My parents bought this car brand new in 2007 and I began driving it in 2011. It has been a fantastic family car and commuter car for all of us. Together we've put 142k miles on it with a good mix of highway and city miles averaging about 27 mpg. It has been extremely reliable and hasn't needed a single major repair. The only minor repairs included replacing the gas cap sensor which went out at 140k, wheel realignment at 120k(tire wear had been normal until then), and minor break repairs around 130k miles. A few cons... as a 6' tall adult my head brushes against the ceiling of the car. I also have to tuck my head above the steering wheel to see stoplights. Like any small car it also had a tendency to hydroplane when there is a significant amount of water on the roadway. Also, as I had the FWD model it didn't handle too well on unplowed roads or on steep icy roads. However, it still has managed to get me home during a few snow storms. All of these issues are what you would expect from a small FWD cars. Also to address some of the other reviews on here... The CVT transmission has never had an issue. It changes speed without delay and rarely makes any clunking noises. When it does it has been a case where I had to slam on the breaks and immediately slam on the gas. As for acceleration it holds up well if I'm the only person in the car. However... with 1-2 passengers acceleration decreases noticeably. Its not great but has never inhibited my driving capabilities. Also tire wear has been completely normal. The struts, ball bearings, etc have been inspected and still hold up fine. It has been a great investment for my family and I can easily see myself buying with Dodge in the future. For now I plan to continue driving it until the wheels fall off.

Expensive repairs early

I love driving this car. I love the looks of the car, the feel of the car, the response of the car. However, I have had two very expensive repairs early in the car's life. I had to replace the entire instrument cluster at 54,000. The illumination system on the cluster went bad. That was $500. Dodge would not help. Then, at 64,000, the ENTIRE k-frame was found to be rusted through, rendering the car unsafe. Cost to repair was $1,400. Dodge would not help. There are 27 complaints on NHTSA for this same problem. This is a serious safety issue and Dodge will not acknowledge they have a problem. I know car parts are going to wear out. But these two parts are NOT typical repairs.

I bought the 2007 Dodge Caliber brand new off the dealer lot. At 13,000 miles the oil control valve and the cv joint in the rear had to be replaced. At 19000 miles the outter tie rod was replaced. At 50000 miles, I now have a leak in the oil pan the same outter tie rod has to be replaced again, the lower control arm and struts are leaking. The car will not pass inspection. Thankfully I took out the extended warranty and some of it is still covered. I am a grandmother and dont drive out of control or crazy. I traded in a perfectly good 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee for this car. Wish I still had it. Can't wait to unload this car. It sucks! Dont buy one!

I’ve had my caliber R/T for 10 years now, and overall it’s been a decent vehicle. Like a few others, I to had to replace the ball joints around 50,000 miles. I’ve replaced the battery twice. Replaced tires numerous times. Replaced the master and slave cylinder for transmission. That’s about it. I bought the car used in 2007 with 14,000 Miles. The dealer had a number of calibers on the lot, but I wasn’t fond of any until I saw this one. It looked great (still does), was an R/T, plus had many of the SRT upgrade features. Finally, it was a manual transmission which I love. Over the years, I’ve racked up more an 100,000 Miles on this car, and although I’ve had a few repairs, I’ve never regretted buying it. Any car 10 years old will be be in the shop sooner or later. Even with the expense of repairs, it’s been the most economical and reliable car I’ve ever owned. Time and time again it’s got me where I needed to be, and never let me down. I was looking for a economical car when I found the Caliber. Many told me not to buy it, but those same people were spending thousands more on a car than I wanted to. I bought it anyway and have never regretted it. Maybe I was lucky. Maybe I found the only decent Caliber out there. I don’t know. I like to think I took care of her, and she took care of me.

I have a 2007 dodge caliber rt for 4years now and needless to say its been a dependable vehicle love the style and how it rides.. but im at 99400 miles and beginning to run into issues. I have replaced the throttle body ball joint front and back struts and springs/coils exhaust cap. Other then other maintenance that's everything I've dealt with. I will say though I do not like driving it in winter at all. Just doesnt seem to do as well as Id hope.

