Used 1999 Chrysler Sebring Consumer Reviews
Great ride and Fun to drive
This is a great car! Fun to drive, and handles great! If it just had a little more horse power, it would be perfect! By the way, my top is 4 years old, and it in great shape!
Stay away from this car
While the car may look great and fun to drive, it will always be in the shop. I have had the car in the shop 4 times, since I bought it 1 month ago. The car has been severely random misfiring and they have replaced the computer, spark plugs, valve cover, manifold, distrubuter, and they are now changing the EGR. In addition to this the car squeaks terribly at low speeds. Not only this the car has electrical problems, the cruise quit working, lights turn on and off when they want to and the remote keys only work when they want to any will randomly set the car alarm off. The car is not even junk yard worthy!!!

It is fun to drive
The driving fun ends quickly because you cannot keep the thing on the road. The tires are crappy in winter, the rims are horrendously expensive and you can bend them with your bare hands so be careful when changing a flat. The hubs will not come out of the steering knuckles even though they are threaded. To fix the belt you have to go in through the wheel well. I am a fairly competent average joe. I know what I am doing for all these little things. However on this car, it is built in such an obnoxious way that even the little things take 3-5 days to fix.
Stylish experience
I originally wanted a Stratus R/T but ran across the sebring in the back of a lot so I took it. Iv had it for 2 years now and the only problem I have had with it (150,000 miles) is the sway bar bushings, lower ball joints and a small leak in the flex pipe. But it has 150,000 miles what do you expect? It doesn't have much power for a v-6 but I put a air intake, exhaust system and after market plugs and wires and I noticed a big difference. It sits low, seats are kinda hard, turning radius isn't perfect and there aren't 4 cup holders because it's a coupe sports car not a full size luxury car! It looks sharp, handles awesome, very reliable. Very happy I got it, love the looks I get from everyone.
No More Sebring
I would have to agree with some of the reviews earlier. About a month after purchasing my Sebring I noticed black glue type stuff on side panels of the doors. I've taken it to the dealer on numerous occasions. The sad part is that they are unable to tell me whats causing the problem. Since then every year Ive been out of $100 or more on the following: catalyst converter, serpentine belts and currently its in the shop for a transmission repair. I find the car difficult in steering, very small cup holder and loud road noise. The tires on my car 17 quite expensive and only a few stores carry that particular size.
Fun 2 Drive
I originally bought this car from the 2nd owner with 95K on it. I needed a second car to get me to/from my train station stop. I've only put about 10K on this car. Had some major problems with off with the distributor and the computer...replaced both at a cost of over $1500. Replaced the tires and did the front brakes. I passed it on to my son when he turned 17 and its a perfect vehicle for a high schooler. Looks sporty but the V6 is a bit under- powered, I feel confident there is enough weight to the vehicle in case he's in an accident. Overall, a good, but not great car. I like the era of Chrysler styling much more than their boxy macho lineup of today.
Too Many Electrical Problems
143K on my sebring Top and windows no longer go down. Gauges go in and out. Sometimes I will start the car and none of the electrical will go on-lights, radio, heat, headlights. ( Which is usually fixed by turning the car off and turning it back on) The only benefits of the Sebring are that they are cheap larger convertibles that are good for local driving or high school and college students. Not many problem with the engine and they get decent gas mileage about 20 MPG. Power steering makes noises even though fluid is not needed. If you are buying one I suggest getting the lowest mileage as possible because they really start going down hill around 120K.
Never Ending Problems
I had this car for a little over a year and had the following problems: the car alarm kept going off randomly as did the lights and beeping, the radiator had problems and the car kept overheating, it flooded in through the doors, the heat and AC only worked on the highest setting, and the break line burst. After all these problems, because off the flooding it was totaled due to an electrical fire. I will never buy a Chrysler again and would never recommend this car to anyone!
Have lots of fun with this car!
Hubby & I have thoroughly enjoyed tooling around in this sports car! The front seats are a little hard but it is a sports car but could use a little more cushioning. This year still had no good placement for drinks. That has been fixed since I see. What sold me on the car is that the back seats fold down! This is great for transporting stuff even ladders!
My Sebring Coupe Lxi
The sebring really needs a more powerful engine to go with it's "powerful" look. Another thing that it really needs is better color scheme on the interior, My car has the black/beige interior. They just do not go together at all. The windows could use some color to them as well.
love the car, hate the brakes
Love the car, enjoy driving it, but hate the brakes. Brakes started squeaking very soon after I purchased it (it was new) and have now been replaced twice. Car gets good gas mileage and has otherwise been very reliable. I'll probably keep it for at least another couple of years. Just please, Chrysler, fix the brakes! And make it a little easier to turn (semis make u-turns better).
Sebring LXI
One thing I notice is it is inconvient to put a CD into the playerwhen the car is in park or reverse There is not enough room meaning you have to move around the gear shift.Nocup holders, seats hard. hard to seeout of rear window due to the rear coming up to high.1 cupholder that the car did offer fell apart. At 65k I notice the trasmission to be "slipping".It doesn't seem to shift correctly.the passanger door needs to aligned which could cost $300it doesnt shut right when the window is up.BIG PROBLEM window needs to be down in order to close properly. Does the sensor in the rear view mirror really work?
