great lookin truck
I originally owned a 2001 ram sport for a short time then traded in for the new ram and have since been more than satisfied. The ride is smooth, the tranny feels great, and the 20" wheels really set off the look of the truck overall. And dont be affraid of getting the smaller 4.7 ... it has plenty of get up and go for anyone, I like mine a lot..
This truck fits
Steering – big improvement, and the manual transmission shifts nicely and has a decent set of ratios. The clutch is nice, too. The 4.7L engine is a good mate for this tranny, but it has a lower than expected toque feel at the lower rpms. No biggie, I just need to relearn the shifting and acceleration methods. Towers using this engine should try the higher ratio diff. The ride height is excellent. The shorter bed is an excellent comprimise with the rear cab space. The storage spaces are great - although the brochure is somewhat misleading - talk to your dealer. Driven 500 miles so far. Mileage: City ~15, hwy ~18 - better than EPA! It does not "feel" as large as it is.

Gas Hog
The gas milage is 12.2 with exclusively highway driving(really bad).Great truck, turns heads everywhere I go.The ride is great except for rear end skipping.I have almost been killed several times driving on downward grade, highway speeds, slightly wet surface, slight curve, hit a bump and I almost loose control.Otherwise I feel safe.Good power,I'm sure it tows well.Hard to manuever, need wide open spaces, not good for city driving.Lots of leg and head room.Power windows are really sloooow.Better off with the 4.7, get all disk brakes w/ABS.
2002 Ram 1500
After initial quality problems, steering column rattle, passenger heated and lumbar seat broke, serpenteen belt went, power winodws were extremely slow on passenger side, rear passenger power door lock did not work in cold weather...it is a good, not great truck. I had the 2001 Ram and the quality was better, however the ride on the 2002 is far better
used to be a chevy man
i used to be a chevy man but after our purchase of a 2000 z-71 and being in the shop every month... need i say more about that. our purchase of a 2002 ram quad cab 4wd leaves us to wonder why havent we been driving them alot longer. i just hope our next several years of useing this truck will be as pleasant as the first month.
Great truck
Great ride, great looking, great sounding: this is a TRUCK. I am in Texas and I purchased the Lone Star Edition which includes the 20" wheels. Gas mileage could be better, but it's not an issue with me. Everyone who rides the truck likes how high it is... Probably will get some step bars for my wife and others...
Awesome Truck
I just bought my truck last month and I love it. The only thing that I could say that I don't like about it is that it lacks good acceleration. Other than that I think I am going to be happy with my new truck. The new body style is a great change. The new front end makes this truck stand out above the rest.
Excellent Buy
If you're looking for a solid new truck this is the one...I love it and I'd recommend it to anyone for a new truck or a second. Four real doors and a lot of power, even for the new 4.7L V-8. I got to test-drive a comparibly equiped Chevy (with the 5.7 L V8) and it didn't drive as well mine, and the transmission whined a little too much for my liking.
Excellent
Thought when I first purchased that the 4.7L V8 engine would not tow my trailer. Wrong! This may not be a Hemi, but It performs well and has pickup. Interior design won out all other trucks I looked at. Warranty was good, but when I got a 84 month, 100,000 mile warranty fora little extra it kicks all over the other truck warranties....and NO DEDUCTABLE!!!
Rust flecks in white paint??
Love everything about the truck except for the lack of metal in the front. Also, there are little rust spots all over the truck in the white paint. Looks like there are tiny metal shavings in the paint. The silver paint along the bottom is unaffected.
Great Ram
Much improved from 1999 quad cab owned previously. 5.9 liter is still too hoggish on gas, mileage not up to par with rest of the truck.
Favorable- (first dodge)
2002 Silver quad cab SLT. 17 inch wheels Bought from brother in law with 18k miles. I have 30k on it now. I really like the under rear seat storage. more is better. Four full size/Fully opening doors. 4 Fully opening windows. The over all looks of the truck & the ride.
Dodge Ram Rules again!
I have the 20" wheels and no truck other than the 02 Ram looks right with large rims. The handling of the truck beats Ford and Chevy hands-down. The 4.7 V8 has plenty of "get in front of Ford" power.
Not gonna own it when the warranty is up
Never had so many quality problems with a new vehicle EVER! Never had so many recalls on a new vehicle either. Electrical problems galore, mechanical problems with engine, A/C compressor, side mirror, gauge cluster, computer, and others. Pretty truck when it runs, but I have no faith in it on the road.