Great for four months

Bought the car used four months ago, ran great until a week ago when voltage light came on. Battery and alternator tested fine, three days later the throttle response light came on and it had to get towed. The garage said the oil was tacky (only used oil so I question this) and the top half of the motor was burnt up. I just financed the car four months ago, so had to again buy another car. Very disappointing, liked the car a lot until it did this.

I bought my 2007 Caliber in March of 2006, one of the first ones in this area. I was initially worried because I had the stalling problem (sound familiar Caliber owners?) and I also lost the alternator at about 50k. That was an $$$ repair. I still own the car. It has 256,000 miles on it! I have had to replace the alternator again. Over the last six years, I've replaced the tie rods (roads where I live--NE Ohio--are horrible) and one wheel bearing. I get 32 mpg on the highway (1.8 stick shift). The stalling issue just disappeared (did the computer self-adjust?). Car has the original exhaust system. So... two alternators, tie rods, a battery and 256k miles. Does this car owe me anything?

I was worried. I usually only own a Toyota or a Honda, but this car has been better than any I've owned. I bought the '07 in '09 with 37K, and now have 103K, and I've had almost nothing to fix. Just took it in for a tuneup because I hear some kind of rattling on a cold start-up, but they don't see any problems. This car is wonderful, and I live in Buffalo, which means a lot when you own a car.

I bought my '07 Caliber SXT 2.0 CVT (Not 1.8 Manual) in April 2011 from a Chrysler/Dodge dealership with 74K miles on it. Drove great, sounded great, felt great. And it WAS a great car....for about a year. Then, that's when the sh*t hit the fan....The door panels started to rattle (probably from the awesome sound system; but that's no excuse. If you're going to put in a powerful system, make the car equipped to handle it.) Then it started to jerk and putter a bit when I accelerated and make a moaning noise when I turned the wheel. Then the alternator went out at 91K miles. 6 days later, the fuel pump went out. Now, I'm just waiting to see what's next. Do yourself a favor and buy Japanese.

My husband purchased this car for me in the fall of 2006. To my surprise. This car handled great for me as most of my miles were city miles. No complaints of traction, or stability. In the previous sentence you see I mentioned WERE city miles, as my daughter totaled my car on her moving day. I believe that if she hadn't, I would still be driving my car for another 60,000 miles. I loved this car and the only problems I had with it was the O 2 sensor. This started at the 70,000 mark. No big deal for me. I also had the 18 inch alloy wheels which I will miss. And to the complaint of the helicopter noise, the car's brochure mentioned this. No big deal to me, just raise the window slightly.

I felt compelled to write after reading some of the bad reviews. I'm sure there are lemons in every bunch........I got my Caliber in April 2006, first one on the block so to speak. Right out of the Auto Show... Didn't see another for months. I drive a min of 80 miles a day, and still get 26 mpg. My original set of brakes lasted 85k miles. Original set of tires lasted 86k. (I drive all highway) I now have 153k on the car. Just put on the 2nd set of tires. I am putting on new struts as one has a slight leak and one ball joint. Other than a new battery, this car has just gotten the std oil changes/maint required. .

After six months of ownership I can say that the car has been dependable in temperatures from -15c to +40c and always started first try. Perfomance and handling on the car are quite impressive, the ride is stable and predictable on dry/wet/snowy conditions. Seating positon is more along the lines of a minivan than a car making it comfortable and very easy to get in and out of as remarked by my 71 year old father. As well as the long list of standard features on the SXT I opted for the security package adding the trunk cover, alarm system and cabin air filter. Another option was the Musigate System, this is a must for people that like music, 8 speakers and a sub with 458 watts of power!