I Hate This Car !
I hate to say it but this is the worst car I've ever owned. The front end is way too low... bottom out everywhere. Both door handles have fallen off @ different times. Had transmission problem with a computer chip in 1st. year. Paint on molding has faded to dull grayish/black. Power windows seem to "stick" sometimes and just won't open. The worst was when a black tar- like substance started leaking from inside the doors. The dealer repaired it, TWICE! Then I had to demand new floor mats because that junk got on my mats. I go through tires like crazy!
Good For Me
I like the car alot - Doesnt have as many standard features as I would like in the LX model but is alot of fun to drive!
Love my LXi
I absolutely love my Sebring LXi, it is a lot of fun to drive and handles well. It gets great milleage on the highway and in town. Plus I love the sporty look Chrysler has given the LXi.
Nice car, but...
Purchased new by my wife who liked the look of the car. Rides well, fun to drive. Tilt wheel doesn't tilt enough for average size man. Front bumper way too low. Would not buy this model of this year again for those two reasons.
JNorflet's 1999 Sebring Lxi
This car is lots of fun to drive. The manufacturers sound system, seats and interior is excellent. However, when compared to my previous car, which contained a 3800 v6, the performance is lacking. The reliability has been fantastic. I commute 100 miles to work each day (all highway miles) and the ride is as smooth as silk. The car has 17" whhels and handles like a dream on turns, and in curves. The suspension provides a nice combination of ride and handling. I receive compliments on the car wherever I go. Many don't realize it's a Chrysler (or American car)
1999 Sebring
First Car, very Bad Expierence. Fuel Pump went bad at about 1,200 miles. Brakes have been a nagging problem from 7,500 to present. Engine sensor went bad at 8,500 Miles. Fuel Sensor went bad at 21,500 which shut the engine down when the brakes were apllied. Now have an ugly black tar leaking out from under the doors due to the heat. Should have spent 2,000 extra and went with toyota or nissian. I learned from this mistake but at a cost.
Carol's convertible
Oil is changed every 3000 miles, transmission oil changed as required, tires rotated and all papers saved in a folder (in the glove compartment) and all inf. entered in the book that came with the car. Each time I get new wipers etc. all inf. saved. Thank you for the report I will be receiving. Sincerely Carol
very disappointing
Turning radius is very wide. it takes at least three+ lanes to make a u turn. I have had to replace brakes once a year and the car goes through tires even faster. This car has been nothing but a pain.
Excellent Vehicle - Expensive to Repair
This is the best car I have EVER owned, and I've owned a few in my short time. Performs relatively well, although the 2.5L V6 is anemic at around 160 HP. Handling is great, performs well is most situations, but does tend to exhibit slight understeer qualities, but the length of the wheelbase helps to keep it contained. Now I have over 165,000 miles on it... and these were not your putt putt grandma miles either... I beat the crap out of my cars. Don't feel bad though because I do take care of them, obviously. 150000 before I needed to replace the infamous A604 atransmission. Even now with 165000 it runs just as strong as when I bought it. "Dime" repairs now... time to sell. I'll miss it
Terrible Brake cost
Every 25,000 I needed a font brake replacement, including rotors. This is an unacceptable cost. I was not hard on the brakes, I just drive the car to work and home, almost all highway. I called Chrysler after the second time to let them know what was going on and maybe they might want to see if it is something in the manufacturing of the rotors. I was treated very poorly by the customer representative. I will never own a Chrysler again after I sell this car!!
Sebrina
"Sebrina" is a sweet-looking sporty car. Still gets wolf whistles from gear head guys and teen girls adore her. Her V6 doesn't have power in acceleration. Her nose scrapes high curbs and parking bumps catch on it. Change the tranny fluid frequently to avoid slipping. Few tire choices and high prices make new treads expensive, but the aluminum rims are sooo sharp looking! The rear view mirror fluid overheated and leaked out, making it cloudy. Roomy trunk, good gas mileage, great handling. The only back-to-dealer problem were the side panels which came loose 7 times, replaced twice! No mechanical problems in over 4 years.
Bad transmissions but otherwise great
I bought this car used 3 yrs old with 30,000 miles. I have put in two new transmissions, one at 36,000 miles and the other at 105,000 miles. Not the greatest on fuel economy, otherwise I love this car.
If you like to turn heads
then you will love this car. I really enjoy driving it. Very sharp. Keep in mind that this is NOT a sports car so don't expect it to drive like one. Yes, the turn radius is a bit wide, but again it is a MID SIZED car. If you find yourself whipping u-turns alot maybe you should invest in a map....??? Back seat is sufficient, but would not want to be back there on a ride over a couple hours. Very low profile, have to take it easy parking and going into/out of parking lots - easy to scrape up the front. Issues with brakes and rims can be addressed, do a google search.....several sites dedicated to the car with tons of great info on all the little quirks!
wish I could do over
This is the worst car I have ever owned! I am a tall person and I find the car uncomfortable. The seatbelt chokes and burns my neck. The scoupe broke from being too low. I have had brake problems, panel probs, the car is uncomfortable for passengers taller than 5 ft. I feel boxed in between the roof hight and the steering wheel. Not good for long trips. I liked it in the beginning, but grew to dislike it.Turning radius awful. Sorry!
