My experience better than most reviews
I bought this used for cash when I needed something to transport my elderly father in a wheelchair. I also haul a lot of gear in my jobs as a freelance photographer and part time live sound engineer. Other than std junk that needs replacing like starters, brakes the only issue has been some odd electrical quirks. The remote door control stopped working, not because of fob, but the onboard computer. The alarm would trigger about 1/3 of the time when entering. Finally gave up and pulled fuse on horn. Utterly boring vehicle to drive, but its a van. Mine way more reliable than reports suggest. I did run full synthetic oil and think that may have helped get 200K+ miles on it. You can haul a ton of stuff and it's fairly comfortable. The Infinity sound system is not bad at all. The 3.8 makes decent power. But it's a bit thirsty. With conservative driving I could only manage 20 mpg. maybe not terrible considering size of vehicle. And for a minivan, I think this version looked pretty good. I like the curvy design better than the new ones. I had some fancy SUV's prior to this and while they may have looked 'better' the van was ultimately more practical. Serously, way more usable space than 'midsize' SUV I didn't enjoy driving it, but it totally fulfilled it's mission. year later update. The van is being stored in a garage at the family farm. It needs an alternator, but it still will be useful down the road, so I'm going to keep it. I stand by earlier review. Boring to drive, but comfy, tons of cargo space and really pretty reliable. I expect things like alternators and starters to need replacing. But never any major engine or tranny problems. It leaks a little oil, but does not smoke even with 200Kplus miles. But I take care of my cars. I replaced with a 2012 VW Sportwagen which I love. It's pretty much my dream car. Practical but a riot to drive. I always wanted a GTI but the wagon handles great. I have GTI sport suspension components ready to install. Sorry off topic. I can highly recommend the Chrysler van to someone needing that type of vehicle. Maybe not as slick as the Honda or Toyota, but you can pick em up used pretty cheaply. If you get one that was serviced properly they seems to last. I do think Chrysler unfortunately tends to build vehicle that seems sort of cheap and tacky, but I've been impressed by usefulness and reliablity of this van. My VW may be entry level, but it just exudes class. Doesn't have all the luxury features of audi, but every bit an nice of interior and ride. Same as before. Still parked. but I haven't sold or junked because it can still be useful when I get it fixed. Great vehicle for the intended purpose. I can't say I 'enjoyed' it, but I have no regrets on purchase. These can be had on the cheap. Even the new ones, as no one wants them. (which is too bad IMHO) Well, the van has sat now for nearly 3 years. I'm finally going to sell it for scrap. RIP. To paraphrase Tolstoy....'it was the worst of cars, it was the best of cars'. Boring to drive, tacky interior, but very practical, comfortable, cheap to own other than fuel consumption. Still have no regrets on purchase. It was a tool that did the job.

Excellant Car
This has been the best car I have ever owned !!!! It's electrical contacts for the seats and the window locks have a bit of a glitch. As well as we are very tall people and the drivers side leg room could be a little more spacious. But other than that I have been thrilled with the handling and performance of this vehicle. As a matter of fact. My oldest son took a defensive driving class with the local Sheriff's Dept where we had to provide our own vehicle for the course. This is where they had to put the vehicle into slides, emergency stopping, etc. We were told by the Sheriff instructor that this was an excellent vehicle that handled far past their expectations. Great Vehicle...

Great Vehicle
Bought this vehicle used with 60,000 miles on it. It has without a doubt been the best most reliable vehicle we have ever owned. It now has 140,000 miles on it and still going strong. Very reliable, practically no repairs outside of normal wear ie breaks, etc. Fuel mileage is very acceptable for such a large vehicle and 6 cylinder - about 25 on the highway. Also, I don't know how to explain it better, but it is just geared perfectly. It is a solid road vehicle, but when you need to pass or get extra power quickly - it will immediately gear down and give you the appropriate power and drive you need; better than any other vehicle I've owned. You can't go wrong with this vehicle.
Enjoyed this model for 8 years!
We purchased this Town & Country Limited All Wheel Drive new in February 1999. It served us well unti we sold it in December 2006 with 108K. It was a great family hauler and it handled very well in the snow with studless snow tires (and the all wheel drive). Comfy interior and plenty of cargo room! This '99 was our third Chrysler minivan and the best of all of them. We replaced it with a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica because Chrysler does not now offer AWD option on their minivans. If you find a used one that has been well maintained, don't hesitate to buy it :-)
great used van
Excellent used van purchase. The interior is well designed and comfortable. The ride is outstanding and the vehicle has a reliable history. Would recommend this vehicle to any consumer looking for a good deal on a used van.
