Love my 2006 Ram 1500!
I purchased my Ram 1500 4WD Laramie quad cab new in 2006. It is equipped with the 5.7 liter hemi. So far, it's been bullet proof. In 10 years, only one trip to the dealer for a warranty repair on an "air gate" that was making noise and preventing proper air circulation. That was covered promptly under warranty and no other service actions other than normal maintenance. I live in Montana and hunt and fish a lot so I'm often using the truck to tow my boat (about 30 times a year) or traveling off-road while hunting. The truck is also used for routine hauling around my property. Pros: reasonable power and torque, outstanding reliability, super sound system and GREAT fuel mileage (about 18.5 mpg on the highway when not towing my boat) with the 5.7 liter hemi with MDS (shuts off 4 cylinders when all 8 are not needed). The creature comforts are also a big plus (leather, dual climate zones, power everything). Con: when towing up hills, the transmission often "hunts" for the ideal gear and shifts too often. I'm betting it's programmed to optimize mileage so it often shifts to a higher gear than I'd like. This has been a great truck for 10 years and I hope to use it for another 10!

2006 Dodge Ram
My 1st truck: so no comparison-but I love it. Got the V-6 and it has plenty of power. Truck came with the optional lower rear end; which I wouldn't have bought-maybe this helps with the power? Have thought about changing to the standard rear end-but wonder if any computers would need to be changed. Water pump failed at around 50K, which I didn't think should happen. My main complaint is the AC. It has never been cold. Took it back to the dealer and he said it was operating to spec. Dropped the headliner and put in a heat shield and tinted the rear windshield but didn't seem to help. Now the recirc door has broken (maybe has been broken for a long time) which really limits the airflow.

Frank Truck
A good looking truck, inside and out. Came with 20in wheels which make it stand out. And the price was low.
Glad I Dodged a GM!
I purchased my 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT Lone Star Edition for $8k with 100k miles and couldn't be more satisfied! Awesome towing power, comfortable no nonsense interior with ample storage, smooth handling, 16mpg's in town 20 on the highway & body style still looks great for a 13 year old vehicle,I get asked a lot if I bought a brand new truck and I'm like... New to me. So far so good with only normal maintenance performed; brakes, tires, oil changes and tranny flushes. Would definitely recommend this year Dodge!

Another Improved Design
This is my 4th Dodge Ram and with each newer purchase I see the many improvements that Chrysler does to these trucks. Now that Mercedes is involved these trucks are much better with both fit and finish and design. This 4.7 V-8 is providing me with exceptional mileage at 17 mpg's around town. This is a major improvement over the 13 I got in my 2000 Ram with the 318. Overall I am very pleased with this truck.
my mpg is 18.6 mpg on hemi
I had 30k on my slt quad cab 06 ,got the hemi and the 20" plus is 4x4, my truck color is the red inferno turns heads a lot with big horn package (towing ready, infinity sound,)nothing chance under the hood and still make 18.6 on the hwy going 60 to 65 mph with ac on !! the secret: dont go over 2000 rpm, driving in the city be very gentle on the gas. on this truck is enought the hemi badge to show others you have lot of balls use it when pulling trailers, loads, toys. i wish i could have bigger breakes, and more feedback from the wheel is soft and some times when you go on bump feel is missing. if the road is smooth you have a great ride but if not bounce a lot.this is for me the best looking t
Simply the Best
A great truck. In real world driving it's returned 14.5 in mixed and 19 hwy mpg when using the cruise control. Outstanding for a 345 HP Hemi. It rides as well and is as quite as our Cadillac Escalade. I have the cloth seats and they are very comfortable. After a 700 mile trip, my back felt great! My truck was equiped with the Thunderroad pkg. I love the looks of the 20" rims. This truck has it all...quality build, awesome looks, muscle car power, and a comfortable ride that rivals the very best!! Combine that with Employee pricing and cash rebates and you have the very best value for a full size truck...bar none!!!
Better than a Honda
Excellent truck, ST value package quad cab 2wd with a automatic 4.7l.I traded a Honda Civic '06 (junk) in .I could not be more pleased with my purchase. I like the redesign on '06 model. It rides better and quieter than '05 model.
06 Dodge ram 1500 slt
I love my Ram runs great course every vehicle has their problems and none are perfect, but this truck is great if u have the MDS in the hemi 5.7 then its a great engine with a good drive line behind it to be honest im not to thrilled on the 4.7 it drinks gas and doesn't have much power considering that engine at that time was designed with the Dakota and Durango more in mind so made for a lighter truck but I work for dodge and their new 5.7's, 4.7's the new 3.6 and not released yet but the new 3.0 diesel in the 1500 all great engines again the 4.7 drinks fuel but the others are great looking around 14-19 mpg depending on your driving habbits. all in all GREAT trucks.
