month I owned it. The front seats are very comfortable but the back seats are too small for adults except for short trips. Fuel mileage is great for a 7,000 lb truck: 17-18 city and 19-23 highway. A fuel pressure gauge needs to be installed on these trucks as the fuel transfer pumps fail and you may not even know it until it takes out the expensive injector pump. The front track bar wears out quickly and the truck wanders badly if its not replaced. Fortunately there are aftermarket fixes for these problems. Very happy with my truck!
Great Truck But
I Had the transmission go out at 36,000 the the truck has 55,000 on it now and have not had any I mean any other Problems with it. That is somthing I can not say for my '97 GMC 350 3/4 ton 4x4 I had too many things to list that whent wrong with it and this is coming from a person that in the past would only buy a GM. I love My 2002 3/4 ton Dodge Ram 4x4 with the 5.9 Turbo Diesel.
Good strong truck
Bought my truck new with the Cummins diesel. It pulls my 32 ft fifth wheel easily. I get 17 around town and 22 0n the hwy. Pulling the trailer I get 9 to 12 MPG. Does wonder and good power. Transmission worked on once for rebuild at 60,000 and sensors at 135,000. Love driving it cross country.
awesome
I love my turbo ram 100% The looks you get when you blowaway a gaser from the stop lights.
Happy With Dodge
I never owned a dodge truck or Diesel engine, would not go back to gasoline engine. Just wish that I should have waited for the 2003 model. Overall I love driving the truck.
THE BEST TRUCK EVER
THIS IS THE BESST DODGE TRUCK I HAVE EVER HAD, THIS IS MY 8TH DODGE. BUT THIS IS MY FIRST 3/4 TON. AND IT HAS BEEN GREAT! ONLY ONE {1} TRIP TO THE DEALERSHIP, TO PUT THE DRIVER'S SEAT CUSHION BACK IN PLACE, HAS POWER SEATS, WENT TOOO HIGH AND POPPED OUT OF TRACK, WAS FIXED IN LESS THEN AN HOUR. COLOR IS LIGHT ALMOND / TAN WITH 360CI {5.9L} V8 AND 4SPEED AUTO. WILL GET 13 - 16 MPG IN CITY AND 14 - 18 MPG ON THE HIGHWAY. (HAS TOWING PACKAGE AND 4.11 REAR GREARS}
good truck
The Diesel gets about 14 in town and 19 on the road. The auto trans whent out at 36,000 I am not very confident in the trans but for now it seems to be fine at 56,000. The paint chips very easy and scraches easy. other than that if You want to gamble with Doges Transmissions it,s a great truck.
great truck
powerful mean looking
2002 RAM 2500 HO DIESEL
HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH TRUCK, KEPT IT FOR ONE YEAR AND HAVE PURCHASED A 2003 RAM 2500 HO DIESEL
Very Poor Vehicle
In two years of ownership, it has spent four months in the shop. 2 transmissions, 5 rear axles, electrical problems in the dashboard, tow mirror replacement, and now the steering column fell out. It has been towed to the dealership twice. The quad doors rattle and pop because they don't shut properly. Dodge paint sucks. The hood, roof and rocker panels are completely chipped. Fuel mileage is poor. 9 mpg towing and 16 mpg empty. When a Dodge owner tells you they are getting 22 mpg, they're telling you a lie. Steering is poor. On the freeway, the truck wanders terribly.
love this truck
very good vehicle. excellent performance and reliability of the drivetrain. fit and finish of body and interior items could be better. overall i am very pleased with my truck.
An Excellent Truck
I Love It(except 4 the Gas Mileage It has 4.10's and gets 12 to 13 mpg.)
