LEMON - JUNK - WATER LEAKING INTO VEHICLE

I love love love this vehicle. HOWEVER, I have had it in for service now 3 times. There have been several recalls but the real issue is the WATER LEAK. This is the 2nd time I have had it in for the WATER LEAK and they cannot seem to resolve the issue. The last time I had it in for service for the leak, the dealership had it for over a week. The dealership has it now and has had it yet another week with no date in sight to get it back. I cannot believe I paid over $62K for a vehicle and I am having all of these issues. On top of that, I ordered floor mats from GMC/CHEVY and they do NOT fit. I am very disappointed and at this point getting PISSED! I've waited my whole life to have a vehicle this nice and it's JUNK!

Special ordered my 2021 Tahoe Z71 in October 2020 and finally received delivery December 2020. I absolutely loved this vehicle. Notice I said loved! Just before my first oil change, I noticed a strange noise while driving and sluggish performance when driving to work. We called our Chevy guy and he said to bring Tahoe in for a known issue, lifter failure possible caused from oil pressure issues—DFM is going to kill Chevy sells! Just under 6000 miles with 21% oil life left. Dash never lit up to warn of any issues at the time. Later on, when my husband came to take Tahoe in, he said every light on the dash was blinking. Not sure how long it’ll take to get parts to fix. Hoping it’s a one time thing. Based on other reviews, probably not. I’ll remain hopeful since it’s still under warranty. I’d really love my money back for something more reliable. FYI—my 2004 Tahoe still drives like a champ. We’ve all been fooled!

Buyers Beware

I am an Active Duty Military member who dreamed of owning a Tahoe since my first deployment back in 2010. It took me 11 years to finally take the leap and buy my dream car. I bought my custom ordered Tahoe in March 2021 and to say I was excited is an understatement. It wasn’t until June that I noticed my Tahoe was leaking water through all four areas where the seatbelts come out. I heard a swishing noise and then both of my children (one being a newborn) starting crying from getting water poured on them along with water covering most areas of my vehicle. There was enough water that it saturated a towel and I knew at that moment something was very wrong with my vehicle. I immediately called the dealership and the earliest they could get me in was 3 days later. When I brought my vehicle in, they had it for the entire day and could not find the source of leaking and chalked it up to possible condensation. It was less than two weeks later (19 June 2021) the same thing happened again besides even more water came in and I was able to take a video of water pouring from the seatbelts and my dash. I called the dealership again and brought it in on 21 June 2021. Knowing the vehicle was leaking the dealership left my vehicle outside until the afternoon of 23 June 2021 in which multiple rainstorms occurred prior to them bringing it inside. On 19 June 2021, I called GM customer service and a case was created. Over the next 44 days my vehicle was in the shop getting repaired. A new sunroof frame had to be installed amongst other repairs and I had to beg GM to conduct third party mold inspection which came back positive. Being that I have two children, one new to this world and the other who gets sick very easily and is prone to respiratory issues, I needed GM to do right by my children and make sure they wouldn’t be impacted by their negligence. I requested GM replace my vehicle, instead they had it professionally cleaned and retested in which it came back negative. I am concerned mold could still be internal to all seats and internal to the dashboard since those areas were not cleaned or couldn’t be. I received my vehicle back today and the best offer GM could do was possibly cover 1 to 2 of my car payments. My vehicle also sustained damage to multiple areas requiring it to be repainted in several areas (we're waiting for appointment). Buyers I urge you to use caution when buying this type of vehicle or any vehicle from Chevy/GM. Their customer service is very poor and they will do anything to avoid fully resolving an issue they caused.

