2021 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 4dr SUV 4WD (5.3L 8cyl 10A)

I have faithfully owned Chevy vehicles since the early 90’s. I replaced my 2017 Z71 Tahoe for a 2021 Z71 Tahoe and 2800 miles in and the lifter in the engine is bad. Due to the newness of the vehicle there aren’t many parts available. At minimum I have to wait a week for the part to come off the line in Michigan. I have never had issues like this with the 7 Chevys I’ve purchased prior to this. I should have waited for the 22’s

Dissatisfied / regretting purchase

L. Gray, 03/25/2021
2021 Chevrolet Tahoe LT 4dr SUV 4WD (5.3L 8cyl 10A)

This is my 5th Tahoe LT ('03, '13, '17, '18, '21) and I was excited with my purchase back in July 2020, this LT model has been back to the dealership for issues more than the previous 4 combined. Now a failed software update has and will cause me to be without the infotainment system/ radio for up to 3 weeks if not longer, with the point of purchase or service dealerships or GM doing little to address the inconvenience of my having purchased a brand new vehicle without the features that went into the decision to purchase. These reasons have lead my dissatisfaction and regret of buying the initial new model change. I'm hopeful that with my bringing the matter to GM that they will stand by their product and truly be concerned about customer satisfaction and appreciate customer loyalty with more than lip service. I'll send this review and keep you posted.

Battery dies overnight and leaves you stranded

I love the look and drive of my new 2021 Z71 Tahoe. I could not have been happier with it until it died overnight from a failed OnStar update afte only a few weeks of owning it. GM had no fix for it so the battery was just recharged in the service department. 2 weeks later it happed again. It’s been in the shop over 3 weeks now while they try to figure it out. Originally I was told a new BCM computer would solve the issue, then GM declined the order. Now I’m stuck waiting for back ordered faulty door latches to hopefully fix the dying battery issue. Seems like this has nothing to do with failed computer updates, but that’s the only fix GM is recommending now. After waiting weeks for back ordered parts I’m sure it will die again from another computer issue. This is the 3rd model Tahoe I have owned, but it will be my last GM vehicle bc of how unreliable it is.

Best SUV hands down

Family and friends have had Tahoes and I didnt want to spend that much money. However after seeing it on the lot and test driving it, i was amazed and purchased my first Chevy and got the Z71 package. Amazing ride, comfort, handling and plenty of options for safety and comfort. I am amazed at the Tahoe hands down for the 2021 model.

2021 RST Tahoe with Engine Lifter Failure

Stacey, 06/10/2021
2021 Chevrolet Tahoe RST 4dr SUV (5.3L 8cyl 10A)

I have loved this vehicle until yesterday! Bought it in January 2021 so not even 6 months old and has less than 6500 miles on it. This vehicle left me stranded. Driving down the interstate, I heard popping noises and the drive becomes very rough. Three messages appear alerting me to problems with the traction, collision system and engine emissions. The idle was akin to sitting on a tractor...very loud and rough. OnStar performed diagnostics and suggested it was safe to drive but needed servicing within 7 days. Tried to make it home but felt very unsafe so had to pull off the road again and get it towed. Luckily, the ONLY thing that was positive was the dealership's rapid response in helping me. I'm very anxious to drive this car now and am scared that I will be stranded again. Per the reviews here and in other forums, this has happened with some regularity. Why no recall? Why is this not being addressed? Not impressed Chevrolet.......

Upgraded from a 21 Tahoe

Chris Dennis, 02/25/2022
2022 Chevrolet Tahoe RST 4dr SUV (5.3L 8cyl 10A)

With the crazy pricing for used vehicles we upgraded our 21 RST to a ‘22. Overall cost was just a few thousand bucks to essentially take 17k miles off the odometer. I liked the previous model interface and haven’t gotten used to the new Google based version. Otherwise the vehicles are nearly identical. I admit I was nervous especially with all the reports of power train failures. Our 21 was flawless after 17k miles and our new 22 is just the same, although I just cracked 1000 miles so time will tell! Otherwise my review I wrote for my 21 is unchanged. Love the new updates over the 20 ( or in my case, the ‘18 I traded in last year). Better ride, more rear room, quiet and comfy interior. Still don’t understand the lack of fog lights and some interior cheap plastic. Still, we bought it knowing what we were buying and remain happy with the RST….quite the intimidator on the road with those 22” wheels!

The air suspension went out at 1200 miles. GM doesn't have the parts to repair the issue. I would not buy one. I like my old 2014 Tahoe better than this piece.

I picked up a brand new 2022 Tahoe Premier on Monday. On Tuesday I had to take it back for service. The infotainment system does not work! This apparently is a known issue, but as of today there is no fix. Aside from the infotainment system not working we really love the suv. Lots of room, rides nice, good power. Not sure this affects all models, but make sure you check it out before you buy.

Shifting to Toyota due to transmission problems

Mick, 08/27/2022
2021 Chevrolet Tahoe RST 4dr SUV 4WD (5.3L 8cyl 10A)

At the 15500k mile mark we started having transmission issues as in harsh downshift at highway speeds and then followed by a harsh upshift both with a loud bang. We took it to the dealer where we purchased it and they had it for three weeks. The GM engineers recommended they replace the valve body which did not fix the problem and added more issues. We took it to a more reputable dealer and the engineers have now decided it is the torque converter and valve body again. The previous dealer put over 500 miles on trying to simulate the problem. The transmission is also running 60 degrees hotter than it ever has. We are now waiting for the parts and then the install under warranty. I do not see this fixing all of the problems as there were a lot of miles put on this vehicle by the previous dealer with this problem. We are looking into filling out buyback paperwork as this thing has now been in the shop for 7 weeks with no positive resolution from GM. This is the RST with the 3.0L Duramax not the 5.3. Edmunds doesn't show the Duramax as an option.
