180,000 miles and still running strong

I bought the car with 145000 miles on it, and all I had to replace was the head gasket. I bought some performance struts and lowering springs. The car carves corners like nothing. With only 132 hp, the car is pretty quick. I haven't had any problems with this car and I plan to own it all the way to 200,000 miles! My only complaints are that it leaks oil, and the brakes stink, but upgrade them and it shouldn't be that big of deal. I love my Neon!

The Neon is not a great car, however, for cheap transportation you can't beat it. Really, you can't beat it or it will break. but once you get used to the poor acceleration, which is a lack of low end torque, it's an alright car to drive because it handles amazingly well. If you like to zig-zag in traffic, this car can be fun. The brake are kind of crappy, so watch out. And the car, not just as a domestic but rather as a Dodge, tends to break down a lot. I got the sport and blew a water pump as soon as I got it. Now the brain and the fuel pump have gone out, and it's really not worth the fix. Good luck and God bless.

Great car for a cheap price

Great car for a cheap price. I purchased this car with 27K miles, now I have over 200,000 miles and it is still going strong. I have changed the head gasket once and had to replace a faulty turn signal switch, other then that, it has been a very solid car. Of course I change the oil on time and keep the tires in good shape. I still get over 35 miles per gallon on the freeway. My only complaint is the paint. It fell off in large chunks because of a bad base coat. I have asked the dealership to repaint it, but they refused. Hay, it only looks bad for Dodge, I do not care. I still drive this car about 1500 miles a month.

Head gasket went after 38K, A/C repaired in 3rd year, electrical problems with signal lights, then radio. Paint pealing off roof and both wiper arms had paint peeling and they both have broken. On the highway the windows scream. Weather stripping around doors and trunk were coming off. Piece of crap!

The Neon is not reliable

Having purchased my '95 Neon with only 1200 miles on it made me feel like I was buying it new. But this ended about 2 years later, when the $5500 bills for transmission repair/replacement began to pile up. I recently put an additional $500 in repairs into the car, but it didn't help my "lack of acceleration" problem. The brakes are extremely loud and give way too easily. The rear speakers haven't worked since 1998. I will never buy another Neon.

The dodge neon was designed to be a cheap car and it is. I have paid for the thing numerous times in repairs, and I find it spending more time on jack stands than on the road. Unfortunately I have learned alot about cars since I could never keep this thing running. If you were to consider a neon I would say at least 2000 or new, that is when Dodge finally got their act together. Overall this car is garbage and I would never recommend this thing to anyone unless you want lots of mechanical experience.

well, I bought this car with 103000 miles, big mistake. I should have not gotten american I4 with that manys on it. It was OK at first. Then one thing happened after another. First had to replace 2 O2 sensors ($150 each). Then back drums went out($250). then all 3 engine mounts went out ($450 all replaced). I heard from a Dealer's parts department "Neons don't last after 100,000 miles. Stupidest car dodge has made in a long time." so now I think I'm goin to go get what seems the best I4 out there, Honda Civc

Bought brand new because it was much more powerful and fun to drive than the Civic, Saturn, Escort and Tercel we also tested. My wife drove daily over 100 miles into the CA desert with no problems. Last year the paint began peeling from the roof and truck, looks bad but Dodge says not warranted. I change the oil every 3K and trans fluid every 50K and had my first problem this year at 125K miles, a leaky sending unit for the oil (~$50 I think) and needed a new lower engine mount. Honestly, I am ready for something different; it looks rough, but the car just keeps going. Have heard reports of head gasket probs; Mexican builts and DOHCs?

It's A Great Little Car

I bought my 95 Neon sport with 17k miles in 1995 and it now has 200,000 miles. I replaced the timing belt twice as well as a water pump and O2 sensor and nothing else. I am still driving with the original clutch. Of course I did tune ups, brake jobs and performed basic maintance. The car has been one of the most reliable cars I've owned and has always been a blast to drive. I would not however recommend the automatic. I don't understand why this car has such a poor resale value and poor reputation. It certainly exceeded my expectations in every way.

A terrific car that endured a hard life

This was one of the most fun, well-balanced cars out there if you got a stick-shift. The automatic turned it into an econobox, but with the stick, it was a really well-balanced car for fun driving. Great mileage, an interior about the size of a Camry, and total reliability even though we had it running mainly on NYC and Jersey City streets really impressed us.

Not that great of a car

I bought my Neon with somewhere around 62,000 miles, which at the time seemed great. But the car leaked massive amounts of oil, and the speedometer broke and would come on and off while driving(so my Neon still has around 62,000 miles). The longer I had the Neon the worse the problems got. Often on the freeway ramp the car will take a long time to shift into a higher gear, forcing me to merge with free way traffic at 45mph. I've taken mine to the shop to repace 02 sensor, head gasket, and just recently the wiring to the computer. I have had the Neon die on me while driving in traffic a number of times (which is both embarrassing and scary). I am done with Neons, they require too much up keep.

I have had a 1995 Dodge Neon Sport since 1995. It now has 75,000 miles on it. It has fit every stage of my life perfectly, trunk was big enough to accomodate several moves, back seat has enough room for two large adults to sit comfortably. I have had CEOs in my car and received compliments. It has never been in the shop and I have had ZERO small problems (squeeks, rattles, etc.) Car has a surprising amount of power.

My wifed owned for 8 years (purchased new) and NEVER had any problems with this car. Althought this isn't the safetest car on the road today, it did hold up well on 5/12/03 when she was broadsided by a new Ford Windstar Van...thank God nobody was hurt !!! Now she wants another one...that says something for this little car.

I've owned the car for about 4 months now and there are several problems that have driven me crazy trying to fix. All the seals on the windows are shot. My backseat carpet is constantly soaked. Reverse stalling.. sometimes in reverse the thing stalls. Struts gave out after 1 big bump! Annoying stereo setup (maybe not factory.. not sure about this) What I liked about this car. Very reliable. Nice gas mileage. Easy to fix. Fun to drive (especially on straightaways) Very good oil consumption...about 1/2 a quart every month keeps it at nice levels even with me beating the crap out of it. No broken lines yet. such as the brake, gas, or any others

I bought this car from a family member and have been happy with it. It hasn't been in the repair shop in 7 years except for routing maintainance. Totally reliable. It developed a leaky trunk but I fixed it myself in about 10 minutes. It also has an oil leak (116,000 miles). The Neon has lots of power and a relatively good handling and comfort. Over 30 mpg.

The Dodge that just won't die

Slim, 12/07/2016

So for my 16th birthday i bought this little car for $1,000 and i still own it 3 years later. I have done nothing but rallied, abused, and thrashed this car. The thing refuses to die. Its got about 180,000 miles on it and the engine still runs strong. The only thing that i have replaced it the radiator and recently the transmission. The radiator went out due to jumping railroad tracks and achieving about 8" of clearance under every tire. The Neon has a automatic transmission, and i speed shift the crap out of it, and thats why i had to replace it. I blew a 4" hole in the top of the tranny puking all my fluid all over the road, so i pulled over and put some 10W30 mother oil in the hole and drove it for 2 more days like that until the bottom of the tranny blew out with all my gears. I did a tranny swap and i continue to use this car to drive from Eugene Oregon to Vancouver Washington( about 154 miles). Best little car ever.

This car is a TURD. . . Shakes Rattles & Rolls along the road. I bought it for basic trans for work. Paid 2K for it with 47K miles. Every two weeks I have to add 2-3 quarts of oil, it's quite embarassing. Somehow this car manages to start & drive me at anytime anywhere. I've driven this car hard for 8 months & 20K miles and It's been pretty reliable.
