Great Truck
Bought my truck brand new in 1999, truck has performed awesome! 4x4 is fantastic in the snow, handles great. truck has 158,000 miles now with no issues other than regular maintenance like brakes, battery etc. clear coat failed but that's not Dodges fault!!! this truck was my 3rd ram and two weeks ago I just bought a 2015 ram 1500 and absolutely love it!! This has been an amazing truck...durable...rides great..never left me walking. I will always recommend a dodge truck to anyone who asks!

257,000 and still running great
Bought it at 250,000 thought I was an idiot but it was the exact opposite. I live in Texas and like to fish a lot so the terrain gets rugged. The 4x4 works great, does kinda stick a little but it'll still go in gear after I put it back in 2WD then crank it back to 4x4. Haven't had any issues with it since I've had it besides general maintenance except for the passenger window motor going out. Other than that it was a great buy. I've never had a problem towing or hauling either. Gas mileage city blows but I don't drive that much during the work week so I only have to throw in $30 every two weeks or so.

Love this old truck
I bought this truck almost 18 years ago. Has it's quirks (have to learn to work the tranny manually so it doesn't search for power). 318 is a rock solid engine, always starts, always goes. 3.55 gearing and automatic overdrive make highway cruising around 70 mph at 1700 rpm effortless. One ongoing issue throughout the years has been the old cap and rotor setup. Seems to wear out and crack every 30000 miles or so. This results in poor running on very wet or rainy days. Steering wonder has always been an issue. Watch for rust on trucks of this year that's the real killer. All new trucks (as you would expect have surpassed it in tech. That being said for a light duty truck it has and continues to be a great asset. Does all the things a truck should do at a fraction of the cost of a new vanity "lifestyle truck". If you are looking for a good old work truck or just like trucks, I would say buy one.

RAM TUFF
this vehicle is the best that I have ever had to , pull my 22' boat to pulling tree stumps out with.
Ram Tough
Bought a 1999 Sport model with the 5.9L with 135,000 miles. Never had a truck before, but I love this vehicle. I'm a bigger guy and I have more than enough room. This truck is the definition of toughness. I like to take it off-roading and it handles itself very well. Best looking truck on the road too, in my opinion. That 5.9L V8 is a beast too. Love when I step on the gas and hear that engine roar. The 4X4 works extremely well too. Where I live, we get pretty deep snow and I've never once gotten stuck in 4WD. Overall a great truck and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a stylish, powerful, roomy pickup. Will look to buy another one when this one dies on me.
1999 Dodge Ram Sport
I bought this truck with 110,000 miles, and whoever owned it before me neglected it like no other. After about $1500 in parts and labor, I can honestly say I wouldn't trade it for the world. I'm 24 and have had 17 trucks since I've been 17. Yeah, the gas mileage stinks, but what do expect when a truck is modeled after a big rig? These trucks weren't made to be espically comfortable either, they were built to get the job done. I cant remember any other half ton truck that came with a solid front axle in 99.
Good Used Ram
Bought used with 95,000 miles. No problems, so I deceide to invest a little $$$ for the next 100,000 miles. Tune up $100: plugs, wires, rotor & cap. Exhaust: $700 new cat converter, O2 sensors and exhaust. High flow air intake, $120. Bed liner: $100. Fluid Exchanges $200: oil, coolant, Trans/filter. Molded floor mats: $80. This truck hasn't given me a lick of trouble and now gets 15mpg city & 18.5mpg hwy with the 360. Will take on first tow trip trip to NM in 2 weeks. Not worried. Lots of room, comfortable ride, quiet for a truck & hauls everything I need.
1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport SLT SB Reg Cab
Brakes need improvement (model w/o anti-lock). Good pickup, reliable, dependable...good value.
Dependable machine
My dash has never cracked! (must be that armor all hahaha) I bought this truck because of the way it looked back in 2001, big and mean. Very reliable truck, she has always gotten me back home, not afraid to go driving long distance. regular maintenance goes a long, long way. The only major repair I had to do was the torque converter (replaced with aftermarket high stall) and added a transmission cooler because the transmission started acting up at around 120k and haven't had any problems since. Strong 5.9 magnum will spin 35's no problem and still have lots of horses left to pull that moose out. Next truck will definitely be another Dodge whenever this one goes, not for a long time.
Great truck
Bought from my next door neighbor with 100k on it, has 105k on it now. He kept great maint records and always followed oil changes, tuneups and fluid changes, as I have since I bought it. No problems except and transmission valve went out, $15 part and 10 minutes to replace! Would drive it anywhere.