I bought this brand new in 2007, first brand new car i ever bought. I had an older used Honda Civic hatchback before that and it was pretty cool but had nearly 300K miles so i finally bought a new car. I used it mostly for my work commute, 40 miles a day for the first 5-6 years then i got a job that I could take a bus so i just use it now for weekending trips and short runs to the store and gym or weekend errands. It has never given me any issues. I have replaced the tires and breaks, done all the suggested maintenance, and it has been super good for me. 86,000 miles in ten years and Never a problem. I will probably sell it soon because i have always wanted to have a big rig for camping in, but i will probably never get anything as reliable... This little gem has given me ten years of amazing reliability... such an awesome Caliber. I will miss it! So maybe i got lucky? Maybe i picked out the good one? I have no idea... but this one is and has been as good as gold. If it were twice the size i would keep it another ten years. Wish i could super size it.

After 13 months of owning a Ford 2005 Mustang, I decided to go back to a Dodge after I had owned a 2000 Intrepid for five years and never had a problem with it. The Mustang was hot, but my girls were not comfortable in a 2-door car, plus the gas prices skyrocketed right after I bought it and I was paying $120 to $160 in gas per month. My girls and I like the Caliber because it has four doors, still looks good, is better on gas (even buying premium gas, only $100 per month at the max), easier to see out of, and I used it to take my older daughter to college without having to rent an SUV. It has so much more room than the Ford (which is great for a single person), and is enjoyable to drive.

My Caliber had a 2.0L, but most come with a 1.8L. For the type of car, it wasn't all that bad. It had an acceptable amount of power for a stock 4 cylinder, got great gas mileage (about 24 city; 28 highway), and it was fun to drive. The styling is great, looks bigger than it actually is. I had the Caliber from June 2011 until I traded for a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer in November 2011. I drove my Caliber on a 400 mile trip through WV, and it handled the mountain roads like a champ. I replaced the left front lower control arm and ball joint becase of a squeak, but other than that, no problems. When I got the car, it had about 116,000 miles on it, and about 124,000 miles when I traded it off.

I really enjoy the look of the car. I bought the R/T instead of getting the Compass. Sirius radio for 12 months is also a great deal. When in auto it tends to lose HP but when you flip the autostick on you feel an extra boost. Lots of storage places and the AUX input jack comes in handy with my I-Pod. I seem to be the only person around with an R/T and it attracts a lot of attention for only being a $23,000 car. Really fun to drive.

I went and made an account just so I could complain, this is nothing but a money pit, ive replaced alternator, brakes, struts, cruise control, and 2 pairs of tires. ive had it about 6 years and just paid it off. Im so angry about this vehicle, every site you go on its the same complaint over and over again. this should be recalled. Had a ford and didnt have near as many problems. I should of kept it. Yeah cooler is a joker back bumper scratches and its expensive to fix. open up the back windows and it sounds like your in a helicopter. save yourself the money and get something else.

I was surprised at how well the car drove, handled, and the ride comfort. I had intended to buy another Honda Civic but saw this in a dealers lot and I noticed it had all wheel drive at a decent price. I like the CVT transmission. The quality surprised me as the last Chrysler product I had was poor. I think this is an excellent car for the money

I love my new R/T Caliber. I love the Sirius satelite radio. I don't think I will ever be without it. The garage door opener programmed right into the car is a great feature. No more searching for the remote. I am hoping to utilize the U Connect feature when I get my new bluetooth capable cell phone. I am still looking for help on programming this. Bought this car two months ago and have been kicking myself since. So far the sway bars, and tie rods have been replaced. The oil light and gas cap light both came on and dealer couldn't figure out problem. My wife was driving the car up a hill and the car died, causing the brakes and steering wheel to lock and the car to go go out of control and over a ledge into a dirt mound. Had it in the shop numerous times and the mechanics at the dealership don't know what's wrong with it. You can get a quieter ride in an army tank. Do not buy this vehicle. I'm afraid for the safety of my infant and wife every time they get in this vehicle.