Lovin' it!
I love this truck, pulls my Mastercraft like a dream. Looks great, always get lots of compliments on it. Love the storage in the back. Rides like a car and has much more room than the Ford and Chevy.
Bought it used
I'm not sure what to say other then get a warranty. I bought my Ram used and have had nothing but problems with it. I'm not sure if it was abused before me but is surley abusing me. I bought it with 47,000 miles and have replaced the motor, rear end, radiator, and now have to replace the AC condenser fan and a control module. The check engine light is on more then off. Love the truck but it is getting pricey to keep and the warranty which covers very little is almost up.
We Love It!!!
We bought our maroon quad cab in April, 2002 and it has been a wonderful truck for us. We have three sons ages 16, 14, and 10 and they all can ride very comfortably. It is the best riding truck we have ever owned. And the look is so stylish. Heads are always turning!!!
Love this truck
I definitely love my truck. It is quite comfortable except for the long reach to the radio from the driver seat. Plenty of extra creature comforts. Gas mileage is terrible, but it's a Quad Cab V8 5.9L truck. I didnt buy it to be a Toyota Prius. It has hauled and towed everything I have needed it to. Steering does make a funny noise, and just a little slip in the transmission at 60k. I would reccommend it for power over the F150's I've driven and for creature comforts over the Titan from Nissan.
dodge ram 4.7L
Overall a good truck. Just disappointed with the 4.7L engine. It has enough power but no acceleration when you want to drive for fun.
2002 Dodge Ram SLT SB 5.9L
Excellent vehicle, poor fuel economy
warped rotors
if you buy one the only problem you may have will be the rotors. the front rotors warp . mine warped 3 times since may, and it's only dec. for the 03 model year dc put out a fix but not for the 02 model. turning the rotors will cost about 50-60 bucks . the rotors where only covered for first 12000 miles. after that your on your own. get the dealer to replace em. that way they stay covered. turning them will work for a while.
Great Truck
Truck handles well, steering wheel feels good, and with the fully adjustable seats, the truck is easy to drive. It was a great looking truck when it was new and it still is the best looking truck out there.
My #2 Dream Truck
Even though we've only had the truck a few weeks, I have loved every minute of it. We've already put 1500 miles in 3 weeks on it. But, that's why we bought it. With 2 kids, I wanted it for the full 4 doors and the rear windows that roll ALL THE WAY DOWN. Performance is very good. It's much better than the Ford 4.6 V-8. The interior is much more comfortable than the Chevy. I'm a tall guy and it's much more comfortable than either the Ford or Chevy. I was raised a Ford Man, but I think I might have a new friend. For the money, this is the best deal on the road! SUV's, cars, trucks...this is the best deal.
good truck
easy acess under the hood.nice ride doesn't like bumps at higher speeds. seats need to recline all the way. when you open the doors snow falls on the seats. back seat good room,no head protection from rear glass.
Will dodge Dodge now
Almost immediately after the initial 3/36 warranty was up the dash cracked. Im not talking a small crack the dash looks like a mine field and is actually now in about 6 pieces. No problem since I purchased the 10 year/100K warranty. When I took the truck in I was told the dash is not covered since trim is not covered. (I dont feel the entire dash is trim). I was also told by the service manager that this is a problem they have never seen before, but they would see what they could do to help. The help turned out to be replace the dash with me paying for the parts at $600 each for the two parts! So I contacted Dodge and asked what could be done I googled Dodge truck dash cracks
Ouch
I finally got the opportunity to get a new body style when my '00 Dodge's engine was about to blow and got a decent deal on this '02 SB Quad Cab 4x4. Now, the head light switch has issues and I'm constantly "flashing" people unintentionally. Or, the parking and fog lights are constantly on. Sure I could get the $130 brand spanking new light switch. Then there's the issue of averaging 10 mpg with $3 gas, and a 30 mile commute each way daily. I will probably end up trading this truck in tonight for an Avalanche or Xterra. At least they average 16-18 mpg. Also, there is no real "frame" on this truck. There's a special towing hitch that you have to buy. I'd be scared to tow our Airstream with this.
Great Family Truck
My wife and I like this truck a lot. We are both over 6 feet tall and drove several SUV type vehicles. NONE had the room the RAM does, and it has a bed to boot. Great for the little woman to go out and bring home lots of stuff from local yard sales. I also feel a lot better knowing that our baby is being wrapped in American steel.
