It would be a 5 if not for Entertainment System
The Suburban is everything we wanted out of a vehicle for our growing family. We love the new independent suspension and the over all look and feel of the Suburban. Now the bad the entertainment system is all based on HDMI plugs I tried everything to get it to work and the only thing that worked was a firestick. That is even shotty if you don't get the WIFI in the vehicle. The headphones they gave us dont connect and we had to take it to a dealer to get them to work and they even had some issues with it. We had to use other bluetooth headphones to work with the system. But alas the cargo area is awesome, the panoramic sun roof is beautiful and the power is exactly what we needed for us!

Didn't last over 5,000 miles
Broke down on a road trip out of town, undrivable,in a Saturday I made it to a dealer but no mechanic on that day no rental cars available so stuck at a hotel till Monday with my dog. I bought it for multiple state travel but now I learned the engine has defect that will break down over and over even after fixed as I need to drive 3,000 Miles per month for next 3 months, first new Chevy in 37 years of owning buying them never had any issues, so had to buy another car to get on my way for my son's graduation as I couldn't wait for repair to get done ,and can't trust engine in future for any more long distance travel.so I wasted 70,000 do not buy.

Multiple major issues within 6,000 miles
Own a '21 Suburban Z71. Have had multiple recalls and issues with Lifting/Lowering System. Major issue with Engine Lifter going out at 5,000 miles. Spent 2 weeks in shop awaiting parts and repair for Lifters and Rods and Gaskets. Just picked it up YESTERDAY and now the same Warning Light is already going off again after 24 hours! We spent $73K on this piece of garbage. Smaller issues with Paint peeling off the front fender after the 1st week of purchase. It looks awesome. Comfortable inside. But if it's in the shop all the time, it is useless. GM will only give us $45 for a rental. They claim. I still have not seen the money yet from the last 2 week repair.

Engine failed before 5k miles
We had bought a 2021 Suburban RST in Dec 2020, my husband and I were our way to my surgery and check engine light came on and the SUV started shaking and making weird noises on the freeway. Get home the next day (Friday) and didn’t feel comfortable driving it..take it into Chevy that Tuesday and the whole engine failed and needed to be replaced (took over a month and kept giving us the runaround). Traded it in for a 4Runner because they told us this is a problem with all new Tahoe’s and Suburbans. Will never consider buying Chevy again. Waste of $70k.

2021 Chevrolet Suburban
I purchased a 2021 Suburban in December My pushrods and lifters on the left side of the engine has to be replaced after 6k miles! My SUV is going on week 2 of being in the shop while awaiting parts! I had 2015 Suburban and had to replace the transmission at 115k and pay $4500 out of pocket! I will never purchase another Chevorlet product in my lifetime! I had to cancel my family vacation to Disney because of this!

2 months old with engine problems!
I have a 2021 Suburban with a Duramax Diesel. Its only 2 months old and completely stopped on me driving to work. Major engine issues. 2 weeks in the shop and its finally diagnosed there is an injector problem. Part is back ordered, so I will be without a vehicle for over a month. GM will only pay $44 a day for a rental, putting me in a teeny vehicle nowhere near comparable to the $70k vehicle I purchased. I am ready to lemon law it and get a Kia Telluride with a 10 year warranty. I can understand if I had 100k miles on the car, but I have 5k miles! I shouldn't have major engine issues 2 months into owning a $70k vehicle.

DO NOT BUY
Leased a 2021 Suburban LT in December. It looks great and was a smooth ride...for 2 days. It has been in for service 6 times as of today. Battery died multiple times, service restraint system light, check engine light. It has now been at the dealership for over 3 weeks as they have no idea why the battery keeps dying. GM could care less. They offered me a $100 free car service. As a repeat Chevy customer, it is a shame that this is how they treat their customers. Do not waste your time or money on this vehicle, or any of their vehicles.

Engine Gone at 3300 Miles
As stated in other reviews, these are nothing but issues. Leased a 2021 Premium in February 2021. 5.3 L Pacific NW for climate. 100 miles - rust on frame 200 miles - front driver axle cv boot blown 300 miles - center console stuck closed 1000 miles - third row not secure in upright position 2000 miles - software update for airbag issues 3300 miles - towed to dealership for what is most likely a blown engine, valve train, or valve springs. Heavy shaking, loud ticking noise, check engine light on, all safety features turned off due to engine issue. Unsafe to drive. Had to fight for a rental from GM because they are an awful corporation. This is our first GM product. We wanted more space for our growing family of 5. I could say how nice other parts of the vehicle are, but what’s the point if the basic part that makes it go fails? NEVER buying a GM product again. So glad we still have a third row 2018 Pilot, true workhorse. DO NOT buy it!!! Run!