The Black & Blue Flame
I have owned F150's for the past 26 years. Not anymore! This Dodge 1500 I own is a superior vehile in ever manner. Performance, style, comfort. Ford, Chevy, or any other manufacturer don't even come close.
My Dodge Review
Very much a joy to own. The truck is very comfortable, and the drivability is great. The new frame really seems to help handling, and the truck is very quiet. Power is great with the 5.7, and the 5 speed auto seems to always be in the correct gear. Very nice truck overall.
Great Truck
great overall only had one issue and that was the transmission pack went out so it wouldn't shift.
A GOOD FIND
I bought my 2006 used. I have owned it for a year now and I love my Dodge. I have recommended the Dodge Ram to two of my buddies and both of them now love theirs too.

Newest Dodge
Love driving the vehicle! For the most part, I bought it for the handling and ride.Fuel mileage is adequate, although not near the advertised 19 mpg highway. I've also noticed the transmission does not shift smoothly. The truck "surges" when shifting up through the gears.
Great Truck !!
This has been a Great truck! I bought this truck to tow our new camper, which our old minivan had a tough time doing, even with a tow package. Also, this would be my wife's vehicle and needed to carry our three kids, with one still in an infant seat. We installed nerf bars so my wife could get in, the 20" wheels made it difficult for her, and she has been in love with it ever since. The Hemi pulls like a champ and after we installed a tonneau cover, our mpg went to 15/20! We towed our camper to FL and averaged 16.5 mpg! The only issue we've had is with the seat coverings, they show every water drop like its a stain. We had them replaced once, but they still do the same thing. Great Truck!
My Best Friend
Ram was always my pick of choice, and will forever be! Tho I've had to settle with a Ford once (which the transmission was completely ruined at 150K+ miles.), and I have had a Chevy (which the motor died on me at 170k+Miles.). I purchased my first ram in 2016, a 2006 4.7 V8 4wd. Regardless of the rust on her..... I had a vision for. I got my ram at 220k, now she's at 275K and I haven't had no problems with her besides minor components. The motor is strong and the transmission is even stronger, the double elbow springs are amazing, and who knew you can do so much with 245 Hp, and 300ft torque. I have added a few performance parts and she's even more powerful!!! I'm never let down. Even my dodge charger 2010 never gave me an issue! I have major respect for Ram, Dodge, Jeep, and Chrysler.. their vehicles are sport worthy, powerful, and reliable!! Mopar or No Car the Moment!!

I love my Ram
The truck is everything I expected, and more. Extremely attractive, handles and rides great. The Hemi speaks for itself, all the power you need. And with a set of duals on, it sounds great.
Hands down the worst vehicle I've ever owned
And I've had some really bad ones over the years. Within just a few weeks of purchase- used, the power steering pump went out (google/common problem), the tach quit working (common problem), the blower motor developed such a racket you couldn't hear the radio over it, then the resistor failed so it was WFO or nothing, adding insult to injury. The brake fluid level switch at the master cylinder reservoir started intermittently shorting out, causing the ABS and BRAKE lights on the dash to illuminate (google/common problem). Here lately the transmission has developed an alarming lag to engage reverse first thing in the morning, almost as if the reverse pump is going out. Dodge should be ashamed of themselves for marketing such a poorly constructed pile of crap. I've got a GMC Yukon that's 5 yrs older and has 40,000 more miles on it, but its power steering works like butta, same with the blower motor and resistor, same with the tachometer, etc. The 4.7l doesn't deserve to be called a "power" plant- it has none. ANYWHERE. IN ANY GEAR. AT ANY RPM. Dodge might as well have put a 4cyl under the hood for all the good that V8 does. It's a laugh, if it didn't make me want to cry. The rear middle seat belt constantly hangs up, aggravating to both me and my son, since I'm the one that has to fix it for him. The ignition is so worn out the key will simply fall right out if you hit a bump right, and the suspension could teach an Abrams tank a thing or two, it's.....horrible....is even being too kind. I had my reservations about trusting an "older" dodge product. I should've gone with my gut and stuck to a GM or Ford product, but I fell victim to naivety, a serious time crunch, and flashy looks (Silver/20"alloys/Big Horn) and I've regretted it ever since. It is an awful awful truck. I tried to resell it, asking $1,000!!! LESS!!! than the previous owner I had just purchased it from had asked, and for a month I couldn't get any takers, I ended up just swallowing the bitter pill and taking my lumps like a man. I hope this review helps someone out there avoid my mistake. Stay away from this truck, there are plenty of others out there (Sierra/F150/Titan/Tundra) that simply can NOT be as bad as this one.