Good solid truck
The new Dodge Ram 1500 truck is a very solid truck. Most trucks in it's class do not match the stock height of the Ram 1500 4 X 4. I love the interrior of this truck. A few months ago I moved and the rear cargo area of the truck came in very handy because of the extra space in the back. She steel floor is great when folded down. This creats a flat surface, this way things are level and safe. Also if the rear passengers are over 6 feet long they have plenty of leg room in the back which Chevy,GMC and Ford do not have.
Perfect Vehicle for Me
I love this truck because it gives you the ability to haul stuff and/or people. Just this past week we had visitors in town and I can honestly say it fits six adults comfortably. Two days later I used it to haul an entire kitchen worth of cabinets. The 4.7 liter engine is a good trade-off between being powerful enough and economical. A few months ago we drove 1200 miles across country in this truck, it cruises down the highway very comfortably. The truck has about 60k on it and it made the 1200 mile drive home non-stop without trouble.
Big Red Ram
The big red ram I ordered is flame red and it is the best truck I have ever driven and I had a lot of gm products working for the city. The 5300 # beauty stands out every where and everybody that sees it stares or wants a closer look and says that its a beautiful truck. It rides like a limo and is very quick and nimble. Ken B
The Mayor
I have the Quad cab slt 2wd with the 4.7 engine. I have had great service from this vehicle. It dosen't even have any rattles. There is plenty of room in the cab for everyone. The under seat storage is great as well.I have the standard stereo with cd and it performs exceptionally well for a stock unit.I considered putting a different exhaust, but the factory exhaust has a great rumble to it,so no need to spend the $.I would change only 1 thing and thats the excelleration from zero to 60,but it's a truck not a sports car and I knew that when I bought it.Overall it's a great vehicle that is incredibly fun to drive.
A major kick-ass truck!
By far the absolute best truck I have ever bought! The ride is great on the highway and everyone gets out of my way when they see me coming.
Consider the gas
I have been very dissapointed in the gas mileage of this vehicle. The window sticker stated that it gets 14- 17 mpg. However, I get 11 mpg in town and only 13 on the Interstate. I would urge anybody considering this vehicle to make sure that they are willing to put that much money in with our current gas prices.
Female Road Warrior!
For my first pick-up truck I purchased the 2002 Dodge Ram Quad 4x4. No regrets - ITS A CLYDESDALE!! The best on the road. I'll never own any other kind of vehicle again.
best truck out
I had a 94 Dodge 1500 and purchased my 2002 Dodge Quad Cab due to reliability of my other Dodge. My friends have Chevys and Ford but their truck can not run idle in the Texas heat more then 2-3 minutes. Do their temperature gauges will be in the red, while the Dodge is still running normally.
A Perfect 10 Around The USA
Purchased the vehicle Feb 2002; I drove this new truck on a cross- country road trip starting in June 2002 which consisted of summer weather, 4 months constant driving, and 17,000 miles total trip. Midwest to New York to Miami, Miami to San Diego, San Diego up old Hiway 1 to Seattle, and back to the Midwest starting point. I purchased this truck new with 9 miles on it; it's red SLT Plus (now called Larmie) and had the Sport package (20" wheels). New retail price was $38,915; it had every option available. Other vehicles I own: Lincoln Navigator, BMW X5 and Mercedes S600. My favorite: The DODGE; why?...I had no problems with it what-so-ever. NONE!
Dont buy this truck
Where do i begin! Truck has constant shaking problems that the dealer claims they cant feel, windshield wiper flew off, stalling problems, two brake jobs before 30,000 miles, complete rear end overhaul, rear end jerks to the side when hitting bumps which makes highway driving fun when you have to do the two handed recovery, windows rattle when half way down, recalls, and finally the damn thing was stolen for those stupid 20" tires, I was praying for a torching but of course not!
Rusty Parts
I found rust on my vehicle after it was delivered to the lot. Apparently this Truck was sitting on a lot somewhere. The rear bumper was covered in rust on the underside. I did a little research and found out there was an undercoat issue from the supplier for the bumper. They were improperly undercoating the bumper, and the chrome ones are likely to rust. Likewise, the same individual informed me of problems with seals around the cab of the truck. Water was getting in on the early production of the 2002 models. Take a good look at your bumper, cause if it looked like mine, get them to put a new one on! Also I found various paint flaws on the vehicle.
