A definite step up

I have three boys under 8 and this is a definite step up from our Ford Taurus. We have so much room and the kids love it. We can go places now that we never could in the car with the 5 of us. I come from a solid Ford family, but Ford could not match what Dodge could offer in the Grand Caravan. Even dad (Me) likes to take it for just running errands and don't feel girly. Ford who??

Our third Dodge Minivan. This continues to be the best designed minivan in the marketplace. Dramatic pricing discounts help ease the low- resale pain. Reliability has not been an issue for us. We enjoy the convenience front to back that this well-designed vehicle offers. Ride is quite nice, quieter than past models. Extra storage throughout is a plus.

Sticking wtih Chrysler

After all the Honda Odyssey hype, I decided to stick with Chrysler/Dodge when it came time to replace the old minivan (replaces an early 90s Grand Voyager). $3500 in incentives and my company's fleet pricing on Chrysler products outweigh the reported reliability advantage of the Honda. I guess I can pay now or pay later. I opted for later. Grand Caravan SXT is very roomy and has a more functional interior that my old minivan or the Odyssey IMHO. The kids love it.

Wanted an SUV -- sold on this minivan

After years of SUV ownership due to large family size, I went to trade into a new SUV with all the huge rebates and literally stumbled upon this minivan. The color (Inferno Red) caught our attention, and as the dealership was out of not only 2005 SUvs, but 2005 everythings went for a test drive. Still got an excellent price and was able to trade out of TWO cars I was "upside down" thanks to late night, weekend shopping and a hungry salesman. I cannot believe I have never owned a Chrysler product before! The fit and finish is excellent. My neighbor just laid out almost $40K for an Odyssey with no power liftgate, stow and go seats, and only leather and a DVD more than my van. I paid $22K.

Everything but the engine

After 60K miles, we're not either happy or unhappy with the van. We've liked the room, the stow'n'go, and have had no major maintenance problems (engine/transmission/steering etc). However, we have had issues with things like both power sliding doors (38K miles), a/c not working properly(52K miles), radio/cd/tape not working (40K miles), and recently the rear liftgate latch appears to be hanging. We've been disappointed with the fuel economy, averaging about 19 mpg overall (mostly highway), and high quoted repair costs, and very low quoted trade- in values ($8-9K after 3 years on a $23K van). Overall, a very mixed bag. Unlikely to repeat the purchase.