Stranded Twice Already

Lester, 06/09/2021
2021 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 4dr SUV 4WD (5.3L 8cyl 10A)

I received the 2021 Z71 Tahoe in December. For the most part this vehicle has been amazing and a total please to use from the Florida Keys to the Smoky Mountain. This vehicle was purchased for long trips and vacations since I work from home I'm rarely using it in the city. On one particular long trip I was stranded in Jacksonville, 8 hours from my home. The latest was last weekend Memorial Day which left me in Melbourne Florida after coming back from the Smoky Mountains where I camped without reception for two days. Both times the issue was in the engine with lifters, cylinders, intake valve springs and engine misfires breaking. As stated by "lemon" titled review it showed an error with traction control and emissions systems failing. The vehicle broke down both times on highways which made it particularly dangerous as it stalls and begins shaking with no power output from the engine. I can't stress enough the frustration this vehicle has brought as i have had to cancel vacations which take weeks to secure. Loosing personal time and money because they never pay you back for the time loss. Save all your receipts and be prepared to pay out of pocket to get back home if you're on a trip because they rarely have available loaners and budget to pay you only for a small vehicle rental to see yourself home and have the audacity to require you to drive back up to pick up your vehicle wherever the nearest Chevy that "fixed it" is.

Forgo the fancy suspension options

Recently purchased Tahoe Z71 trim. I have read many reviews from multiple trusted auto journalists and many of them mention their test vehicle was equipped with the optional magnetic ride and air suspension options. My Tahoe Z71 is not equipped with either option (hence my ability to purchase one..$$) but instead the basic suspension - Chevrolet simply refers to it as "Premium Smooth Ride Suspension" on the build sheet. My first jaunt in the vehicle was 100 miles up old Route 66 near my home. The road is far from perfect, and I did not experience any of the ill mannered ride qualities that many auto journalists have noted during their test drives of the Tahoe with the added premium suspension options. In fact it felt very still and quiet the entire trip down and up old Route 66. It should be noted that I traded a 2018 Grand Cherokee Summit that was equipped with air ride suspension similar to what the Tahoe can be equipped with. I recommend if you are interested in a Tahoe, to drive one without the fancy suspension package options. You can save some serious money by forgoing that option and frankly, from my experience, I think the better riding suspension is actually the basic package! It is unfortunate that Chevrolet gave every single auto journalist the Magnetic & Air Ride equipped Tahoe's for test drives, as nearly all of them have noted it just didn't feel right. I have yet to run across any auto reviews of the base Tahoe without those options. However, I believe the best factor for ride quality is to select a 20" wheel option instead of the 22". My biggest gripes with the 2021 Tahoe is two things. For a $65k vehicle, it should be equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control, and built in navigation. My Tahoe has neither! Adaptive Cruise Control can only be had by upgrading to the High Country model, and then adding that as an option!! Ridiculous!! My Tahoe also does not have built in navigation. You either have to connect your phone via apple carplay or andriod auto and use your phone's, or you have to subscribe to the OnStar turn by turn navigation - also ridiculous! Some perks that are very nice about the vehicle is the WIRELESS Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. No more connecting your phone via the aux cord to connect the Apple CarPlay! CarPlay connects automatically-wirelessly! Genius! This makes not having built-in navigation almost forgivable. The brakes are excellent - they have a strong initial bite which I like in brakes. The Goodyear Wrangler TrailRunner A/T tires are super quiet and frankly I was surprised that at least inside the vehicle was actually quieter than my Grand Cherokee Summit with Pirelli AllSeason's. Another thing to consider if you are considering a Z71 trim... do some research on the LSD (Limited Slip Differential). The Chevrolet comes with a "mechanical LSD". I have learned that the main difference between the Z71 and the AT4 (Yukon), is in the LSD. Chevrolet utilizes an older style mechanical LSD, where the AT4 utilizes an electronic LSD. There are a couple videos online that explain the difference - refer to TFLoffroad & Truck King on YouTube. It seems that the electronic LSD is a much better system than the older style mechanical LSD. On TFLOffRoad, they tested the Z71's LSD up a mountain in Colorado, and the LSD never seemed to kick in for them during their test. TFLOffroad later tested the AT4 with the electronic LSD and it seemed to work like a charm during that test. Nothing that bothers me too much to sway me from the Z71, but something that is not advertised to the public when trying to differentiate between the Z71 and AT4. This may be important for those who are serious about off roading and are considering the Z71 or AT4. The vehicle is still new to me and I might update this review later down the road if anything comes to mind to be added.

