Gramps' LHS

I've owned my 1997 LHS for 3 years now and what to say? Love it! Car has been garage kept by this 78 year old gentleman and had only 59,000 miles on it, brand new car still. Had a few fixes over the last year, bad tie-rod, transmission line leak but overall regular maintenance will keep this car on the road for little money. I like my comfort and I am well served with this roomy ride. Of the 20 some cars (new and used) i've owned, this has got to be 'the' best vehicle i've had.

I had my LHS for about 7 years. I have had many cars over the years and I have to say that this Chrysler was my favorite. It had a great ride and was extremely comfortable. On top of this, the gas mileage was better than I or most people thought it would be. The car was reliable and I enjoyed driving it quite a bit. I had to give it up when the expenses to repair it were more that its value. Shouldn't complain....it had 221,000 miles on it at the end. It was a great car. Since Chrysler stopped making the LHS in 2001, I decided to find and buy one of those. The "new" one has big wheels to fill, but it looks promising.

LHS: A good buy!

Since we've owned it, we've had no problems whatsoever. The leather seats could be a little more durable, but maybe we should have used leather conditioner more frequently. We really like it's get-up-and-go! When you need a burst of passing speed, this car delivers. The fuel mileage is 26-28 mpg, but it's not bad for the comfort you get.

Bought the car used and needed a bit of TLC. Beautiful lines, interior and performance. Had to change steering bushings and replace upper and lower manifold gaskets. Changed fuel rail o rings. Average mpg is 26-28. Roomy and comfortable. I love it. Better than any Lincoln or Cadillac that I have owned.

Was happy with the LHS. At 100,000 miles I suddenly had several problems, sucked in intake gasket, AC coil had to be replaced, automatic climate control had to be replaced. After approx. $2000 worth of repairs it was good again until I traded it at 130,000 miles. I traded if for a like kind, 2003 Concorde Limite, what a mistake that has been!!!!! Wish I had my LHS back with its 130,000 miles!

In '97 I leased this car for two years and loved it. Ten cars later, I couldn't get this LHS out of my mind, so I bought one with 100,000 miles on it last month. New tires and $2500 in mechanical repairs made it just like I remembered it. Too much? Sure, but I LOVE THIS CAR! It's a dream to drive, the seats are comfortable, the cabin is huge and so are the moon roof and trunk. The styling is timeless. Recent British guests were amazed at this car and couldn't believe it was 10 years old. After driving a bunch of new utilitarian cookie-cutter cars the last eight years, I'm finally happy again in my 1997 LHS.

$500 tranny overhaul and $300 rotors at 55,000 miles. HVAC control panel and front seat support brackets replaced under warranty. Front end clunking noise when backing up in cold weather. Too much wind noise at highway speeds. Find a good dealer for service work.

This car has been a great car. My mother in law bought it used in 2001. It only now has 53K miles on it and it is so comfortable. I am now driving it and really like it. I save my 08 Escalade and have fun driving this 1997! I can't believe the gas mileage I get (no wonder I don't drive the Escalade)! I will keep it forever I think. It is has always been in the garage and shows like a new one. Paint is great and still looks new!

I love my LHS. I still think it is the best looking vehicle on the road. Roomy, comfortable, fun to drive, plenty of trunk and back seat space. Gas mileage great for a car this size. I don't want to give it up. Got about 114,000 miles on it now and the motor is still A1 shape, but have a big problem with the paint, especially on the roof. Now starting to rust. I've seen a few LHS with this same problem. BWas told by the body shop the problem I have was only with certain colors being affected by the sun uv rays. Don't want to give it up, but am going to have to decide if it's worth the cost of the paint job. Hate to give it up. Great car, so right now I'm undecided.

I purchased an LHS after driving one as a rental on vacation and just loved it. Bought it with about 25K on it. Super comfortable seats, very roomy, my passengers are always very impressed with the comfort of the back seat. Huge trunk. Handles great on the road in wet weather--wide wheel base. Good gas mileage for its size-- I'm still getting 17 city and about 25 hwy. I did all of a sudden have problems with the paint, starting on the roof and it deteriorated fast. But, I still didn't want to part with itand the motor is still excellent, so I just had it painted last week. Now she looks showroom new. This is a great car for long road trips.

after a rough ride with the dealer upon original purchase (radiator replacement), this car has been a beauty. They styling has always drawn compliments from friends or strangers. The performance is quite snappy for a vehicle of this size. The sliding sunscreen for the moonroof is nice when you don't want that open air feeling and sun in your eyes. Fuel economy has been a pleasant surprise as I am averaging about 21 miles per gallon in city driving.

Bad Rap!

In my opinion this car has gotten a bad rap giving it a reputation it doesn't deserve. I've had mine for 3 years (bought with 27k miles)and have had little trouble of any kind-one recall item which took the dealer two times to fix: not the cars fault. I've added another 30k. It's a plush, cavernous, comortable, surprisingly powerful and economical sport sedan. If I was concerned about the depreciation I wouldn't buy this one or any American car new. But I'd buy another one used in a heart-beat. It's much more car than any (Buick/Olds/Pontiac) comparable GM models.