DO NOT PURCHASE THE $2,500 ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM
The car is great. The entertainment system is a disaster- the worst I have ever seen. We purchased this car primarily for the system for the kids in the back seats because the screens are big and we thought they could use them to stream whatever they want. Not included in the marketing materials is the fact that Iphone's don't seemlessly work with these systems. You have to plug in an HDMI cord and a dongle for your Iphone. That doesn't work either. As soon as you hit the road for a road trip, it glitches horribly and inconsistently. I have returned the car under warranty now three times and they can figure it out. Then they say Chevy won't do anything to solve the issue. We spend nearly $75K on this car and would have bought the Ford Expedition had we known that the entertainment system was so bad. They must have done zero quality control on this before launching this into production. What a disappointment.

Skip the RES, Beware of the Engine Issues
We purchased our 2021 Suburban Premier in February. When the engine is working properly (more on that later) we like most everything about the vehicle other than the overpriced and highly disappointing Rear Entertainment System. The system is nowhere near the "plug and play" one the dealer touted. You have to use a Firestick, Roku, USB of movies, etc. to utilize it. The placement of the HDMI port means that kids are constantly kicking the cables out. We've had to replace two Roku sticks because of that issue. Also, if you don’t turn off the automatic start feature it will reset the devices at every red light. This feature has to be turned off every time you start the car. Total waste of money there. However, we loved our Suburban in spite of those things until a month ago. We had less than 15,000 miles on it when, while we were returning home from a cross-country trip, the engine started running sluggishly and the check engine light came on. Luckily we made it back home. We took it into the dealership, who told us it was a faulty fuel injector. When a new fuel injector failed to fix the problem they said it needed new lifters. The vehicle has now been in the shop for three weeks and there's no telling when we'll get it back as the parts seem impossible to find. They put us in an Equinox loaner car which is equally infuriating. Because of that we're going to have to take two cars for our Florida vacation (we're a tall family of six people). It’s very concerning, to say the least, to be having major engine problems at 15,000 miles on a $70k vehicle. I cannot recommend this vehicle at this time.
2021 Suburban Entertainment misses the mark
I was excited about the rear entertainment system. For a 78k car it misses the mark. The rear entertainment system is terrible. You need to spend another couple hundred bucks for an Apple TV or amazon fire stick set up -which is confusing as the cables are not intuitive. If you have to plug it in so you also have to be sure that you disable the economy start/stop as the stop cuts off power to plug that runs the Apple TV or whatever device you have plugged in in the back. Also advise that you have to plug-in just sits there in the middle and the kids constantly step on it or bump it or bend the cable connector as it’s just sticking out , when they get in and out of the car. It’s not easy to use it and it requires you get a remote with whatever device you purchase. The headsets don’t fit small children. Bluetooth standard headsets take forever to set up correctly and Constantly need trouble shooting. Why can’t they allow sound in the back seat cabin as a last resort!?!? No way that a child under seven-year-old could operate it. And there’s no way to select a movie or operate it from the front passenger seat. The system is a total miss.

New and improved suburban
I've owned 4 suburbans. The Good: The driving experience is great. Cameras all around are amazing. More leg room in row 3. The return of the large mirror is everything The Bad: The entertainment system has two touch screens on the back of the driver and passenger headrests. This is a sight obstruction for me when pulling out of an angled intersection. My kids in row 3 cannot see these screens....and the car only came with 2 sets of headphones. There is no place to put fire stick cords so kids just kick them and walk on them. The auto shut off upon stopping at a light will also shut off their movie so make sure you shut that down EVERY time you turn on the car (also annoying that this comes back on every time you start the vehicle). Generally we don’t use the system unless we are on a road trip but it could be improved. My Amazon music app doesn’t work with apple car play well…sounds like I am listening through a cell phone. The Apple Music app allows for better sound quality. This suburban is a delight to drive. Safety features are fantastic. Wireless charging and bluetooth connections are handy. Much more streamlined than suburbans past.