Huge Mistake On This Purchase
I bought this truck new in 1999 and have had nothing but problems from day one. I had 4,200 miles on it and the serpintine belt failed. I have replaced the intake gasket, all the u-joints,front wheel bearing, brake lines, idler pully, another serpintine belt, the fuel pump is going out,cat conv, front speakers, has a broken latch on inside quad doors, headlights get water in them,,trans slips, replaced speed sensor, replace trans pan rust caused a hole, clear coat on roof is gone. i have 83,000 miles on this truck and I would never buy a Dodge truck again.Note to owners on the auto-trans, put in (nuteral) and run for 2 min before driving the torque conveter drains fluid while sitting and ruins trans.
My experience
I bought my truck new and used it in my construction business. I never (!) had a problem in 76,000 miles of Alaskan driving. No squeaks, leaks, mechanical problems, or anything else. But I sadly sold it when I retired and moved overseas....cheap living now. I have owned 5 Dodge trucks and have been more than satisfied. But the gas mileage stinks.
Can't keep the RF wheel on
Right front hub failure twice. Dodge won't own the problem. Very dangerous to drive. A/C leaks. Electrical system stinks. Will NEVER purchase another Chrysler product.
shoulda bought a ford
Replaced tranny at 60K. Cost over $3G by the time it was all said and done. Air conditioning is out. Spent $400 on oxygen sensors. 4wd sensor is out. Antilock brake sensor went out. Cruise control went out.
Dodge auto trans - not good.
Bought new. The v8's ok but drinks gas. Pings like heck - higher octane minimized that problem. Manual says 87 octane and pinging is ok. No other problems for first 3 yrs. Trans broke right after time limit on warnty, but less than 35k miles. Long story short, Dodge agreed to pay for parts, I paid the balance, which was more than half of the $1800 repair. Now my tie rods, pitman arm, and idler arms need to be replaced as garage is unable to align the truck as is.
No Lag and No Rag
I just bought a 1999 Dodge V8 Magnum 1500 4x4 Lariam Single Cab with 126,500 miles on it and it turns up without any hesitation.Has a minor oil leak on the Rear Main Seal but also has the Power/Torque to burn the new 32 1/2 inch Mud Tires off of it.The front dash is cracked a little and there are some exterior issues (such as scratches, dings, and some sag in front bumper) but I'm not trying to impress anyone with the looks of my truck, just the toughness.

Fun to drive, but high maintenance
I bought this truck because I love the look, the power, and the sound. It seemed to drive well, and the interior was spotless. So it went home with me. Then it began. I had to replace all of the brake hardware at the wheels, O2 sensors, cat convertor, full tune up, idler pully, belt, etc. I did this all myself, fortunately. Then, the track bar and a tie rod end was bad. I replaced them. Next, the transmission went. The rebuild was about 2500 bucks. Fortunately I bought an extended warranty, which paid for itself 3x over. So I basically have a new truck. A lot of this stuff could be expected at the age, other things not. I still love the truck and plan on keeping it a long time.
Poorly made interior
Transmisson problems, dashboard cracked to pieces, paint on the hood and roof lost clearcoat and started to rust, catalytic converter had to be replaced...besides that, nice truck. Buy at your own risk
Mopar or No Car!
Bought my '99 Ram 1500 a little over 7 years ago. First time ever buying "my own" rig, knew what I wanted - searched a couple of impatient months to find it. Got my Mopar with 116k on the odometer, 5.9L upgrade, lift, flat satin black single cab BEAST! Hands down best purchase I've ever made, period! In the last 7 years, I blew apart my rear u-joint at 70+ mph down the highway - it actually flew past my driver window, rear drive line landed on my rear axle after a bit of bouncing around. Threw it right back in same day with a new u-joint, never even had to balance the drive line. Also replaced the auto trans (it's expected at some point with a Mopar, common knowledge) with a custom pink remanufactured trans that will now outlast the engine I'm sure, lol.) Only two problems in 7 years, and I'm not nice to my truck - besides routine maintenance that is. The best part..? The looks on the guys' faces as I pass them by and they see the neon pink biohazard stickers on each side of my back window and realize they just got passed by a girl! M.o.p.a.r = Move Over People Are Racing!!! Yes it's my Dodge, NO you can't drive it!!

Stay Away From This Truck
I bought this 5.2L truck used with 14,000 miles for $14,000. I loved it until it had about 70,000 miles on it. Now it has 111,00 miles on it and the following has had to be replaced: plenum/intake gasket, clutch, tie rods, ball joints, catalytic converter, heater core, main computer, brakes and rotors (three times), steering damper, and shocks. It now needs the front and rear transmission seals, and new front wheel bearings. It is parked until I can sell it. I have always maintained this truck and never really hauled anything with it. I expect a bit more life than this for the money I pay. Shy away from this one.