Great For Family
This a a great family car for long trips. seems to have a lot of power going up the hills. Suspension is a little soft in the rear when loaded. Not designed to tow but has a tow package for probably a small utility type trailer
What could happen next!
I was very impressed the first time I saw it, driving it was even better with the heated seats and the dual control heat/air. I purchased the vehicle and loved it, until I got stranded. The key wouldn't move, only a week later after I purchased it. Had to get it towed. Come to find out that there is a bulletin on the ignition column that happens this happens a lot with this particular vehicle and there are no after market parts, and expensive to replace. Mileage isn't that good either compared to my 1994 Plymouth Voyager that I have had for one year before this. I'm not too crazy about the bucket seats in the middle. They are very hard to adjust to lower the back to recline.
Impressed with Chrysler
My first Chrysler and my first mini- van. Delighted with everything about this vehicle. Good fuel economy (26mpg at 75mph), great highway ride, plenty of room (great cargo space with seats out) and virtually no mechanical problems. After 40,000 miles the only problem that I have had was noise in the transmission that the dealer fixed in one day.
Chrysler makes a good 2yr car
1st 2 years of ownership were great. No problems! Then at the 3rd year with about 38k on it things were becoming different. The van has 60k on it now and here is a list of things that have gone wrong so far. Transmission, struts, idler pulley, heated seat, thermostat, catalitic converter, radiator fan relay, and rotors. Good thing I bought a 100k extended warranty for it. It has paid for itself 2 times over already.
What Am I Worth?
My wife and I have enjoyed this vehicle and are reluctant to sell it, however, we would like something newer. We have made many long distance trips and it has performed very well.It has two hundred thousand kilometers on it.
Great mini-van !!
Almost 2 years with my LXi and I can't complaint. Luxury and internal features are great. Excelent performance and comfort are the key combination. I'm pretty sure I will be buying a 2005 model next year.
A Great " Mother Ship"
I did NOT want to be a " minivan" Mom, when I was looking to buy a larger car in 1998. I test drove the Chyrsler T&C and fell in love with the luxury and comfort.... I was 7 months pregnant.. so comfort was important and sensitive at this time. I have had great success with this vehicle. Loading playground equipment to towing my camper for camping trips. The AWD has been wonderful in New England winters.
Ultimate Kid mobile
We bought our 1999 T&C used with 40k miles on it in in Feb. 2000. We now have over 68k miles on it and have not had a problem yet. The only complaint would be the fuel economy, we are lucky to get 18mpg on the freeway and 15mpg around town. The AWD and traction control are nice in the snow, it will easily out do my 4x4 Chevy truck in anything except deep snow.
A terrrific first van experience
I leased this 1999 FWD LX with the upgraded 3.8 L engine, upgraded sound system, dual A/C & Heating, upgraded tires, etc. and after my 3 years were up this past February, I was so impressed that I purchased it at the end of the lease. Except for recently replacing the tires after 50,000 miles, I have not had this van in the shop once except for routine oil changes/tire rotations. I could not imagine a more smooth and roomy ride in a van. I was considering the Honda Odyssey back then but I am so thrilled that I made the decision for the T&C.
what a joke
The headlight lenses are so foggy its like having flashlights taped to the fenders. I've noticed many, many Chrysler products in this area with the same problem. It has been recalled four times, but no recall was for headlights.
Happy with our LXI
This van rides very nice. Nicer than the Honda and Dodge. The heated leather seats really make this a very nice van. It has good power for pulling out of side streets. Like all the vans we drove, one really needs to apply the brakes hard to get the van to slow down quickly. The only thing we do not like is that it does not have an automatic temperature control.
Shakes, Rattles but looks Good
Defective Strutt Towers rusting through. Wheels and other front end components prone to rust and corrosion. Rusted through just after 2 years. Multiple front-end problems including suspension. Very, Very expensive repairs.
So Far So Good
We have owned a '99 T&C LXi AWD for four years. For around town it is easy to drive and the Infinity stereo is a treat. On road trips around the West the interior space is great especially taking out the mid-Capt chairs and putting the boys in back. With the leather Capt chairs in, the T&C is a nice transport for two couples with a night w/out the kids.
Chrysler T&C LXi
I love getting into this van and driving it. It feels very nice and well put together.
outstanding handlilng
the car needs an interloack between park and drive so it can not be shifted unintentionally.
1999 Town & Country Limited
I bought this van used, to replace a 1996 LXi. The '96 had electrical gremlins so I made sure this one did not. After over two years and 40,000 miles there have been no problems with it. It's a great vehicle for hauling many items or large items.
1999 T&C FWD
So far, 60,000 miles with no repairs/problems except for recommended service. Replaced factory tires at 58,000 miles. Driven across country 5 times without any trouble. Great family hauler (3 gradeschool age kids). Used to occasionally tow a 3,000 pound ski boat (has towing package). We live in northern Minnesota and have been satisified with the snow traction. Plan on buying a new T&C in 3 to 4 years.