From day one we we've had trouble with this car. We probably spent several hundreds over the past 3 years getting it to pass emissions. recently the the transmission went out, there's another $4500 for a car that's less than 4 years old. we sold it to the dealer for $8500, and paid close $20,000 for it. it depreciated faster than any other car we've had.

I love this car - fun to drive, great fuel economy, and I can even fit my 9 ft surf board in it. However - it's expensive to maintain. I just hit the 60,000 mile mark and because the Caliber has a variable transmission it takes, "a special kind of transmission fluid" and has to be done at the dealership. So the 60,000 service is going to cost over $650. I also just replaced the tires and since the Caliber has an odd tire size (lower profile) there are only a few tire manufactures who make that size and I spent over $900 on new tires. I do plan to keep the car for awhile - I just wasn't expecting such large chunks of money going out for routine maintenance on non-luxury vehicle.

I only suggest that the inside is a little to compact. I fele squished driving. The back seat cup holders should retract in and out so a third person can sit in the back. I love the car just need a little more room. Although it is a compact car it is so great on gas. I love that. I did experience a trouble time. It only happened once, but I had my headlights on and when I turned my turn signals on the whole head lights turned completely off. When the turn signals were off the lights came on. I also, when driving that night, when heat and radio were on the whole console got extremely hot to touch. Just a fluke but scary. Yes lights were on, not daytime runnng lites. Great car though!

This car has been a mess to own. My parents originally owned the car and had to pour almost $3000 in the last 3 years into this poor thing. We've replaced a good 3 or 4 batteries, a piston malfunctioned and cracked the cam shaft (that was 1500 right there), electronic throttle control went out (and its also starting to go out AGAIN), and a few other small things here and there. Now at the age of 18 I purchased the car from them so I could have it for college. Now i'm terrified to drive it. I've had a few times where the car won't even start because the electronic throttle control is acting up again, and when its not doing that the car really struggles to turn on sometimes. Acceleration is not too great either. I understand that it's not a huge truck and it doesn't have a huge engine, but its still pretty wimpy. Now the car is starting to make creaking sounds ALL the time, and with it being this car i'm not too surprised it's happening. The car is definitely comfy, has a nice interior, and gets great gas mileage...but I would never ever recommend anyone buy this car. It is not reliable. I'm looking to trade it in for a Toyota 4Runner ASAP.

My god! What was dodge thinking when they decided to build this piece of crap? Lets build a car which will never get out of the shop!? I'm 17, I got my Caliber as a gift from my parents at 15 been driving it for 2 years and in those 2 years I've had to change Engine supports, Alternator (twice), battery 3 times, Tires (all four), Compressor (Twice)... And those are just the major things let alone the small things every time I take it to the shop. I've been told its due to the sound system I have in the car but friends of mine have much bigger sound systems in civics and such cars and nothing. I've been left out on the road twice! Car just died on me had to get a tow because it would'nt start

So it says it can go up to 32 mpg, think again. I know several owners and no one gets that on the highway. The cooler only works if you have the air on full blast so it's useless in the winter or if you enjoy riding with the windows down. Already had a recall and had to have mine serviced within 3 months for rattling in the engine. Said I was getting Sirius radio for 1 yr. I haven't gotten it one day and yes I called to have it hooked up. It is a great first car or car for younger people. But myself, husband and two kids are kind of cramped, especially in the front.

We got our caliber in March 2014, when we got it, it had a problem. Behind the driver seat there is a water leak on the floor each time it rains, in the other hand, the caliber is very spacious and comfortable, the floor on the cargo area is nice because it is made of plastic, so in case of like a spill, you can easily wipe it of. The seats are very comfortable, especially when it is cold and you turn on the heated seats. Legroom is nice too. The car is fun to drive, because of the engine on the R/T (2.4L I4)

Do not buy used trust and believe all negative comments (its real). Had it 45 days and the Throttle body light came on. No acceleration, car shaking and won't hardly move. Car had poor accelaration before the light came on drove as if it were a manual shifting car. DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY! paid cash for the car, wish I had not!!!

