Going for 200K
At the time this was one of the largest single largest investments our family had made. 10 years later, well worth it. We just hit 170K and just had our first major repair - oil seals were leaking. We have done nothing to this truck except the usual - tires, batteries, brakes and oil/fluids. If you take care of these trucks they definitely take care of you.
Most Comfortable SUV Ever
I love driving this horse. it is a cofortable cruising truck as well as a get up and go truck. The V8 kicks in smooth and the fuel mileage is not bad. We have added a few features along with the VCR. All the omforts of home with the exception of a bathroom. Chevy builds them tough, however they also realize that women prefer the comfort factors offered in the Tahoe.
the best suv
very comfortable ride. Driving was fun, for being 55 years old, the drive from Cincinnati OH to Miami FL. was a joy. The quiet ride and smooth Driving did it. I towed a 18 ft bass boat no problems. At one time during the trip did get up to 19 mpg.
Some Room for Improvement
I've driven 4WD vehicles for 16 years straight now - 87 Subaru Wagon, 92 Toyota 4Runner, 98 Ford Expedition & 2000.5 Tahoe LT. While this vehicle beat the 98 Expedition hands down in many categories, i.e. handling, acceleration, fit & finish, etc. I figure for $40,000, it still has some room for improvement. I'm trying to buy American made (if there is such a thing), but I'm concerned that some unnamed foreigners, might be providing a slightly better value in this market segment. The Tahoe is still a global competitor (and I had the first year of the new Tahoe), but don't rest easy Chevy, the big truck market is no longer dominated by the good 'ol USA.
Awesome Tahoe
Great car. Just hit 150k. Handles effortlessly in deep snow and ice. Pretty good off road with 4wd low. Rides smooth when it doesn't have big snow tires on it. Very easy to drive and good turning radius. Handles nicely for an SUV. Hardly any major unexpected problems. Transmission needed work (not replaced) around 80k, but this was after towing a 5000lb + trailer around the country. ABS needed to be replaced around 135k miles. Plenty of power. Car cruises easily at 80mph at 2300rpm's.
