2017 volt
At 60,000 miles, battery went bad. Since under warrantee it was replaced for free. Had to reboot and upgrade the software for the Android Auto on the car. Also had to replace a valve the controls the coolant on both the engine and the battery. If the valve does not work, then both propulsion systems are at risk. At 72 thousand miles the EGR valve went bad. Now in the garage for 4 months waiting for the part which is still under warrantee. Apparently this is a common problem: EGR valve problems and problem getting replacement parts. Was in the garage for a total of seven months until an OEM EGR valve was available. Had to go GM Corporate complaints to get it sooner than later. Now everything works again.

Seat torture
I bought this car for the gas mileage because I drive a lot. The steering wheel sits at a slight angle. That angle combined with the lack of lumbar support, over time has lead to a very painful condition in my low back. The transmission fluid leaked out and the transmission needed to be repaired at 61,000 miles. Expensive. Any pothole over 20 miles an hour dents the rims. $550 each. With PG&E price increases, it is less expensive to buy gas than to charge the engine for 13 hours. There are problems with the wiring, such as when I put the car in park, set the brake, and turn it off, it says, "put the vehicle in park," and won't shut off. Also, the a/c is SUPER LOUD, but if you turn it down, in a tiny black car, it gets hot almost immediately. I can see why they quit making this car. It is a [non-permissible content removed]. I will never again buy Chevy.

Horrible gas mileage for any car. Buyer's remorse.
This is my second volt. I owned a 2012 model for about a year and was absolutely devastated when it was totaled in an accident. I swore I would never own anything but a volt after that car. I never had a single problem from it. All I ever had to so was replace the tires. Not even an oil change! I bought it used with 39000 miles on it and it drove like it was fresh off the lot. Fast forward to 2017. I stayed true to my word and purchased a brand new 2017 premier model. My last model was premier as well and I got a little too used to the luxuries. I bought it brand new off the lot, something I swore I'd never do, but I was desperate. Within the first 2 weeks, I probably drove that car 5 times. I had to take it back to the dealer twice because the display screen inside went black and they couldn't figure out why. Finally, after having a rental car for 2 weeks, my car was returned to me and has since been working fine in that department. However, my biggest issue with this car is that I have not gotten anywhere near the gas mileage it is rated at. My 2012 model got a solid 38mpg. My 2017 model got a whopping 28-36, depending on my luck. I always drive as economically as possible, yet it doesn't seem to matter with this car. On a 600 mile trip, I got an average of 31.3 mpg. Absolutely unacceptable. The rating is at 42-43 mpg. What happened?? I've mentioned it to the dealer before and it's just been shrugged off. However, the battery life is definitely much better than the 2012 model. The saving grace of the car. I have never been so disappointed and regretful in my life. Maybe it's just a fluke with my particular car, but I would take my 2012 back any day.

4 months and 3400 miles later and WOW!!!!
I knew that I would be impressed with the Volt. I had been driving various Prius models since 2003 and it was time to make the switch to an EV. But I wasn't ready to be so blown away. I get a 53 mile range on my daily commute and I drive mostly freeway. BTW it's not flat - there's some good hills on the way. I love Android Auto and the capabilities that it gives; I'm sure Apple Car Play is just as good. The technology is just great - all the safety systems that are integrated into the car are icing on the cake. And don't forget the Adaptive Cruise Control - I've used that for the past 7 years in my last Prius and Chevy has done a great job with it. Bottom line, I haven't been this happy with a car since my very first Prius. As a side comment - to the reviewers who are only getting range in the 30's or low 40's I'd say, check your tire pressure or your driving style.