Love it!
Purchased one because I am a big fan of both pick-ups and Dodge, and this beast is great. Big body styling, tons of power, and for the size of both the vehicle and the engine I really can't complain about fuel mileage. Comfortably seats my family of 6 (taken a couple of 4+ hour road trips in it), only real problem with interior is with 3rd person on front bench you lose cup holders for legroom. Otherwise very simply designed interior, lots of anemities that make it a snazzy vehicle still built for practicality.
Moby lives!
My truck is white, hence the nickname. It fits in my garage which most neighbors' trucks don't. It handles very well, has great performance, and mileage better than my Durango [so long as I don't get too happy with the Hemi]. All in all, it may be the best vehicle I've puchased in the last 35 years.
poor gas milage
This truck is half the truck my 98 gmc z71 was. I mean the 4 wheel drive has a mild low range and cant really get the truck to pull the boat out of the water. The ride is rough and have no idea that a truck made in 2006 can get the same fuel economy as a model A. The comfort of the seat is like siting on a rock. I dont know if its because the truck is cheaply made or that all the other american made trucks are that much better. Also if you lean against the truck you will dent the slim sheet metal. I can't think of any other truck that shifts as much as this one. It dosen't even know when it wants to.
2006 Dodge
Have had mine for 4 years now with 49k on odometer. At approx. 15k I had to have air recirculation door replaced (warranty). At 30k I had to have rotors turned and transmission replaced (transmission replaced under warranty). I rarely tow and when I do it is nothing more than an enclosed motorcycle trailer with a Harley. I'm a bit disappointed in reliability. Plenty of power, very quiet and comfortable ride and plenty of room except for rear seat passengers. Avg. fuel economy is between 16 and 17 mpg. -- I expected closer to 20 mpg with the MDS system. I'll keep it as long as it runs but I'll probably go with Ford when the time comes to replace it.
Better than My '04 Hemi
My wife an I had an '04 Hemi that was what I thought was the perfect truck. The new Night Runner we just purchased is incredible. On long trips it is comfortable, and has a smooth ride. it's powerful and more refined. Dodge is bringing a quality product to the table, and I will continue to buy them. We love HP, and Dodge gives you a killer baseline to begin with. What a product! A+++
Ram
I have got to say that I love this truck, all the towing power that I need and what an eye turner. with 345 hp enough to show everyone that Dodge has the right idea about building a man's truck!
New Hemi owner
Love the truck, wish it actually could get in the MPG rates that the window sticker had... but I didn't buy it for gas mileage. I'm averaging around 13- 14 MPG mixed driving. Other than that, it's a great pickup, plenty of power. A side note: I got sat. radio free for a year, neat service. I'm hooked.
I Converted
I never knew a truck could function so well as a true multi-purpose vehicle. It has excellent styling and build quality, a better ride than my 2002 Accord V6 that I traded in, lots of room, and an outstanding powertrain. Simply a great truck. The fuel consumption stings a little, but it could be worse.
Better trucks out there
Many problems with this pickup, so far dealer has been good about fixing them. 4-door quad cab not much more than an extended cab with 4-doors. Get mega cab if you really intend to have adults in the back seat.
Nice Truck
I have a 30 minute drive to work with 10 min. in town, 20 min. on 55 mph sparsely traveled rural roads. At 55- 60, I consistently get around 21 mpg with the Hemi running on 4 cylinders. My pure hwy mpg is even better than that. I chose this truck over a Ford mainly because the rural commute would allow me to benefit from the cylinder deactivation function, which the Ford did not have. In town and freeway mileage is what you'd expect from a full sized truck. I tow an 18 1/2 ft boat with no problems. The TRX4 off-road suspension is a bit stiff on road when light loaded, but I'm overall very happy with it. It's excellent off- road. This is my 1st Dodge truck. No regrets.
Get the Hemi!
Checked out F150 and the new Tundra and decided to go with Ram 1500 Quad Cab with the 5.7 Hemi V8. Ram has a better feel for the road. It has a tough, yet elegant look.
Love My Ram
What a great truck. I now have 8000+ miles and have not experienced any "wheel shimmy" with the 20" alloy wheels as others have stated. The ride is excellent and the Hemi HP is awesome. I have added a AeroTurbine exhaust to replace the stock muffler and the sound is outstanding with a horsepower boost and mpg increase also. Nothing like a Hemi that sounds like a Hemi.
