I came from a 2018 to a 2020 both High Country 3500hd diesel. I only have 2500 miles on it and not happy at all, usually put about 75k miles per year on them. Pluses, what I like better; silver color in high country, push button start and keyless entry, power up n down tailgate, bigger, LED headlights, rear view camera, power extending mirrors. DEF fluid on the side of truck instead of under the hood. Negatives, what I hate about it; The engine has a noticeable thump thump thump while in idle that’s louder inside the cab, my 18 didn’t have that at all, super quiet inside so it’s a big difference in noise. I often sleep in the truck and it’s very annoying. Very rattly all over, gear shifter rattles as you drive, steering feels loose and shaky not like the 18 which felt like a regular hydraulic steering. It is much stiffer suspension for everyday driver compared to the 18. Seat belts are not height adjustable, hard for my 5’2” wife, a little low for me I’m 6’2”. The center console is just a huge big open area with no way to keep anything but a 12 pack in there organized. I purchased the $80 organizer tray which works except for it’s above the light and at night it’s completely dark because the light is below it and won’t shine on it. My 18 had a little pocket toward the front to at least have the registration or insurance card handy while the 2020 is just a huge open box. The poor planning and no thought of the light usage or practicality is dumbfounding to me. They got rid of the sun glasses compartment up high center on top. Cameras are worthless. The 18 had a factory installed echo master system, when you hit the turn signal the screen would show that camera, very useful for blind spots. The 2020 won’t do that, only if you have a trailer hooked up but without a trailer they don’t work. But the absolute worse thing about it for me and my type of work is the backup camera, it only has a fisheye view, which some may like because gives you a bigger view but it’s absolutely worthless to use as an actual backup camera. Why? Because it’s not an actual view of the area you need to back-in to, as if you’re going to hit the wall that’s 5 feet away because the fisheye makes it look like it’s next to the truck. Very annoying and not usable to backup. Another thing are the digital gauges, much smaller than the analogs from 18. White rings around the speedo and RPMs and red needles not typical green/blueish Chevy, annoying. CANNOT remove the white speed limit box on the dash screen, 18 you could. Sirius radio station search is less user friendly, when you change the channel it shows the station name but not what’s playing, my 18 would go to the station right away showing the artist playing and you could go all the way up n down until you found an artist or song you liked, rather than have to click twice just to see the info and then twice again to see the next station. Another huge problem is if you have an iPhone that is linked via Bluetooth, is that as soon as it pairs up it will drop your volume all the way down, so when you leave the truck the phone stays on silent. You can sit there and physically raise the volume while in the truck just to see it automatically drop again. Power seat motors are kind of windy, sounds like being forced when going up. Cargo lights should have switch inside bed. They got rid of the power pedal adjustment for 2020. 2 “spotlight” lights on each mirror have no light indicator in the inside to tell you if they’re on or which side is on. You have to cycle through while sitting inside, not very bright so hard to see unless very dark outside. Overall very disappointed, I had high hopes for this truck, I thought it was going to be a continuation and improvement on the 18s but they just changed it all up. Instead of keeping the proven good things. I don’t particularly care for the little wheels in the steering control instead of the up n down buttons the 18 has. If I was coming from a 2004-2015 truck I could see the great benefits but from a 2018 to a 2020 it’s definitely not an improvement. 10 speed feels super smooth but the 2018 did a better job at downshifting and slowing you down while trailering with the exhaust brake on and tow hauling. Now I’m finding myself really having to step on the brakes to slow down off freeway exit ramps. Sorry long review, just wish I may help someone with it, as I wish I woulda saw something along this review before I bought this 2020

2020 3500 dually LTZ

Wow. The ride is smoother than any 2500/3500 I’ve ever ridden in and not far off from my 2016 suburban! I get 18-20mpg with no load at 70. Over 75 it dips to 15 mph quickly. 15mpg is my mixed driving number as well. Haven’t pulled a load yet (1500 miles so far). The 10 speed and the bed step and improved towing numbers was why I went with the Chevy. Getting in and out of the bed to hook up a gooseneck In my other 2010 dually (ram) is a pain so the bedstep is great!the interior is fine with me-does the job and is comfortable the cameras are fantastic. The camera views and radar that lets u see all around the truck is very helpful. It’s huge so parking it isn’t much fun but I bought it to pull my boat and my 48 foot gooseneck toyhauler (20k lbs). So far very happy with this truck. Classic Chevrolet In grapevine Texas is the best dealership I’ve ever bought a vehicle! Ask for Danny Folmer he’s fantastic. PS review after 6mos- the truck needs airbags because it does squat with a load! Shame it doesn’t come with them other has that I’m still very happy with the truck Jan 2020 just pulled a 25k lb trailer 48 ft long 2500 miles round trip the truck handled it with ease. Got 9 mpg but no issues pulling the load or stopping it. Still very impressed with this truck. July 2021 - updated review ...truck pulls 20,000 lb trailer like it ain't even there! I could however use some bigger brakes when pulling the trailer. The transmission is really good and downshifts spot on with or without a load. I can find no flaws with this truck. I did add a bodyguard front and rear bumpers. 18 mpg at 73mph with no load. 15 in mixed daily driving. 9mpg pulling a 20k lb gooseneck 48/feet long. No regrets love this truck

