I've had my Tracker ZR2 for nearly 14 years now. Had 7 miles on it back then. Only 86500 miles now, plus about 40000 towed four wheels down behind my motorhome. It has never, NEVER, failed me or my wife. It is a small,, nimble, fun little 4X4. I'll admit, there are better and more powerful drivers out there. But, after all these years, it's still clean, tight and fun to drive. Everything works like it did the day I bought it. Did have a rear oil seal fail under warranty. Nothing since. Putting on my 3rd set of tires now and we are heading out in a few weeks driving it 3400 miles to Florida to be our runabout at our winter home in Bradenton Beach. Update: Now 4/2016. I'm more in love with my tracker than ever. We drove to Florida the end of November. The tracker was loaded with stuff including 2 or 3 hundred pounds on the hitch carrier. It performed flawlessly over the 6 day drive doing 500 to 700 miles a day. As a runabout car, it is great. Small enough to make a parking space most anywhere at the beach. 92k on it now . The body and mechanics are still as tight as when it was new. update 10/2016 I'll sound like a broken record, but still love it. About 93000 on it now. nothing much else has changed. I love the strong A/C in the tracker. It handles Florida summer well. Update 4/2017 Still going strong. The silver paint is in excellent condition. I need to restore the surface of the bumpers. They are oxidizing in the Florida sun. The interior is still excellent. Otherwise, no drips, no runs, no errors. Love it. Update 11/17. Nothing new to add except that the silver grey paint is still perfect after 15 years including two years parked in the Florida sun. Still love it. Update 4/2018. Living in Florida, the Sun is brutal. Yet, the silver paint is still great. I have had to have the tire cover restricted but it still looks great. I have 97k miles driving and about 40k towing behind my motorhome. The steering and suspension are still tight and solid. Everything still works and I still love it. Dine the last update, I've put on new belts. That's it! Update 11/1/18. Still love it. I have been noticing and issue of the battery draining quickly though. I need to see if there is a short somewhere.

Its a very nice car, not to big but not to small to the point I have to fold myself up to get in, and she didn't want anything big. It drives very nice, and smooth, we have taken 3 trips so far , and it has been great. The biggest problem I see is that it doesn't like a crosswind much, but I put bigger wheels on it, and that did the trick. I also did a few small things with the motor to wake up some horse's, its real nice now. To me its a pretty good family car, I don't think anyone would go wrong with a small family.

Have owned this for the past 2 1/2 yrs and it has never given me any problems at all. It has been completely reliable transportation. The only thing I have done to it has been regular maintenance and purchased a new battery only because it still had the original one. 4whl drive has been excellent and no need for snow tires and has driven on pure ice roads. More than enough power and still great on gas with the nice v-6 Suzuki engine. Maybe there have been some lemons but overall I can say this has been one of the best cars I have ever owned besides my Toyota truck and Saturn car and I would have to now rank this car along with them as well. Never heard of the tracker till I read a review.

Me and my mother actually shared this vehicle, and it was everyone's favorite. It was the perfect size, Decent fuel economy with the 4 cylinder, the 4x4 was unbeatable, for a little 4 cylinder we would take it mudding and it would just sail around all those big "Mud" trucks that kept getting stuck. A real gold class SUV

My wife and I love our Tracker. It had a cracked hub when we first bought the vehicle. The dealerships(3) in this area kept putting the car on the computer to find out why it would just stop while driving down the road in gear. We finally took it to someone outside the dealerships, He would not let us drive it for fear the brakes would catch on the crack and flip the vehicle. We argued and finally got paid by Chevy. Now the door handles, the inside are faulty and will not hold up to normal wear and tear. The outside are absolutely no good if you get a little ice on them. They will break off easily. Ours did and at $90.00 we have to wait and save for this. Inside handles dome twice.

My mother bought this car when we were in need of another car, after i had gotten my license. I was Rear ended at a stop. this car was crushed, totaled. but i was completely safe, it saved my life. all that i got was a few cuts and bruised. This car did save my life, if i was in any other type of vehicle i would have been killed on spot. I miss this thing. "my Little Monster"

We bought this rig to save us some fuel (also have a Dodge 1500). We bought the 2.0 L inline 4. While it's a little weak, it makes up for it by being frugel. We broke this one in fast and loose crusing in the 75-85 MPH range from CA to Denver and back. At 80+ we were getting 25+ MPG I'm 6'6" and this was the only mini SUV we found that had enough leg room for me (barely). We are satisified with it so far.