Nice truck!! 02 Dodge Ram Quad SB 4x4
This is my 3rd truck, but my 1st Dodge. I have nothing but praise for this vehicle. Everything in it is easily found and usable the quality of this truck is the best american made I've seen yet. The ride is very smooth and tight for a large truck. The 4.7 engine pushes you around with no problem. Dodge has come along way with its product and I WILL HAPPILY BUY ANOTHER ONE.
2002 Dodge Ram Quad Cab Long WB SLT 5.9
I love this truck. Can't seem to stop driving it. Great big long white truck gets a lot of looks from just about everyone.
It just keeps on getting better
I really liked this truck when I first bought it. Now I look forward to every trip I take! This is one incredible piece of work. It had a ton of power, handles like a car and takes care of any load I can throw on it. I think I am going to take it for a spin right now!
work truck
My truck has been used to tow boats and cars to Florida and no matter the size the truck pulls it like it is empty
No Bowties
This is my 5th Dodge. This thing will pull the hinges off of the barn door and look great doing it. The ride is 100 times better than any "Z71" as you go around them in the mud to hook up the chains to drag them out. 90,000 miles so far and no problems. I tow a 31' travel trailer and it does the job. Mileage is 16-18 hwy, 15-16 combined 14-15 city, 7-11 towing (31' travel trailer)
Absolute Winner at 15k miles!
With 15k miles I have to say I am just as glad to own it as the day I bought it. It stops quickly, handles great, looks great, and best of all the only trip back to the dealership was for a defective side view mirror. I am really pleased with the mileage- with the manual tranny I get 17city and topped out at 21.5 on the highway.
In the shop more than on the road
Dealer ship great, service department great, parts supplier sucks. AC broke, side mirror recall, sensor recall, some other sensor replaced, headlights had problems, the rear axle broke under hard breaking on a gravel road, as of this review it has been 2 weeks and they still can't get a new wiper motor, fuel economy just keeps getting worse.
Tank Ram
Been driving this truck for 8 years and still do. It was my first car when I graduate from high school in 2004. My dad bought it from a salvage lot. The only reason it was there cause it was a stolen had the seats, wheels, and stereos. Everything else was there. I love how big it is and with 4.7 V8 love how it sounds. It just has 95,000 miles, mostly from my college days and I now use it for work which is less then 12 miles where I live. So far no mechanical problems. Overall I like this truck and will keep it until I grow old.
2002 Dodge Ram Sport
My experience has been very good. The only thing that needed service was a recall on the a/c blower motor wiring, outside mirror recall, and a hole was worn in the drivers seat where the lumbar support bar rubs the seat cover. Chrysler was nice enough to let me pay the full cost of this repair due to the mileage at the time of repair being 38000 miles(it didn't happen overnight). The seat cover back alone was approximately $400.00. All other experiences has been great.
If it got 30MPG I'd never buy another car
Was hesitant to purchase vehicle in June of 2006 with 123K on odometer. However, I have driven it like it was new (trailering and offroading) and it doesn't skip a beat. Though it doesn't deliver awesome acceleration, it will tow up to its capacity without a problem. The only thing that I don't like about the vehicle is the rear end suspension. It does not adequately dampen bumps and the rear end can get squirrelly at both low and high speeds (can be a little unnerving on the highway). Great looking vehicle. Mine is black with the sport package (all black, no chrome) and 20" wheels. I get compliments all the time about how cool my vehicle looks.
You can't beat this Monster
I purchased this truck last year and have loved it since. Yes it may not be the best gas getter vechicle out there, but come on, it's a truck. It's not a sports car so don't expect it to accelerate like one. Would you buy a Corvette and tow a boat with it? If you want a truck that is all truck, this is the one for you. I have never had one problem out of it, but I change the oil every 3k miles and the air filter every 7.5k miles.
Beautiful Truck, gas guzzler
Sport is a beautiful truck and excellent ride with 20' wheels. Interior is spacious with quality materials, excellent heater and A/C. Short Bed adequate. I have towed up to 3,000 pounds (boats, snow machines, 4- wheelers) with no problems. Works hard when using a truck camper. Horrible gas mileage with 5.9L unleaded. Only 12-13 mpg on highway and can drop to 9 mpg when carrying truck camper.