Father and Son's favorite toy
I purchased this 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 Big Horn Edition Quad Cab to replace my 2003 Dodge Dakota Club Cab. I needed the room since I'm 6'4" and 220lbs and I need to put a carseat in it for my son. I love the fact that I don't have to bend down or over to put my son in his chair. My back thanks MOPAR for the truck's ride height. I have the MDS Hemi I average about 22-23 MPG. I put an AEM Brute force intake on it and a Flowmaster Super 40 series muffler on it. Needless to say its the biggest, baddest truck on the block. My son loves it just as much as I do. I feel safe in it no matter what the weather does. I prefer to take it when we go camping or on any long road trip. I love this truck.
First new truck
The ride for such a large vehicle is not bad, and actually very serene with a load or while towing. Power is always available, although rear wheel spin is very easy to accomplish. 20" aluminum wheels are stunning, although I've already had a flat. Go for aftermarket tires, the stock ATX's are horrible. I had experienced steering wheel shudder at 300 miles too, but never again. Transmission adapted well to my light foot. Sirius radio is great on trips and worth it in mountains or where no radio. Brakes fade easily, be careful in rain. Towing mirrors are well worth the price, but do get knicked by other vehicles too often.
Laramie Quad Cab 1500
I'm a Chevy man but when I drove this truck I just had to have it. Fit, finish, performance are all excellent. Only minus is gas mileage.
It is what it is
I'm not too sure what this truck is suppose to be. A work truck, family truck, both? Either way, it is a decent truck. It's sticker was around $30,000 which I find way too high. The cab has plenty of room for rear seat passengers which it a big plus if you have multiple passengers. The bed is your typical bed. The engine is a little under powered in the 4.7. Hemi truck was way too high of a price. I would not lease this truck again because it's really not what I needed.
service dept. cannot find any problem ?
we purchased this truck, only 10,000 miles.does not do this all the time. in the last year have problem shaking, cold start, take off shakes really bad, than goes away, shakes more when we pull the boat, starts shaking when we take off then levels out? now shaking when we turn a corner hanna chryselr cannot find anything wrong, my warranty is about to expire,i even drove the truck in with the boat on it, and they could not get it to shake. could this be a tork converter? could this be the power steering is going bad?
Surprisingly good.
My use of this vehicle has been primarily short trips [all under 100 miles] and errands around town. It is great for hauling landscaping and building materials. The ride is great, performance unbelievable, and the fuel economy is significantly better than my wife's smaller SUV. The interior is quiet and comfortable. Creature comforts are more than I'd expect in a truck. The handling is better than I anticipated in a full sized four wheel drive truck.
Big Horn-4 Doors Does Not a Wimpy Truck
When my '99 Durango was closing in on the 70k mark and since I really and truly loathed the new style Durangos and had no need for 3rd row seating, a Quad Cab 4x4 would suit my needs just as well as my 'Rango plus w/Hemi power. It could be a blast. Keep in mind, in Aug of '05 I bought #2436 of '05s 4263 produced Rumble Bees. My Bee is a std cab and I didn't know if my 4 ft longer girl would meet expectations. This new Hemi MDS engine thing for '06-its a fallacy. I still get 24-26 on the hiway just like my Bee. I lucked out on price tho. $41k down to $29k because the guy who ordered her refused delivery- she's decked out like a Hemi Sport-Hood Scoop; skirts, and chromed to die for.
The Best!
I have owned a 2003 and 2004 Ram 1500. My new 2006 is a whole new feel. I loved my previous two Rams. I was a bit skeptical when I went to look at the styled Ram. The first glance of the totally redesigned interior really let me breathe easy. The fit and finsh really seemed to be there. The new front end design caught my eye as well. This new Ram rides a lot better than my previous Rams. Cab noise has been cut in half as was a problem with my 2004. I really enjoy the power of the Hemi. I had a 4.7 in my previous trucks. This engine was fine but a bit under powered for towing minimal loads. I went to the dealership to buy a Chevy and left with a Dodge. Overall I rate this truck a 10!!!
True Statement
I bought my truck in Texas when my old Dodge finaly died. The water pump went and I didnt have time to fix it. I was pulling a trailer from C.C. Tx to Las Vegas NV. I was already late getting to Las Vegas. That weekend I had stared on Friday and didn't get in till Tuesday. Driving to Las Vegas there are a few step hills and the truck had to shift down to a lower gear in order to complete the climb. I was pulling a 25 fifth wheel. The avg MPG was 12.3. Its not that bad but it could have been better. In city driving, the avg MPG is 11.5 Poor rating. I think truck manufactures need to do something about this. When in idle sitting at a red light take out a few cyclinders. We have ways to do it.