Not What I had Expected

Just got my new 2022 HD3500 Crewcab LB 4x4 LTZ Diesel, feels quite different than my same 2018 which I loved. Front seats are HORRIBLE, flat & firm, feels like you're sitting on wood, mileage is really bad, getting 11-13 mpg driving the same as before and getting 15-17 on the old truck. Front end has a "shake" or wobble, rear end makes noise on the freeway, the ride is also horrible compared to old truck. Had to lower air psi in all tires to lessen the bouncing. The tilt & telescopic feature has also been changed, new truck you can't "tilt" the wheel away from you to get in or out, also the pedals don't adjust as before. Keyless start is so-so, at times it won't turn off when you press the button, much prefer using a key. E brake is now a "button" I prefer the old style as it's quicker, you have to wait for the E brake to release and see the message before driving. The interior is cheap & dated, very uncomfortable, ride is horrible, mileage is bad. Overall the new truck isn't worth the money and isn't a "keeper" I will be trading it in or selling ASAP.

I traded in a 2018 Silverado LT for what I paid for it in 2018 for this 2021 Silverado High Country 4x4. It has all the safety features including many cameras including one in front which already helped me not run over a stool I left there (it’s a very tall truck and I need a stool/ladder to wash/wax), towing programs which project red avoidance zones onto the screen helping me avoid curbs, it recognizes and remembers which trailer I am towing (I have two trailers), lane departure and adaptive cruise control are effective, among many other features. The Duramax diesel and Allison 10 speed keep engine revs low and save fuel, delivering increasing MPG now about 20 after 1500 miles in mixed driving unloaded. When towing 6,000 lbs RV it does not hesitate, it’s so easy to tow now. Extended warranty for 7 years means I will have a trouble free long term ownership of this flagship truck!

6.6 gas is no slouch

I came from 2017 2500 cummins to this 6.6gas and for all my family does its great. I tow a 33' Rv with a 7800dry weight and i load my 2000lb side by side on a riser in the box with then fuel and a 55gallon water tank and the Gas takes it no problem. I live in alberta and frequent the mountains and other then some real steap grades you dont notice its not diesel. At 60mph or 100kph it sits at 2000rpm in tow haul and never down shifts on mild hills and highway. I do not regret the switch to gas at all.

You will like it too much. If your a truck guy like myself, you feel like the king of the road. Truck drives exceptional, better than my old 2500hd. 445hp catapults the vehicle effortlessly. Dream truck!

Do not buy. I've had mine for 2 1/2 months and it's been in the shop for a total of 4 weeks. It has major electrical issues. GM unwilling to compensate me at this time to rent another work truck and they don't even know when the problem will be fixed. At first they didn't have a fix, now they tell me they are sourcing parts. DON'T BE A SUCKER!

Didn’t have my new truck for a week, computer died, about 100 miles on it, so I am told by dealer, after waiting six montgs for it to be delivered, stranded me in bad weather, im told no current known fix, because parts are absolutely indefinitely unavailable. I am in dis belief that my new $80,000 base line work truck (not even LT or denali) which I though was way over priced but I was in desperate need for a new truck for my business, now im on the hook for $1500 a month and no truck, and they are not wanting to let me return the truck, that will change with a lawyer im sure... Dont buy any new vehicles, Be aware, something is wrong and they are trying to push these new trucks out without good parts and no Quality control.

I liked the way this truck looked. On paper they make it sound great. It is not. 2023 Z71 LTZ with most of the bells and whistles. When hooked to a 7000 lbs trailer it gets 6 to 7 mpg and goes through 2.5 gal of DEF every 32 gal of fuel. Chevy will not help at all. The blame the dealer and the dealer blames them. I'm cutting my loses and buying a Ford or Ram next week. Never again. Gm has lost me for life. 80k mistake. Don't do it.