1999 Dodge 4x4 rating
I bought this truck in 2002 w/40,000 miles on it, and the transmission was slipping the day after I got it, replaced brake lines, coil, crank sensor, battery, transmission, intake gaskets, water pump, rear u-joint, front axle u joints 3 times now, replaced front seals 2 times and they still leak, truck will not run more that 10 minutes when it snows, and once a week or so, the truck will not start, cranks though, repaired door locks/latches, replaced caliper, brakes 3 times front and 1 on rear brakes, delayed wipers stop on middle of windshield, Dash board cracked, light on key switch would not turn off-had to pull bulb, upper compartment on ceiling broke easily, muffler been rusted out 5 y
You get what you pay for
This truck has left me stranded more than any other vehicle i have ever owned. The transmission went out at 94,000 miles. I have also had a lot of electrical problems which left me on the side of the road, but once i got these problems worked out it actually isn't that bad of a vehicle. It has plenty of power for towing.(I use it to tow my 86 mustang). The dash is HORRIBLE. This thing cracked in so many different places and has HUGE holes in them.
Mopar or NO car
Got this Truck in trade 5.9 engine is old school push rod love my (360) I like my dumb push rod engines over the overhead cam VVT now days you cant rebuild any engine unless you want to spend $$$$$ anyways the intake plenum pan gasket leaks vacuum in the lower crank case it's a $0.50 cent gasket sucks have to pull the intake I replace the pan gasket & front timing cover gasket and chain set and the water pump rubber elbow cost $150 PARTS now it last another 164k

Dodge This
Very high mantainence cost. Over $3000.00 in 3 years and now the bearings are shot add yet another $4200.00 Response from Chrysler Corp. "Sorry we can't help you"
BUTT KICKIN TRUCK WITH CAR FEEL!!!!
This truck has been the best I have ever owned as far space, ride, comfort, and performance...It really stacks up...The interior is of good design and good comfort. This truck is comfortable for long road trips or for towing a boat, I have not had 1 issue with this truck, except the oil needs changed...I hope the car I am switching too even compares to my truck, I am going to miss it.
Good Truck
I bought the truck new in 99 and have had good luck with it. I use it to pull a 3,000lbs boat all summer and do some intense off roading when ice fishing. I have had some warranty work for the intake manifold gasket and have changed brakes and tires from normal use. The suspension seems to be a bit soft as it sometimes will bottom out with load in bed and steering seems to have some extra play in it. The truck overall has performed good and has been reliable. I have always liked the styling which was the deciding factor to buy.
best truck i"ve ever had
i bought this truck as a family vehical.after 1 year of having the truck i started my own landscaping company. it had to do the job of a bigger truck. i pulled a 7600lb skid loader 6 days a week, not counting the trailer and 1500lb rake attachment.we just got another truck to do the towing, but still use the truck. it took us 3yrs.to get another truck.never a problem with this 1500.
Warning when buying used!!!
My girlfriend bought this truck out of impulse at a used car leader. It looks really good. But there are a number of things wrong with it and she has only driven it for 20,000 miles. it now has 171000. The transmission had to be replaced at ~160,000 which is really good for that transmission. Unfortunately the transmission is going out again. Also has an exhaust leak, heater core went out and doesn't have a block heater (which stinks in Montana weather) This winter the gas lines froze so don't forget to put Heat in the gas. The four wheel drives sticks really bad too. Just a warning for this year truck. Transmission usually go out between 50,000mi to 120,000mi.
Take your chances
The 4WD works. This vehicle has never left me stranded and has always started. Transmission sounds like a handfull of nuts & bolts in a clothes dryer when engaging reverse. Huge oil consumption problem and spark-knock under most any kind of load. It uses a quart of oil at every other tank of gas in city driving and a quart of oil every tank-ful on the highway. The dealer re-set the computer to reduce the spark-knock but caused the 5.9 litre V-8 to behave like a slant six. There is rust beginning to show on the bottom edge of the doors and on the rear bumper. Like anything else in today's disposable society, pay your money and take your chances.
Reliable Truck
Purchased new to tow 3600lbs boat. Traveled to KS, TN, KY, VA, FL inside of 2 weeks and really enjoyed the trip. Great power, acceleration, and pulls like no other truck I've owned. A smooth ride on the Michelin tires; not so using Bridgstone AT. Dash top cracked after about 5 years. Minimum worrisome problems with regular maintenance performed. I did rebuild transmission at 84k; replace A/C system at 79k. Now I feel confident it is good for several more years and another 80k miles! Yes - I would buy another one.