The Tracker is easy to park and gets very good gas mileage. We tow it behind our motorhome and it is very easy to hook up. The shift on the fly 4WD is great. I drive this vehicle to work on the interstate and in town and it handles well in all situations. If you're looking for a dependable tow vehicle or work vehicle this one will do the job.

I bought the Tracker because it was the only GM model available locally with a 5-spd (I had GM$). The Tracker is not refined, comfortable, not a very good freeway car. It is fun to drive, great on dirt and gravel roads, gets better gas mileage than any SUV (24 avg), has decent cargo space and is reliable (check cons. rep.). It is much more Jeep-like than the CRV or RAV, but with GM$ and rebates it's about $5,000 cheaper. I chose the 5 speed 4cyl, which drives like a late 80s Japanese truck but feels rugged and is fun and economical. With 4WD, PW, PDL and cruise, I paid (after rebates) $14,500. I've had it for a year now, and like it more than when I first bought it.

I looked around a lot before I decided on this vehicle. It is fun to drive, looks great, and is getting great gas mileage. No rattles, smooth on bumpy roads, and the audio system is great! The air conditioner works well and quickly. The engine is very accessible, which should help with labor costs down the line. Water, power steering pumps are easy to get to, and the stabilizer bar over the engine is a good feature.

The Tracker has been a very good car so far. It's fun to drive, and I've had no problems with it. With normal maintenance and expected parts replacement (battery, brake pads, etc), it's been virtually problem free. The only complaints are the lack of leg room for the driver, even with the seat all the way back, and the carpet is not very durable. This car is just what it looks like, cute, fun, and good on gas.

I love my Chevy Tracker 4door, 2.0L automatic 4x4. It is great for any kind of city driving, and has a nice ground clearance for those pesky speed bumps and potholes, it's 4WD works very well, however i do have a few complaints, on gravel/snow NEVER take it above 50KM/h(30mph) cause it's short wheel base and poor steering control, it's back end likes to Kick out, and can easily loose control of the vehicle, and with it's narrow wheels flipping is defiantly a possibility, and at hwy speeds it defiantly feels tipsy, especially on bumpy roads, it likes being thrown around, defiantly cant be distracted when at hwy speeds. but i found it had suficent head room and easy to park, power is lacking

Very Good Value For The Money

At $14,000,the Tracker is a very good value. Good handling, adequate power, good gas mileage (22 to 28 mpg), and nicely equipped even with no factory options. However, that the Tracker is no CR-V or RAV4. Its ride is considerably busier, the quality of the materials is inferior and the rear seat is tight. Buyers who are considering more upscale Trackers (LT or ZR2) should be aware that the fancier Trackers, even with the big-time rebates, are approaching CR-V prices and I can attest that my CR-V outclasses my Tracker in many respects. People who want an inexpensive 4X4 will probably be pleased with a base Tracker.

My ZR2

Reliable and agile on snow, 4WD capabily on-the-fly is a nice touch, helps you save gas. I get very poor mileage, even in 2WD mode 95% of the times, I get 15-18 mpg, which is unexceptable given the fact that the truck is so light. It was build poorly as well, the drivers door is falling apart already after only 40K miles! The driver side visor also broke off. The trunk light inside never goes off! I have black tape over it. Asides the problems, its a very fun car to drive. Its quite fast, the light weight teamed with the V-6 makes it take off very quickly. Very noisy in the cabin, feels like it floats during light winds, or 80+ mph it swirvs left and right!

I bought my Tracker ZR2 to tow behind our motorhome. Setup for towing four down is a breeze. Transmission in park - Transfer in neutral - key on access and go. Tow brackets are available off the shelf and are simple DIY bolt on. The bracket receivers pass through the grill without mods and when the hitch assembly is off they are next to invisible. I don't know it's behind my diesel pusher when towing. I love its size. I can make a parking spot most anywhere. It's manueverable and fun to drive.

I love this little SUV. I purchased 2 years ago and have had zero issues accept for daily wear and tear. The 4WD works well although the turning radius leaves something to be desired. I've driven in several snow storms with no issues. Parking is excellent especially in city driving where the Tracker with its higher profile and compact size makes parallel parking a breeze. This is an excellent little work horse for a mother with one or two children and perfect for a college student in a snowy climate. It is dependable, fun to drive, and save to drive due to the higher profile driving on a highway and for it's 4WD capability.