I want to rate it better...but I can't
Our 2021 High Country offers an elevated level of refinement and comfort with the functionality large families have come to expect and depend on from Suburban. That combined with the new independent rear suspension and finally the grunt of a real truck w/ the available 6.2L made it a no brainer to replace our 2016 LTZ 5.3L. Unfortunately (and based on what I've been reading I'm not alone) the durability and dependability is just not there and it's not a few isolated customers. We purchased ours' in June in advance of two long road trips including a 6-week cross-country adventure. We put a quick 2300 miles on it with no issues before leaving Oregon for the east coast. In the next 8000 miles our Suburban fell victim to FOUR different issues, some major, and all requiring some form of repair. -Valve lifter malfunction / failure that is now becoming chronic issue on this iteration of the 6.2L. We caught ours' early but if left unchecked leads to bent / broken pushrods and potentially catastrophic engine failure (we met someone on our trip who actually had this happen). Outstanding dealership (Banks Autos) in NH replaced all 16 lifters and related parts under warranty though we were unfortunately without our brand new vehicle for 10 days and unable to continue our trip as planned. -Malfunctioning Adaptive Air Ride Suspension. This happened at the entry to the campground we had stayed at requiring us to disconnect our travel trailer and the Suburban battery to get the system to reset. Luckily, it did, but not ideal and completely unacceptable on a brand-new $90K vehicle! -Service Engine light came on outside of Casper, WY caused by a fried O2 sensor that had been incorrectly installed from the plant. Dealership back in Oregon performed a temporary repair to get the light to go away and enable the vehicle to function properly. Parts currently on order for final repair. -MASSIVE oil leak upon return to Oregon. Leak went undetected by sensors and warning system on the Suburban even though dipstick registered ZERO oil. Could have lead to serious internal engine damage had I not been standing in the driveway when my wife backed out of the yard and discovered the lake of oil under the vehicle. While I've not wanted to get acquainted with Chevrolet service departments from coast to coast the folks I've come in contact with in Concord, NH, Casper, WY, and Bend, OR have been nothing but outstanding. GM has also, without hesitation, stepped up by comp'ing us a GM Platinum Extended Service Contract (6 year / 100,000 miles). I'm not sure if that's a good thing or if they are merely hedging against additional inevitable mechanical issues in our future? Bottom line.... My enthusiasm for GM products got the best of me in ordering a first-year production vehicle. Chevrolet has certainly not worked out all the kinks in this design and I would caution any prospective buyer to pump the brakes on the purchase of even a 2022 model until performance and durability data are available.

Transmission and Fuel Power Control Module issues
Right after purchasing, there were various rattling noises in the cabin. Interior parts not held together properly, etc. Around 5000 miles, the transmission stated making a loud whining noise. The issue was a defect in one of the gears. It took the dealer over a month to fix. Around 28000 miles the Fuel Power Control Module shorted and the vehicle would not start. It had to be towed to the dealer. It took the dealer a month to receive a $65 replacement part. Now still under the 36000 miles, the vehicle makes all kinds of noises when turning. The tailgate makes a clonking noise when closing. Too much money for a vehicle with so many issues. Buy some other SUV, not this one.

Set for repurchase, engine rebuild before 12k mi!
Straight off the truck had major repairs, was in the shop for over 30 days in the first 90 days. Then right at 12k miles had a total engine rebuild. 18 months later, set for repurchase. Electronics are very distracting and not user friendly.
Stay away from GM junk!
The exterior style is nice. However, thats it. The interior seats are uncomfortable and narrow. The leg room is ample but they dont tell you how the driver has an annoying foot rest that impedes leg room, and the front and rear passengers have narrow foot spaces. The b-pillars on the interior frame are too close and stick out towards the driver and constantly rub your shoulder and arm region. By the time I finish a ride in this piece of crap my whole body feels aching. Overall, buy a Ford Expedition and stay away from the GM junk( suburbans, escalade and yukon). GM doesn’t build them like they used too, sadly. Don’t even get me started on the horrible rear entertainment system that rarely works. Even the kids think the Suburban is a piece of junk.

Engineers gone wild
The new model Z71 Suburban is quite nice with a few caveats. First, the engineers decided to redesign the second row seats (captains chairs) to allow for a few inches of sliding fore and aft. Really useless feature and it creates significant issues putting in a decent floor mat in the back. We usually leave the second row seats folded up to allow our big dogs access to the rear but the redesign has these exposed tracks that will do nothing but collect dirt and debris. Too bad they didn’t ask... The vehicle looks and sounds awesome though. Really nice design and aesthetics. Would definitely recommend.

The interior room for the new Suburban is nob existent.. Four grown men are not allowed to ride in comfort.. I bought this vehicle I assumed for space.. But there is none.. My new Dodge Charger has more leg room for me and the fellas.. Please G.M.C. improve this asap.. In future models!!!!!

Fantastic SUV
IF you are looking for a top-of-the-line interior, look to the Yukon Denali or Escalade. Aside from that, the suburban is one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. Huge interior, quiet, packed with features, 5-star crash rating, and great performance with the 6.2L. For everyone saying there is engine failure, they are on here as ambassadors of other brands trying to make this vehicle look bad. This is my 8th GM vehicle with cylinder deactivation and has no issues whatsoever.

Love my First Suburban
Have had my new Suburban LT for 3 weeks. Very happy so far. Didn’t think I really wanted a sun roof but love it! The WiFi is great for my grandkids who all like to watch whatever they want on their IPads. I also really like all the safety features and cameras. Go Big or Go Home!