She's a great looking pig!
terrible gas mileage. Problems with A/C. Needs a new evaporator. owners manual states it will run fine on regular fuel 87 octane with minor pinging. The truck PINGS like Crazy on regular fuel! ( engine is a 318 V8 )
Unreliable and under powered - don't buy
Unreliable I now have 46K miles on my '99, and I have already had many problems, including engine gremlins causing it to run on only 7 cylinders, steering linkage replaced, rear end leak fixed, brakes replaced. Current problems are a transmission bushing ($1800), power steering pump on the way out ($??), and rust on the bottom edge of the tailgate and doors ($700). Under powered - The 318ci can barely drag itself up even modest hills. Forget hauling or towing, though I have frustrated myself trying. Forget cruise control in the hills or the truck will shift itself to .
Love My Ram
I bought this truck wondering if the Dodge stigma was still holding. After 100000 miles, the only things I have had to replace are the tires, brakes and the AC clutch. This truck has done every thing I have asked of it.
99 ram
i like the way my truck looks, drives and handles. just dont the gas mileage
Good basic truck
My ST has the 318 5spd and had been a great basic truck so far. The 5-speed helps with the gas mileage and avoids some of the nasty transmission problems with the Dodge automatics. I too have the spark knock on heavy acceleration with load, which can be improved with premium fuel every now and then. This is a solid no frills truck with 160K on it and likley many more good KM to go.
Good Ride!
Bad: Fuel econ w/ 5.9 lt. Chry dealerships. Low stock HP @ 245. Good: Ride. Room. Overall design. The only old trucks you see here in the Rust Belt that are not a pile of rust after 8 years are Dodge Rams.
One great truck
Only 17 years old and bought the truck last month. 160,000 miles on it and it runs great. A lot of power, and can tow my pop's 28 ft boat with ease. It's hard on gas, that's it. Rides nices too. Just hope the tranny wont go like people say.
What a Dream
Bought this vehicle with 26,000 miles on it. Best truck I have ever owned! Have had no problems with transmision or engine. The power driver seat has enough options to give a very comfortable ride. Looking forward to many more years of great service from this vehicle.
EXCELLENT CHUNK OF METAL--AWESOME!!!!
This is one great truck, and i bought it on ebay, from a dealer though. Great look and feel.
Dodge Trucks
It has been one of the best trucks I have ever had and I have had a lot of trucks. Also it is real reliable it can pull almost everthing and I have never had a problem with it.
Not bad
I bought this truck used in 2004 with about 49k on it. It's been a decent truck, but has no creature comforts at all, if that's important to you. It has decent power, but the suspension is pretty stiff, and I had to replace a head gasket. All in all, I'm not sure I would buy another Dodge.
First American Truck!
Though I've only had it for a few day's -Love it !! Great to have V8 power again!! Haven't had a V8 since I sold my old '69 Firebird. I didn't realize how much I missed it. So nice not to have people passing you going up in to the mountains, like your standing still.
3 1/2 Years and Going Good
Truck has been overall reliable with only problems being pinging, squeaking (axel seals), and failed light switch. The pinging was fixed with different plugs. I had the axel seals removed under warranty. It is still the best looking truck on the road and mine has been just as reliable.
I'm happy with this old Ram!
Okay, it obvious, this Ram is not going to give you great gas mileage. But to be honest this vehicle is not giving me much less than my 1999 Ford Windstar! I sold my 2006 Mazda5 to get this Ram (the M5 was too small for us and the gas mileage was eved worse!) This model seems to turn heads! Many people think it looks great. I have to agree. When I purchased this truck in late October 2006, my mechanic noted that there were no big problems. Not bad considering the mileage! There's more than enough room in our Sport model to take the the kids and their instruments to lessons.
1999 Dodge Ram Used
This is a cool truck
A Nice Truck...For Looks That Is
Overall not a bad truck. Good for light duty work like hauling a few things on the back...but definitly not ideal for towing. Our struggles accelerating when pulling a trailor (probably because the truck is so heavy and lacks the power it needs to make up for the heavy body).
Never buying a Dodge Again!
It's a pretty looking truck, but that is all it is! We have had SO many mechanical problems with this truck that never again will we be purchasing a Dodge. At not even 48,000 miles, this year we had to have the transmission rebuilt. And all we do is drive the truck to work and back, no hauling, not hard on it at all. Each year something major seems to happen to it. This year alone we have spent over 3,000 on this stupid pos, the worst part about it is that we did a 5 year lease and can't get rid of the darn thing until next year when our lease is up!!!!
1999 Dodge Ram
Other than the well known cracked dashboard syndrome these trucks inherited, I love my truck. Must have cat back duel exhaust. The sound and performance gain is well worth the $300. A truck that never failed me yet up here in upstate NY(knock on wood)
Fun stuff
This truck has been awesome. Taken it off roading, had to pull others out, and tows awesome. I use this truck to go to work, school, and travel. Only flaw is that it uses too much gas, but it has a lot of power so I guess that's where the gas goes. That, and also because of the gear/axle ratio.