Get Ready to spend money on the Tires
The tires on the Sebring are very expensive and they don't last long. I hit a pot hole and bent the rim on the car. The steering wheel does not tilt or lift up. I've had brake problems. The car is extremely low to the ground- curb magnet. Low resale value.
Mechanically Unreliable Car
This car has developed a coolant leak, brake fluid leak, and there is fuel leaking into the oil. It has been taken to numerous dealers for repair, that claim nothing is wrong with the car. I've had the oil tested by an independent lab that verifies the percentage of fuel in the oil steadily increases. I constantly have to add coolant and brake fluid, but the leaks cannot be detected. I've called Chrysler Corp. They claim it is impossible for the fuel to leak into the oil and that there are no leaks.
should have kept my Honda
the car has been in the shop for unscheduled maintenance(read: things BROKEN) 10 times in less than 3 years/30,000 miles. while none of the problems were major breakdowns, they were evidence of crappy parts and poor workmanship from the factory. the minor annoyances add up to an unsatisfactory experience and terrible resale value.
love it, love it, love it!
this car drive like a dream and looks like one too. i would definitely get leather seats, i have cloth ones and i HATE them!
Defective Rims
I have had many flat tires since purchasing this car three years ago, mostly due to bent rims. Sebrings manufactured between 1997-2001 had defective rims, and a 33 million dollar settlement was won against Chrysler. Unfortunately the 3 year warranty is long expired and I have been forced to pay out of pocket. Also, one of the side door panels fell off for no reason, and black goo melted out of the door on really hot days.
My Convertible
This was my first convertible and I have had fun with the car. I have had it for almost 5 years and it is holding up well. The only problems were handled under warranty and some routine maintenance. Sometimes I wish it was a bit shorter and had better visibility with the top up.
Great Car
Same problem with black goo coming out of doors on hot days. Otherwise it is great to drive. Handling is superb, very fun to drive. Not a lot of power off the line but enough to make it a fun drive. As long as you change the trans fluid regularly you will have no problems. Looks great, drives great, good car!
Nice car but!!!!
The Sebring is a wonderful car except for the transmission, which goes out ever so often (lol). The interior is beautiful and the exterior look is sporty. The car just needs to be remanufactured for reliability. Other than that it drives ok.
1999 Sebring Convertible JX
Beautiful, fun car to drive. You get many looks in this baby! It's fast, roomy back seat, and handles seamlessly. The 2.5 Mitsubishi engine is powerful and reliable. You can't miss with this one! Family friendly and sexy to boot!
Caddillac amenities at a Chrysler price.
This car is great for me. Being a high school student and a Caterpillar employee, I need something that is sporty enough for my down time, but luxurious enough for the office. The Sebring seems to deliver meet my needs. I have regularly serviced it, and the only thing I have had to replace is the wiper motor. The nice rims are a big plus, and I love the wood trim and sunroof. However, the paint on the spoiler erodes horribly. Being a 1999, it has both cassette and CD, which is nice. It has been reliable in hot, cold, rain, or shine. The trunk is also huge. And if it isn't big enough I can always fold down the back seats. The Sebring LXi has impressed my friends and is definitely a great buy!
Chrysler Sebring LXi Coupe
This is a great car. The only problem I have found is the 17" aluminum wheels. They are not strong enough and, according to two tire and wheel companies who have replaced them for me, it is the #1 replaced wheel in the nation. They are very fragile, and I've had to replace 9 of them in 2 years. They are $350 apiece!
Feels good to drive.
My Sebring Convertible has been a solid, stable car. It's fun to drive, reliable and looks good. That's more important than it sometimes seems, but it FEELS good to drive this car.

Still Trucking Along
I bought my 99 Sebring LX in 2000 it had 4500 mi. It’s been a great dependable car. Hasn’t let me down, I’ve kept up on the maintenance & take good care of her. It’s never been in any wreck still looks good. I get looks when she’s all cleaned up not only for the good looks but you don’t tend to see the Coupe’s anymore just convertible.

Incredable car!!!!!!
I bought my car from an 80 year old lady who only drove the car a few times a month. When I got the car, it barely had 20,000 miles on it. The car itself ran a 9.8 on 1/4 mile. I've never had a single problem with it. I found if I keep up with the tune ups and what not, the car will do anything I ask it too. Although I keep the car in a heated/air conditioned garage 90 percent of the time, it is one of the greatest cars I have ever owned. If you're looking to buy a fast, fun, and all around amazing car. Buy a Sebring.
Sebring convertible
I purchased this car as a former leased/rental vehicle in 2004, so it had probably been thrashed on. Considering that, it has performed pretty well.