Bought this car used ( 1 yr. old ) for $19,000 in 1998. It has been a great car. Lot's of room, plenty of pickup. The traction control and anti lock brakes are a plus. Only problem has been warped rotors which may have more to do with the wife's driving than the car. :) As long as you keep up the maintenance you should fare well with this car. Gas mileage is good for such a large car. If they still made this car I would consider buying one again.

Bought this car with 25k, in 2000 and have had excellent service from it. It had a couple of warranty items, but that is all. My only complaint has been it is difficult for me to get into, but so are all the sedans being made today. This one is the least difficult, as I am a very tall and large individual. I would have preferred a vehicle without the moon roof, as it takes away inches in headroom. The newer Chryslers are too low for me.

Too Many Break-downs and Costly Repairs

I picked up payments on my LHS from my father (who wanted a new 300M). He bought the LHS new & had no problems w/ it prior to my buying it w/ 32,000 miles on the car. It did great for a while but then.... the AC went out @ 62,000 miles. Then the water pump went out causing multiple other problems at ~72,000 miles. Then at ~ 90,000 miles my transmission went out. I have so much in the car now in repairs I don't know whether to keep it or trade it in and take a huge loss. Repairs alone have cost me at least $4,000.

We owned this car for slightly over one year. Bought it used with 60k miles. It ran fine until a relay failed on the cooling fan, which led to a cascade of overheating issues, ultimately causing head warping. The car was in the repair stall more that in our garage for 3 month, at which time we sold it and bought another Oldsmobile.

Chrysler LHS

This car is one of the most comfortable autos I have owned over 25 cars from MB to Cadillac. It handles well. I have had only one service needed. An engine light came on in driving through North Dakota. It was a faulty switch and was fixed in under an hour while we waited in a little town. We have driven it from California to Minnesota to yellowstone to Cal to Florida. Montains, desert, everywhere. Our last trip from Vacaville to Orlando (3150 miles) averaged over 27 MPG for whole trip. And my wife and I both hae a heavy foot. It is a great car.

My first Chrysler: a Winner!

We bought this May 1997 LHS as a used car in Sept. of 1999. We had retired and wanted to travel in comfort. This car has more than filled the bill. Only "troubles" have been waking up to a dead battery and waiting for rural road service for a flat tire. Oh, one minor nuisance is that the gasket on the passenger door occasionally slips off track. The car runs perfectly on regular gasoline. We have it serviced regularly at Dover Chrysler. Interior - and leather - is pristine. Exterior is gleaming and impressive. Always garaged. Our custom is to keep a car no longer than 8 years so we are reluctantly looking for a newer car.

I bought my LHS 3 months ago and am very happy with it. The trunk could easily hold at least 4 bodies :) it's huge! The back seat has more than enough leg room for any size passenger. This auto looks classy from inside and out, you would never know it was 10 yrs old from the design. Rides great, and definitely comfort was in mind when they designed the interior. The only thing I am finding wrong with this auto is the gas mileage, I average about 13 in town and 21 on the highway. This must be just my auto though because the other posts here say they get around 20 in town? This is one great looking auto and the ride is smooth and soft.

Bought this car new. After a short test drive, my wife was hooked! Since that time, we have to date put 94K+ miles on it with little trouble. Car is comfortable and I can ride in the back without any legroom issues. Still gets looks with this body style, too bad Chrysler discontinued it in lieu of the 'cookie cutter' style for its' big sedans. Huge trunk, good pickup and handling, great gas mileage (can travel from Minneapolis to Chicago on less than a tank)!

A Ford man buys a Chrysler

As much as I love Ford cars/trucks, I have owned 5 in my short 20 year existence on the earth, and I liked them all, but when I went to purchase my 6th vehicle, I said to myself that i would consider other makes of cars, but No GM products, bleh! My first look for a new car, a 1999 Ford Escort, it was a smoker's car, too many small things made me question it, and I decided to look at other car lot, and I looked for something under $3,000. I found a Chrysler LHS, I loved it from the start, drove it, looked it over, BS-ed with the dealer, got them to knock off a $100 or so bucks, I drove it 250 miles to home, no problems,a good Chrysler product for sure, nice luxury car, forget Cadillac!

I purchased this car new in 1997, and it now has 197,000 miles. It has reliably been up steep mountain passes, crossed country several times with great comfort. After all these miles it is beginning to show its years as it's currently overheating. I'm wondering if it's time to put the "Do Not Resuscitate" sign on. However, I'm having difficulty letting go. I may give it one more check-up. If this car was still available I would buy another.

I woke up one day with my car sitting in the driveway. It started 3 times then the battery cables were shot. It had power surges before I had it fixed. The motor is really good only because I can fix the car when it breaks. The A/C leaks on the floor of the interior. Thats because of a blocked vent. Easy fix. The heater doesnt work at all and costs too much to have fixed.

I love this car. Roomy, comfortable, great gas mileage, trunk space for two sets of clubs INCLUDING carts! Handles like a dream especially in snow and ice. Chrysler had a good thing going with the LHS and botched it by discontinuing it. A comfortable ride for long trips even for the back seat passenger.
