Used 1999 Dodge Durango Consumer Reviews
Been good to me
I leased my Durango in Sept of '99. It was a dealer demo. I had a lot of problems with the dealer during/after the sale & they 'forgot' to mention some details about buying a dealer demo vehicle. Overall I am very UNIMPRESSED with the original dealership & most Dodge dealerships in my area. Otherwise I love the truck. Yes, it gets poor gas mileage but I KNEW it would when I bought it! The only problem I have had was the driver's window regulator stopped working within the first few months. Otherwise I have had no problems. I must have gotten one of the 'good' ones. The vehicle only has 28K miles on it and I baby it (maintenance, washes, etc).
A Dependable Friend
I actually recently turned in my 98 Durango after having owned it for five and-a-quarter years. In that time, it was the most dependable American car I'd ever owned, and it rarely gave me any major mechanical problems. It looked great even when I turned it in 5 years later. I found the 5.2 liter 318 engine very adept at doing it's job. In the time I had it, I moved 3 times. During the first two moves, I towed a fully packed 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix behind, and the Durnago never broke a sweat, even climbing through the mountains. The truck was good on the road, and had enough weight to it that I didn't feel like the trailer was driving the truck.

First New Dodge
Purchased new (1999), delivery was excellent. Would have appreciated knowing that front wheel ABS is an option. Didn't really need 5.9L but has been a blast to drive, but not fillup! Biggest complaint has been the replacement of two of the four electric door lock motors (two months outside of warranty). Really liked the cargo capacity and the flexible seating arrangement (3 kids & own business).
What I think About the Dodge Durango
It's a really great vehicle for a big family it does great in snow and I would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone 😀

185,000 Durango
Bought new and used as a daily driver/home construction work truck/ski vehicle for the past 10 years. Avg fuel economy of 14.5mpg. 5.9L engine with tow package. 4X4 with compound low transfer case has never failed me, left me stranded and there has never been snow conditions that have stopped me. Never needed chains. A/C condensor failed a couple of days after warranty expired. Rear washer hasn't worked for years. Had to completely rebuild the front end. Replaced water pump. Replaced manifold gaskets. That's about it. No problems with transmission or electricals.
Dodge and The Durango -Losers
Bought 99'SLT new from Glen Thomas Dodge in Long Beach.Liked the looks of the car and the V8 engines power.Routinely maintained the car. Control arms bent & the bushings were shot at 36,100 miles.Took it back to dealership as it was only 100 miles over warranty. They wouldn't fix it. Called Dodge corporate but they refered me back to the GM at Glen Thomas. He did nothing.Ended up paying for something that should have been covered.51,000 miles head gaskets blew and freeze plugs failed, cost me $1200.00 to repair.Just sold the car. GT Dodge are rip offs and Dodge Corp's no better. Will never purchase a Dodge product again.
Durango Fan
Great vehicle - really enjoyed driving it. Very quick. Short turning radius. Very comfortable ride.
Front end junk
Front components junk, brakes/rotors every 20K highway miles, tie rods, upper/lower ball joints, wheel bearings. water pump @40K, ABS module. All periodic maintenance done by the dealer per manufactures schedule.
The toughest car ever driven
I am 19 years old and I had this car till about a few months ago, my brother and I both owned this car while we were going through our crazy driving stage. This car has been through so many rivers and ditches and jumps, yet it has lasted better than we could ever imagine! This is the toughest car I have ever seen, won't ever let you down!
Never again
This car has been nothing but problems from the ball joints to the water pump not to include the door locks and burned out window motor. Dodge did not do their homework when making this model. Shame on you Dodge!