We purchased this car with 50K on it. It started to sound like a truck. Alternator clutch?! Here is the list. Alternator, Cracked Manifold, Battery, brakes, tires. light bulb 2x's. It started out dependable. Now it is sitting again, probably a 2nd alternator. It is a great car in the snow but don't push it. It will need something. Can't put a dog gate of any kind in the car due to the design. Open up the window in the rear without the front ones and the worst percussion noise ever occurs.

I bought it at 36,900 (mileage) and am now giving it to my daughter at 126,8000, and I've never had a problem other than wear/tear except the fuel pump, which went at 50,000 miles. I think I replace an alternator too, around 90,000 miles, but it runs great, never stalled, never left me on the road or anything. I LOVE this car. Wish me luck with my new Dodge Journey! ;)

I bought my 2007 Dodge Caliber SXT (automatic) with 94,000 Miles on it Feb. 2014. Right after I drove it off the lot, the check engine light came on. I took It back instantly, they said it was a fuel sensor. So they replaced it free of charge. At 97,000 miles, I was driving and the car started to jolt, sputter, whatever you'd want to call It - the check engine light was blinking. I called a tow truck and had it taken to a dealership-where they "fixed it" They replaced 4 coils, all my spark plugs and also did oil change (it was just about needed anyway for the oil change). 2 weeks later, my family and I drive only an hour away from home. it happened again. don't buy this car!!

This car is the worst decision I've ever made. The repairs on the car cost more than the actual car. This is my first car and i now im scared to go anywhere because i am afraid that ill get stuck there. The engine, sensors, axis, cumputer, fuse box and breaks all of them were shady. I hate this car take my advice and dont get it. I promise youll regret it.

My sister, myself and a friend all have one. Mine's a 2007 R/T without AWD & I LOVE IT. I've had her for three years, & I've had no major issues. Her alternator is starting to go, but that's 7 years of wear & tear. The car runs like a car, but feels more like an SUV. The Caliber has dependability that we all loved about Chrysler Group at one time or another, & the R/T has enough power to make driving fun. They handle well, and have a great turning radius. With window guards, the window noise when open at high speeds is practically gone. Bought mine with 99,000 miles, and she now has 128,000 miles. Great car, would definitely buy another.

This is a great vehicle! Spacious interior is great for us parents, but the sporty outside is perfect for cruising. Can't beat the fuel economy, I'm getting nearly 35 miles to the gallon (highway), and when you're on a tight budget, that's always a plus. It handles better than I would have suspected.

I had to replace tie rod and ball joints. Again, I'm replacing the ball joints. I put in new alternator and a battery. Right now it has 102k miles. But it used with 70k miles. I don't recommend a dodge caliber to anyone. Money pit car

We bought a used Caliber with 2300 Miles on it. Wife liked, wanted it. Was OK for 3 years and 60K. But then it started to self destruct. Wife was hit with $3300+ in repairs during which we were advised Tie Rods were shot. Hmmm? was my question as we're in Az and don't deal with poor roads as elsewhere. Brakes went- $260+ during which we were told MORE suspension and Motor mounts shot. Then the Alternator went, $180+ 4 Hours labor and special tool to remove. I immediately sent it to a new Home...Far, Far away from mine. Horrible, Horrible Car.

Bought this car as a demo in 12/2007. First time purchasing a Dodge as I've always heard that Dodge transmissions and motors usually go bad at around at 100K so I was a little nervous about buying it. Car gets great gas mileage and lots of stares. Very fun to drive. I've had some issues with the brake bads and rotors.

I live in England and bought the two litre Diesel SXT Caliber and so far I have been pleased with my car. For a small family car it is one of the safest cars here in Great Britain. I was amazed with how well the car performs, the two litre turbodiesel gives all the right power at the time you need. I would advise any to buy the new Dodge Caliber.

I bought the Inferno Red SXT 2.0 two weeks ago after retiring a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. Not nearly as plush as my Jeep, but still perfect for my commute to work. Roomier than expected and I even took my six-foot-plus-some- son to sit in the back seat at the dealership before I decided to buy. Once I drove and got the feel of the CVT I was hooked. Great car, great value, great sporty look.