Can not do this again
After 32,000 miles I have never spent so much time in a service department. Starting with brake problems within 3 months and continuing with this problem on and off for 2 years. Brakes pulling and leaking fluid. Brakes pads changed twice a year. Transmission electronic device going out.(car not shifting gears).
Beats my Explorer Eddie Bauer flat
I once had for 5 years a Body shop, tried so many car and trucks, this is the VAN to have. added the DVD and rear deflector, since I don't enjoy My Explorer Eddie Bauer, as much, no comparison for gas, comfort and stability. Own and owned a Explorer AWD, Toyota SUV 4x4, a Grand Caravan LE, 2 accura Legend LS, Beetle, escort, horizon, Spirit. This is my favorite big time and no I don't work for Chrysler or any car dealers. My brother in-law has company vans, he regrets it's his fourth windstar and the employer still hasn't brought back the chrylser models, he's had one of the early '90s models.
Never again!
We purchased A 1999 Chrysler T&C LXI AWD in April of 1999 and have had extensive problems from day 1. Time and frustration have proven that Chrysler was the wrong product for us. PROBLEMS: -Heating coils came through front seats -Paint peeled (Van repainted) -Transmission failed at 40,000 miles -Rear power window motor failed -Water in right front head light -Windshield wiper came undone and failed All this for a $36,000 vehicle!! IN the first 45,000 miles of use!
so far so good
I have 3 problem with the van 1) HD battery went south cause my wife to stuck on the road. 2) master brake cylinder leak, replaced. and 2 years later when the brake was done it leaked againt. 3) alignment 3 times and finally got it right. Other then that, 2 new tires, oil changes every 3k, brake jobs and that was it. Gas milage sucks 16 city and 20 highway
appraisel of 1999 Chrysler T&C Limited
I've owned this vehicle since new. It has never given me any problems and runs beautifully. The gas milage is as good as it said on the window sticker. No mechanical work has ever been required.
run to the end
I bought my lxi with 82000 obout 2.5 years ago. Last week I sold it with 171000 miles.Original engine and transmission.Everything worked.
The One
I love this van. It is versatile, comforatable, and reliable. Seats come in and out easily for extra cargo room. Fits 7 adults, and with rear heat and air zones, everyone is comfortable. Shop time for oil changes, tires and brakes. Regular maintenance only, no major repairs.
Excellent overall...
This van was given to me as a gift from my mother...Who bought it from my aunt, a loyal Town and Country owner. It now has 61,000 miles on it, and the only problem I have had is two recalls which were both fixed by the dealer within 4 hours, and at no charge, and an AC hose leak. But considering it's age, it is an excellent car! I am in college, and the space and versatility are perfect. Although the engine isn't the strongest, it is exceptionally smooth and provides enough power when I need it. And the space is an assurance for safety...My mom didn't want me in an SUV just yet, and the T&C's size made it perfect. I fit my entire dorm inventory in it!
Best Car I've Owned except transmission
I bought this car when I saw a private seller park it in a shopping center. I drove it and loved it. It is the most comfortable car I have ever had. I am 6'5" and don't fit in most cars these days. This one is a joy to drive, first class all the way. I wish they had the transmission worked out, I'm on the third one.
My 4th Chrysler and the best yet
We can't remember any problems beyond minor adjustments(squeaks)when we first purchased it and the steering wheel cover wearing early. Chrysler replaced the entire steering wheel 3 years later for us at no charge. The ride is comfortable and there is a lot of room to haul items in the back. The 3.8 liter V-6 engine makes it move with ease when you need power.
Only 95k miles
After regular maint/ it has now lived past its peak. New transmission/CV axels/ Driveline/ Radiators/ Major Tune Ups/ etc... The repairs are worth more than the blue book value now. Time to bail out.... Yeah and the rear leaf springs are riding on the bump stops now and we dont tow anything..... Kids put all the strain on the rear leafs??? Doubt it- poor quality.
Excellent w/ Extended Warranty Coverage
It's great, but it requires lots of maintenance and repair. It's our second Chrylser minivan. The first was a 1996, which had a tremendous amount of faults with mechanics and electronics (though in it's defense, it was a first model year). Going into this purchase, we opted for the extended warranty. First the good: it's a supremely functional, easy & fun to drive van with excellent power and handling. Very comfortable. The Limited version is well equipped with luxurious options. Down side. We bought the extended warranty for $1800. Chrysler has performed $5000+ in repairs over the 4 years/70,000 miles that we've owned it: suspen., trans., elect., a/c, trim, belts- some more than once!