Three Years and still counting.....
Well here's an update on my Ram. I've now had it 37 months and 36,600 miles with no real problems.. I've had to take it in two times...Door mirror was loose and chrome grill peeling.. They replaced both parts. I changed the rear end to a 4.56 so my mileage dropped to 15 but I wanted her to pull and she does just that with the new gears. She pulls our 28' boat effortlessly now. Overall great truck and considering trading it in on a 2009 (my 6th Ram).
6 months with my new truck
I've really had a ball driving this truck. Wish I'd have opted for the nav pkg, but other than that it's perfect. Gas mileage has never gotten to the sticker of 14/18. I'm getting 13 to 14 mixed driving, did get 15.2 on a full tank of highway driving. I get lots of compliments on the vehicle as it's bright red with the 20" wheels so it has a great appearance. I've owned several trucks, this has been the best one.
Hidden Horrors
I love this truck. Not getting the MPG others brag about but acceptable. Very comfortable and easy to drive. Wife not afraid of it.
First Dodge
This is my first Dodge purchase. Really like the vehicle and room in the front and rear. Nice flip up back seat for storage.
Improved gas mileage!
I love my 5.7 liter Dodge. I have a single in dual out flowmaster and recently installed a cai and an exhaust cutout. It sounds mean! I am getting a total of 18.6 mpg highway. I got a total of 480 miles on a single tank of gas it was 90% hwy and the rest city. This truck rocks! It's far better than any 5.6, 5.4, 0r 5.3.
A Man's Truck
This is the first truck I've bought, and although my family farm has always had Dodge's, this one is easily my favorite. We have a 2500 Cummins and my brother in law has a 3500 cummins, and we've had nothing but good reliability and fantastic performance with them. My 1500 fits right in, and with its powerful 5.7 L Hemi can tow really whatever I need it to. I commute to college with it, and although it's fun to drive and looks great, it's not a commuter vehicle. Mileage is around 17 mpg total, not bad, but I hardly touch the pedal. Interior is fresh, clean, nicely done IMO, unlike Ford's whose interior is boring. Overall a great truck, if you need it! Otherwise, a great toy....
SLT 4X4 Quad Cab
This has been a great truck (going on four years ownership) and I would recommend to anyone. Never any major problems but I have kept up on maintenance. The only problem has been the air recirculation door for the A/C system (my mechanic says it is fairly common in this model) and unfortunately I found out about it 1,000 miles after my warranty expired. Gas mileage is OK (average about 15 mpg based on my combo of highway/city driving) but that's what I expected with a 5.7L/345 hp engine. The ease of flipping up the rear set allows for easy carting of cargo (mostly my Dobermans).
2006 4x4 QC, SB, Hemi DR
After 3000 miles this truck already proven itself more refined than my previous 2003 similarly equipped Ram. The interior noise levels are greatly reduced, the ride is 90% improved (feels "nervous" over small amplitude, high frequency inputs) over the previous chassis (2002-2005). The premium audio system has been worth the money and the new look, both inside and out, has won me over. One improvement often not mentioned are the new cloth seats. They are firmer, made of better material, and can be optioned with adjustable lumbar.
2nd Dodge, getting another
This is my 2nd Dodge truck. I had a 98 Dakota that was a great truck thru 85,000 miles when I sold it. I leased a 06 Ram after a fight with Ford over a lemoned F-150. I'm wrapping up my 2 year lease with my current Ram and wanted to express my feelings. I've had 1 issue with this truck, warped rotors. That is. No interior squeaks, no mechanical issues, nothing. It's been flawless and I'm actually in the process of buying a 08 right now.
Fantastic!
I love my Dodge Ram 1500. It is a really great truck. I bought mine with the Hemi and it's pretty impressive. I put a K&N air filter and a louder muffler on it and it sounds amazing. My only regret is the quad cab is small. I love the patriotic blue metallic paint, and hemi decals.
*** PERFECT TRUCK ***
I absoulutely love this truck. It's by far the best looking truck available and the Hemi is a must have. Yes, tires go bald quick but thats because this thing burns rubber when tapping on the gas. Mine is a powerhouse. The interior is very basic which I like. Its not like the Tian with buttons everywhere which means more crap to fix when it eventually goes up. Dodge makes a good truck here and thats a big statement for me, because I have always bought foreign vehicles, this is my first American made vehicle and I love it. I am hoping Dodge stays alive and the economy improves becuase the new ones look great as well.