Physical & Electrical problem scared to drive it!

Not sure where to start but be warned purchasing a new Tahoe. Started with 4 recalls in first couple months of having. Then Rod and lifter failure in June with 10k miles on the vehicle. It was cylinder 4 like many others who have written reviews. I was stranded 4 hours from home. Repaired and went on vacation in Georgia 10 hours away last week and had multiple electrical malfunctions and lost brakes and steering while driving. Stranded in GA, Onstar and GM roadside was no help getting it towed and never returned my call for hours before saying they couldn’t get it towed that night. I had to drive it to dealership myself. When dealer started it the next day all codes had cleared itself from my panel. Fortunately I took pics of each reading that was on my dash that night. Dealer said it was easy fix and they needed to reprogram BCMS module. Scary to think I could have been in a serious accident with my wife and two kids because of a reprogram of a module. Drove the vehicle home to PA a couple days later after driving around in GA with no other issues. Got home yesterday and this morning tried to start and starter continued clicking noise and then engine made a bang and engine started. Had strong fuel smell and found leak under the car. Oil/gas mixture. GM roadside towed it to my local dealership and they found gave me 7-10 electrical failure codes and said fuel lines need changed. Needless to say it is in the shop again and I am waiting on GM corporate. Physical issues are concerning but electrical failures are frightening when you are driving and lose safety features like brakes and steering because of a reprogram needed!!! My family is scared to get back into the vehicle in fear of electrical failures and causing an accident or something more devastating. To be continued and hoping GM takes acts responsibly!

Extremely happy with the 2022 Tahoe, we needed something with enough room to fit our two giant dogs (mastiff type breeds) with the tahoe we have enough room to keep the dogs behind the second row and still have room for 5 people! Unlike our current 2003 Nissan pathfinder. We originally wanted to test drive a new traverse but they are too small, we would need to fold down some second row seats. It seems that a lot of the competition are going with turbocharged 4 cylinder engines that are pushed to the limit of their capabilities via direct fuel injection. With big heavy SUVs I would be worried about the longevity of the engine and turbo system. I intend to keep this vehicle for a very long time. A naturally aspirated V8 on the other hand is just plodding along at a nice low rumble, plenty of power when you need it. In fact the GM cars have a variable cylinder shut down sequence that will shut down 4 cylinders during prolonged highway driving. Meaning that from an MPG point of view the Tahoe is around the same as a Toyota 4Runner, which is significantly smaller on the inside and a much lower towing capacity. Ultimately I chose to go with the Chevrolet for the above reasons along with plenty of standard features and excellent financing. in the end it was between the Tahoe and the grand Cherokee L. We couldn’t find any to test drive right now and the showroom models left us doubting if there would be enough room for the giant dogs. The ride is very smooth and the handling is excellent for a truck sized SUV. The styling is fantastic and it turns heads everywhere it goes. I couldn’t care less about infotainment systems and have always driven older cars. This is perfectly fine it has all the features I could ever need. The new gear selection system takes minutes to get used to and frees up a lot of room in the cabin. I would strongly recommend the Tahoe to anyone looking for a huge SUV. I would recommend it over the expedition because they are now going with a turbocharged v6. (Again longevity) I would also recommend it over the armada which is plagued with issues, at least until the next model generation of the Armada. Go give it a test drive this might be the perfect SUV that you never considered!