Excellent Vehicle
I bought the van used with 69000 miles. Almost three years later it has 126000 miles. No problems other than normal maintenance, brakes, etc. I receive many compliments from family and friends about the style and comfort on long trips. Best looking van on the highway.
town country
This is an excellent vehicle.
excellentusedride
did alot of research on minivans. Honda seems ok, but the company has a tight control on them and won't even let you test drive one--too much hype. Toyota has hidden costs for extras. Caravan and T&C seem to be best bang for your buck. I love the extra features in the T&C--purchased a loaded one used for very reasonable price. Love it
TOWN & COUNTRY LTD CANDY APPLE RED
This is a beautiful candy apple red van. I was very lucky to find it and bought it for my self on December 17 2000 for my birthday.I have always changed the oil every 3000-3500 miles as well as other maintenance as required. In July 2004 I put on new brakes and 4 new tires. This is truley a very nice ride.
Excellent Family Vehicle
This van is a pleasure to drive. Along with nimble handling, a finely appointed interior, and a solid body, this van has a reasonalby strong engine, and excellent fit and finish. The only problem we have encountered is a battery fault, but otherwise this is a great car!
Best of the Best
Best vehicle that we have owned for comfort and reliability. It is very functunal for every task you ever wanted a vehicle for. Just a plain good van. I was in a snowstorm driving to Colorado and was the only vehicle on the road that was driving, the others were all in the ditch.
5-4-03
Have driven over 100,000 miles, with no problems or repairs. Only moil & filter changes every 4000 miles. Only expense is one set of tires!
Chrysler T & C LXi review
this is a very commfortable vehicle. I take many older friends out to eat, etc and it's comfortable. I like the leather seats. One problem: The front passenger side does NOT have a grab bar to help people get in. It also should have double v
best vehicle ever
I have been driving a chrysler built minivan since 1994 (including dodge and a plymouth) while they all share the same platform the town and country limited is by far the best built and most comfortable van I have had. I have been in 34 states in my vacationing travels in the past 10 years have never been broke down or had any issues, all but 2 of my 6 vans have had over 100,000 miles on them, we currently have 5 of them in my immediate family (mom, sisters and brother in law) Also, I am a certified master mechanic with 15 years at a chrysler dealer, now independent shop owner 3 years.
My review
I've had very little go wrong with this car. She's still running like she's new.
Buyer's Remorse
Just bought a 99 AWD LXI on a lease return. Only had 27K miles when we bought it. The transmission has failed at 30K! and its out of warranty. $2500 hit to the pocket book. Other goofy things with the electrical. The transmission guys say they don't build these things beefy enough for the AWD design. Shame on Chrysler for saving a few bucks in design and manufacturing!
Chrysler Luxury
Overall a good van. I bought my van with 82M mile and put on little over 12M miles on it. Dollar for dollar, you cannot buy a more well equipment van from any other manufacturer. The only down side is the transmission. At 92M mile it went out and I had to replace it with a Chrysler rebuilt which comes with a 3 year 36M mile warranty. Other than the transmission everything else has been working great and I would still recommend Chrysler Town & Country. Thou I would not recommend paying retail for it and have the transmission checked. If you can buy a loaded up LXI or Limited at wholesale...go for it.
Chrysler T & C
The MiniVan by Chrysler was a great vehicle, I traded a 1997 Grand Caravan ES for my 1999 Town and Country; both serve their purpose as family haulers with a nice degree of comfort however, now that we have 2 kids in car seat ages, it is cumbersome to travel with both. Stow away seats unfortunately came to late for this model.
Stylish not Safe
For a 99 looks stylish. Drives tight. Interior nice. Chrome wheels look super, but are prone to inner corrosion. Had a flat because of it; took 2 strong men an hour and a call to dealer to free the wheel. "Oh yeah, those do that, beat it with a rubber hammer". Plastic front end drags on curbs when parking. VERY UNSAFE that you can shift into gear without putting your foot on the brake. Gearshift is EASY to accidentally bump too.(All insane for a family van.) Got AWD for my winter climate, BUT: PCV Valve freezes up when it is below zero. Stalls when you come to a light. But easy to start again, just bump up to neutral and crank!
Great car
I have owned this car for 8 years, and have never had any problems with it. Very reliable and comfortable vehicle. Probably the best car I have ever owned. Highly recommend this vehicle.
Chrylser not ok
We seem to have hit old age with this vehicle. We've had nothing but problems all this year with it as one thing after another break, burns up or stops working. Electrical is on the fritz, brakes continually causing problems, speakers popping on and off, etc, etc. I used to recommend this vehicle to friends but not anymore! I wish we had waited and bought a Honda or Toyota - at least we would have had a better chance of trade in or selling one of those!
