Nice Car - If You Can Get It Started
For some reason, after passing the 50,000 mile mark, the 2009 Journey decides if and when it wants to start. Dealers have numerous guesses - most of which make no sense - but no one seems to have found a permanent solution. Dodge doesn't seem to care if the owners are satisfied or not. They have known about this problem for several years and have offered no ideas. The dealers will tell you that their computer has determined that your battery is bad - even if you just spent several hundred dollars replacing it. In most cases it isn't the battery. For some reason the anti-theft starter lockout system engages and the starter will not operate. Another problem (in my estimation) is visibility. The windshield pillar/outside rear view mirror location combination allows for a significant blind spot where whole cars can disappear. The very large mirror (great size!) housing should be suspended from the top instead of the bottom. Mirror would still provide excellent vision to the rear of the car and it would substantially decrease the size of that blind spot. Bottom line is that the car is above average in almost everything including the frustration it causes the owner because of the unreliability issue. I suspect the resale value will come up quite a bit if the starting problem is ever solved. THANKS DODGE FOR MAKING A VERY NICE VEHICLE THAT BECOMES USELESS AFTER 50K MILES!

Leaves me stranded with two kids
I bought my Journey in March 2009. I had no problems for about a year but I did not put many miles on it that first year. Then I had the brake problems like everyone else. Here is my big problem. Sometimes my car just wont start. I had the battery replaced and all was well for about a month. Now it has started up again. I got stuck at the mall last night. Also, we have had a leak in our raditor hose. My car almost over heated not too long ago. We used that stuff the clogs the hose and it has held so far. Anyone have any problems like this?

LOL. THIS CAR IS A JOKE....!!!!!
TODAY is 02-01-1218... owned this Journey sense new, bought it in 2009. it has 85000 miles on it. since I bought it its had the top end replaced 3 times including heads, roller rockers, and fuel injection. YESTERDAY I paid another $2,200 bucks on repairs!!! replaced the breaks 2 time, battery is in wheel well making it a interesting job changing it, the dealer GLOAKs if they get to charge u $400 bucks in labor to change it. the cost to have the dealer change the timing belt is $1800 bucks.. the recalls never end!!! AND YES DODGE HAD TO PAY ME $3600 IN LEMAN LAW FINES.. NOW IN COMPAIRISON TO A 1989 Toyota pickup I bought new and kept for 14 years and 140,000 miles on it, total cost for repairs during the 14 years I had it was no more then a grand including timing belt, shocks and breaks. AND THATS IT!!! NOW rumor has it Dodge has upgraded the engine and fixed a few internal flaws. plus I do like the car, its nice to drive and love the radio and the stuff on the radio. and also if your engine light pops on and it appears that nothing is wrong, disconnect the battery and let the computer reboot. its a constant thing with mine. do that before you take it to the repair shop, could easy save you a bunch on diagnostic check>>>>.... THIS IS ONE PERSONS RATING AND OPINION.. all my life I had bought and owned new vehicles. this Dodge Journey is the by far the worse and most expensive vehicle to maintain.. if you buy one make sure you get 2 loans. one for the buying the vehicle the 2nd for repairs... THATS IT IN A NUT SHELL!!!!!

Great price
The engine is fine getting around with amazing jump and even highways but when in upstate New York and the steep hills, I had to hold the pedal to the floor to get decent pick-up. Handles great on sharp turns. Radical gated shifter that leans down when in park is the easiest gated shifter to use and does not move into another gear if hit into easily. Interior is amazing with the YES essentials stain resistant cloth and DVD players and built-in booster seats. Great value and looks
Overall.. Great?
We bought our 09 journey in september of 2016 from a crappy dealer outside Pittsburgh, KS. The car had 6 previous owners, almost 100,000 miles, 2 accidents, an aftermarket stereo and it needed a new battery, tires, and the keyfob was broken. upon seeing the car for the first time, i was immediately in love. (i knew then i was crazy for buying it, but i didn’t care) it had a biohazard sticker on the window and it looked like someone bled all over the beautiful “yes essentials, road trip seats.” we drove 100 miles home and the electrical system failed. we did a full detail on the interior and exterior and my love for the car grew and grew. Now, almost one year later, the car is 8, has 60,000 miles more on the odometer than when we got it. and we haven’t had to do any major maintenance at all. just minor things that every car has to have done. the styling is absolutely amazing, and has so many cool features. it serves its purpose in every way and much more.