My second car was for many years a 2003 Ford Expedition 5.4L Eddie Bauer 4WD with 130,400 miles and ten days ago I decided to replace it with the new 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 4WD with the 5.3L V8 engine that has 355HP and a fabulous 10 speed transmission. I honestly believe that the new style / design is the best of what you can get on the SUV market If you consider only American made SUVs. This fifth generation of Tahoe has brought many new things to the table in terms of: a better interior, a better infotainment, a better exterior, more cargo capacity and more legs room for the passengers in the back. Nevertheless, the thing that I’m my opinion makes the real difference is having ten speeds also with the V8 5.3L engine and not only with the 6.2L like it was happening with the 2020 Tahoe series. Of course I like very much the 6.2L V-8 engine, which is available only with the 2020 Tahoe or with the 2021 Tahoe in the High Country configuration. I got closed to buy a 2020 Tahoe RST with a 6.2L engine, but then I aborted my plan because I couldn’t stand the outdated interior of it... we are in 2020 now, but 2020 Tahoe’s interior looks like an interior from 20-22 years ago and I couldn’t stand it just for the discount that I was offered. Now ten days later I noticed that the 2020 Tahoe 6.2L is still not Sold and they lowered their price of an additional $3,000 , a price that they were not willing to extend to me back then. So now I own a fantastic 2021 Tahoe Z71 featuring a new color called graywood metallic ( I drove 99 miles per way for this color and other commercial reasons ). The SUV has things that I love and things that I don’t like, so I’m going to list them below: I like: - The exterior look. - The interior look. - The comfort of the driving seat. - The size of the display. - The availability of Apple Car Play. - The size of the panoramic sunroof. - The colors of the interior and the quality of the seats. - The typical wheels of the Z71 trim/package. - the 10 speed gearbox and the consequent responsiveness of the engine. - the breaking power of the breaks. - the Bose Speakers - the rubber floor mattes (extra) - the wireless recharger compartment (but it would have been cool and smart to have a second one on top of the central console since there is still the cut out from the past and that would have allowed also to the passenger to have his/her phone recharged.) - the headlights and the front indicators are really original and futuristic. Now, what I don’t like about my 2021 Tahoe Z71: - the steering wheel material is not pleasant to the touch and it’s too hard. - there is a micro joystick to adjust the position of the steering wheel, but in my case (I’m a tall guy) it doesn’t come enough close to me ( I have the same feature on my Porsche Cayenne and that works better ). - the breaking pedal is not at the same level of the gas pedal. What I mean Exactly is that with your right foot the movement to brake is less safe than other vehicles, because you have to lift up your right foot and then move it to the left to brake. That double action requires more time and it could be considered even an hazard not just an inconvenience (this is really the most important thing that I don’t like). - when you push the OnStar button to connect with a live operator the quality of the connection is always awful and it’s really challenging to understand what they say to you. - The monthly subscription cost asked for the OnStar service is way to high and I will not renew at the end of the free trial. It offers limited features and for around $450 a year you don’t even have a significant discount on your insurance policy. Also as I mentioned before the communication with a live agent has been of poor quality every time I have used it. - the user interface of Apple Car play has room for improvement. The contacts for the phone should be on the left side of the screen not to the right. With all the alphabet letters to the right side of the screen it’s very difficult and uncomfortable to reach there to find some one in your contacts. If you use Siri you need to be very fast to tell her what to do or she will turn herself off very quickly, may be she needs a calibration... ;) - changing the stations of the satellite radio is not immediate and even the favorite channels are positioned in a way that are hard to reach with your right arm. - the engine is very responsive (because of the gearbox), but the power itself could be more. Again this is just my preference... I didn’t want to pay for the features of the High Country version of the Tahoe 2021, but one day later this year the 2021 Tahoe RST 6.2L will be available and for the same price of a Z71 or something less you will be able to have the mighty 6.2L which is a big, big plus ! It has also a slight better gas consumption on the freeway compared to the 5.3L engine of the 2021 Tahoe Z71. Today, I would wait for the 2021 6.2L RST.

2021 Tahoe just arrived in 2020

Having this vehicle for only a month, this is not a complete review. Compared to my truck, a Ford F-150 limited, the ride, steering, and overall comfort is excellent. My Tahoe is a loaded LT. All the amenities, panoramic roof and all other power options right at 60K. My two questions will be to how the push button gear shift and the Continental Tires prove to be. I would rather a floor shifter and Michelin tires but tme will tell how they prove to perform. Some cool things are all three power seat rows and Chevy Icon that images on the ground below the tailgate to wave our foot over to open the gate. So far so good.