The 2002 Chevrolet tracker LT what's the best vehicle that I had ever owned. The only bad thing was that I got sick and became disabled and was unable to do the maintenance that I'd always done. Other than that the 2002 Chevrolet tracker LT is a terrific car with great reliability an easy maintenance. My tracker had three hundred and thirty thousand miles on it. The only reason I had to let it go was due to the maintenance I was unable to afford. I would recommend a 2002 Chevrolet tracker LT to anyone. The best small SUV Chevrolet has ever made. It was the BEST VEHICLE EVER. It would have went to 500000 MI if I had been able to do the normal maintenance to it.

I have owned this vehicle for 5 years now & cannot wait to get rid of it. There is absolutely no pep to the car very sluggish. If you happen to hit a bump in the road the vehicle actually jumps. The ride is rough and the vehicle will only go into 4wd when the car is at a complete stop which can be very inconvient. Drivers side window has squeeked ear splitting since almost day one. Brought it in to the dealer stopped squeeking for about 6 mths & then came back. Back door on drivers side will not open. Lock will not pull up for nothing. Windows fog up continuously in the winter so defrost has to stay on.

I bought this car because I wanted something versatile and suited to outdoor adventures, but which would also be practical for city driving -- that is exactly what this car is. I took it offroading in the Northern California wilderness and in Death Valley several times, and the Tracker proved itself to be tough, well-built, and the short wheel base lets it go almost anywhere. Unfortunately, the short wheel base is also the most negative aspect of the car. It was very squirrely on the freeway and I spun out a few times on wet or snowy roads. When I blew out a tire on I5, the car spun out of control and was totaled. The squirrely-ness of the car is my only complaint - no mechanical problems.

Bought a lease return in its first year and was my first "American" vehicle purchase in over twenty years. Loving the value I got from paying 1/2 the price for a new one and also the continued trouble free operation. Four wheel drive has been more than handy in three blizzard occasions. The top comes off easily enough and gives you a wide open feel with big windows for full visibility.

I have the 2 door, 4WD convertible, and it is fun to drive. Of course it is a bit noisy, but it is a convertible. I see some people complain about the quality on this website, but even after being shipped to Hawaii, there was not a single minor defect. I have about 750 miles on it so far, and not a rattle or squeak-it runs perfectly so far, and I get 24 mpg in town, even with limited use of AC. Being in Hawaii, there is no need for a heater or defroster, but the base model I got came with an airconditioner that is not really needed in a convertible I often rent Jeep Wranglers for work, and they are nowhere as practical

I've had my tracker for about 9 months now and I've had no problems thus far. It handles great in the snow and that comes in handy when I have to get to work at 4am and the plows aren't out yet. It's a tad cramped on long drives but if you stretch every once in a while it's bearable. I'm single and don't have kids so space is never an issue... I just got a tow hitch installed so I can haul around my new Wave Runner... When I see how it handles the trailering etc... I'll post some more... Overall I get about 20-24 miles to the gallon... great for a truck built on a ladder frame... I've even taken it offroad in New Hampshire on some trails and it handled great.

ZR2 small enough to fit it in the small 4th spot in my garage. Back seat too small for most adults but seat folds flat providing ample "stuff" space. REAL 4WD with high/low range. Fairly quiet on the road without any engine buzz. Body on frame construction. Best thing is the 4WD, shift on the fly. With good tires, it'll go through most any blizzard and come out smiling!

This is the absolute worst ownership experience I've had with a vehicle. It's under-powered. Completely worthless when it comes to value. I had it appraised and the thing lost so much of it's value, that I can't even trade it in. I owe 8 thousand dollars more than then car is worth. Thumbs down to the Suzuki.... ummm Chevrolet Tracker.

I never imagined I would have this much trouble with a new car. I havent had the car 2 years yet. Bought this in 02 after my lease of my alero ran out. This is one of the worst cars I have ever owned. The wind moves you all over the road and during the winter it is even worse. Almost went in the ditch a couple of times from the semi's gust of wind blowing me over. I am getting an '05 Equinox LT fully loaded in a couple of weeks as I had to special order mine from Chevrolet. I am so looking forward to never driving this ever again. We bought this car new 2 yrs ago and while we havent had trouble with it mechanically, it was a bad choice. My husband was in a head on collision in this car at 40 mph and the airbag failed to deploy. Theres no room for luggage and passengers in this car, you have to chose one or the other. It gets blown all over the place on windy highways & bridges,& the steering is so tight that the wheel turns itself when the tires hit small bumps. It makes for a very swervy ride. The soft top makes a lot of noise while driving. Overall it is fun to drive in the summer, but if its going to be your only transportation, you may want to reconsider.