Bought my car 6 months ago with 68K. Week 1: Whinning in the front end. Took it to the dealership and insisted they fix it. They replaced the passenger side wheel bearing. Cost: $0 Week 7: Airbag light comes on. Took it to a diffrent shop and they said a sensor went out....? Cost: $323.00 Week 11: Grinding in the front end (drivers side). Took it back to the shop. The ball joint went out. Apparently that is also connected to the tie rod end as one piece. Also making my tires wear bad on the inside of the tires. While there, had the battery replaced. Cost: $968.00 6 mo. after purchase: Stranded! Altenator died! Tow and repair. Cost: $548.00 If you don't need a car, Get this one!

Perhaps my favourite car I've ever owned in my life (of 3 others). This car has been my old reliable. I take this guy camping, urban trekking, and across the state (Wis.) with no difficulties. It has had it's fair share of problems, yes, but overall I love this car. It has the appearance of a sedan/SUV hybrid, but the performance of a sedan.

I've driven mine for 2 weeks. Great exterior. Got it instead of the compass. The car is very versatile. I'm able to haul big packages from IKEA and Home Depot with no problem. My friends love it. I got the Inferno Red color with the music gate system. The 6 disk stereo does not have an aux audio jack. That stinks, but the great sound system makes up for it. I love the fold down speakers. Needs more power and pickup. The CVT is not very responsive, but it is OK for commuting. I drive about 60 miles a day and MPG is about 22. I do step on it a lot! I would like a bigger gas tank so I dont have to make 2 trips to the gas station a week. A lot of hard plastics in interior, needs cushoned arm rests.

The hype "was" that this was a replacement for the NEON! This car is so much better than the Neon, it has a removable Ultra deck (cargo deck that will hold up to 250 pounds. I have a navigation system with a boom box that that is attached to the rear hatch door with 348 watts of power for tailgating parties. I also have a place for my ipod that plays through the speaker system in the car. This is not another NEON, this is the new Dodge CALIBER!

Our Caliber has been in for repairs several times in last 2 1/2 months. We have a loud pinging/annoying noise that gets louder if your happen to be waiting in line going thru drive thru/or driving slow speed. We have a front passenger door that doesn't fit the frame flush. Headlight that sticks out in front. Gaps galore. Ice cooler that doesn't work. Seatbelt clasp that makes clicking noise as you drive.

If you're thinking about buying this car, read this first: RUN FOR THE HILLS AND NEVER COME BACK!!! This is the absolute worst car I've ever owned or even been in. Let's start from the top... It's extremely uncomfortable to be in for long periods of time. It's very loud to ride in - you can hear all the road noises and it almost sounds like the tires are bare even if they are brand new. The seat material is the WORST! They stain even from water, and they're just ugly colors. The whole interior design of this car is hideous, and really?? A cooler in the glove box?? How fat do we need to be, America, that you need a cooler for your canned sodas in your car? This car started stalling while driving or sitting at stoplights about a month into owning it. It also sputters if I filled the gas tank all the way up. I had to replace the engine mount TWICE - once before 100,000, and once at 150,000. I had to replace the cv joints after owning it for a year. If you go over a tiny speed bump it feels like you're driving a clown car going over really high railroad tracks. It's the most nauseating car to drive in or sit in. It has a hard time accelerating which is always fun going on the freeway. I'm not hard on my cars and had a Toyota Corolla and a Volvo that hit 200,000 and 350,000 miles, respectively. I bought this car because my Volvo went out and I needed something cheap immediately. Wow, what a mistake. Of course, I read the horrible reviews of this car after I bought it. There are people who think this car should have been recalled and I'm on that same boat. This is a wretched automobile that should have never been made. I bought a brand new Honda Civic and I'm never, ever going to buy an American car again. DON'T BUY THIS CAR!!!!
