Great Service for 14 Years
We purchase a 2002 truck new and we still have this truck, looks like new inside and out. What's great about this truck is, I drive it to work everyday and I have 340,000 +miles and we have never touched the motor!!! Feel safe to drive it anywhere and drives like the day we purchase it. Thanks to all who had a hand on the build and proud to drive a Chevy !!!

Great truck!
Got it used, have had it for almost a year. I've only put about 6k miles on it. So far so good. Only fault that I have are 2 things. The seats set down too low. It feels as if your in a great big truck while driving making it hard to judge the front. I think the torsion bars are wore plum out bc when I turn wheels & hit bumps it sounds as if it's gonna fall apart. I'm a mechanic so everything else is sound. But hey, with 226,000 miles can't really complain. I'd say in its day it was a top of the line truck. Good power. Transmission shifts flawlessly. I'm gonna see if I can get 300,000 on it. Lol. Update: it’s been a few months since my review. I changed the torsion bars bushings & it seemed to fix the problem. Now when I make turns it’s like a normal truck. I’ve had a few problems with rusted out shock mount on the rear but I got all that lined out as well. Overall, one of the best trucks I’ve ever owned. Dependable, rides good, 4x4 works like it should, good power, handles good. Can’t really complain seeing that it’s got 235,000 miles now!

2002 Chev Silverado
Love EVERYTHING about this vehicle and miss it dearly. Totaled on 3-31-2016 because some people don't pay attention/drive and text. Would love to have this vehicle back. Much nicer than my 2007 version. '02 totaled out still valued at $9500 from adjuster. Total shame too because she had atleast another 100k left in her. Shame.

They Should Still Make Tricks Like This
While the new Chevy motors have myriad issues with the AFM and excessive oil consumption, and Ford had their cam phaser issues, the old Chevy 4.3 just keeps running and running. It may be low tech, but it gets reasonable gas mileage and is very reliable and what more could you ask for in a truck?

2002 silverado - none better . .
Purchased new and well cared for. This is an outstanding pickup that probably will go another 100.000 miles on top of its 300,000 miles at this point. only major work ever done is a new transmission 50,000 miles ago when it was repainted. [non-permissible content removed]

02 silverado 200,000 and still going strong
my grandpa bought his 02 for 3,100 bucks couple years ago since then it has had no issues at all still runs great only thing it does burn alittle bit but not to much have to say this truck is really fun to drive only thing that i would say is the ride quality could be improved a bit kinda bouncy
Safety Hazard
My truck is just ok. Nothing spectacular. However, the most serious problem with this vehicle is that there is an air-conditioner solid tube that is routed directly over the distributer, cap and rotor. Every six to ten months, the continuous water dripping onto the distributer corrodes the internal electronics and the vehicle is subject to unexpected stalling without the possibility of restarting. This vehicle is very dangerous, yet Chevrolet refuses to admit this design flaw to date. I have a lemon law case file in progress and notifying local news sources in an effort to save other people from this neglegence.
2002 Silverado R.C./S.B. 5.3L 2WD
Traded my 1993 Chevy which I had for 9 years never had a problem but lacking a little power. This is why I bought another Chevy( 2002 ) This puppy with the reg. cab and short bed will get up and move. It does have the 5.3L which will move it with no problem. I have add a cat-back system, better shocks, and a bed hard matching cover.
My Silverado
110% do it all truck no matter weather or conditions, small load or large, with no worries. All around truck. Comfort. Hard worker. If you want a gentle beast, why would anyone throw away their money on any other?
New 02 155 4800
Tailgate doesn't fit, gaps on sides. Also, tailgate release handle cheap plastic. Overall, nice truck...3,000 miles so far. Quick off the line.
Average Price, Average Quality
Over the past few years the only problem that I have experienced was with the cd player not reading discs. The Silverado is a dependable vehicle I would recommend.
Great truck
Over we have had this truck for 5yrs with little to no problems the down side not good for family or passengers but up side this truck is good for hauling and getting the job done it gets decent gas mileage and still delivers the power

Yuk
All I can say is that anyone thinking about this "truck" should honestly reconsiter. The thing is unusually bumpy, doesnt' handle good at all, is horrible on gas mileage--even on the highway, Speakers rattle at the instant of bass and the walls rattle also...it's amazing that I kept this thing as long as I did.
Silverado V6 Short Bed - Purchased 11/01
Great new features. I purchased the V6 instead of the V8 due to fuel economy. The V6 has power and does not jolt when using Octane 92-94 during fast accelleration. The manual recommends 87 octanes. I have had a little jolt in the transmission when rapid accellaration with 87 octane. The body has double side galvanized steel so you don't have to worry about nicks and rust. Overall, I feel my Silverado was a great buy that will hold its value for years when compared to other manufactuers - QUALITY and RELIABLE.
SILVERADO 1500 4WD - THE BEST!!
Excellent 1/2 ton pick-up. Still strong enough to be called a truck....need I say more. If folks are looking for a vehicle that is basically a cadillac with a pick up box.... then maybe someone should design such a vehicle for them. Please keep their pampered butts away from our trucks! Thanks for the truck Chevy!!
Good so far
It doesn't have many miles, so quality hasn't been tested very much, but my 1998 Monte Carlo is the best vahicle I've ever had. Even better than the 2 Toyotas I had. The Tundra was too narrow for a person with long legs and the styling of the F150 didn't do anything for me. Only time will tell how well the truck holds up.
My First Truck
Great looking and a nice interior for athe base Silverado. Doe's the job of getting me back and forth to work at the dealership. Have added a few "custom options" to dress it up
Best Buy Pickup
This is a smooth riding, but capable work truck. I have hauled firewood to building materials and everything in between. It beats any other pickup in its class for fuel mileage, yet has enough power to get things done. I think GM's quality has improved a lot over the last ten years. I love the layout of the cab, and the special features. The 4.3 V6 has decent power- low end torque, cruises at the high teens of rpm at 65 mph. It handles well and brakes good. When I trade in my SUV I plan on buying a Tahoe, I hope before they restyle it. While I like the current Chevy over Ford or Dodge , I like the style of the 2002s better.
A great truck
Very happy with this truck. Very quiet and great ride. Minor problem with front suspension fixed under warranty. Not happy with factory Firestone tires.
Love this Z-71
This is my third Chevy/GMC truck since 1997, but my first 4WD. I have had great luck with this one. NO problems at all. These trucks continue to impress me. The only ting that I think could have been improved is the grill design and they took care of that starting with the 2003 models. Great truck.
Nice truck but watch for flaws
I have the 4.8L version of the Silverado. This model suits my needs just fine since I don't tow or haul on a regular basis. I currently have about 39K miles as of 10/04. The interior of the truck is nicely put together. The seats are comfortable and there is plenty of leg and head room. The stock Goodyear Wrangler STs are sub-par to say the least. They were bald at 33K miles. I have had no major issues with the truck other than a constant "ticking" noise which started at approximately 20K miles. I was told by GM and my dealership that it is a common characteristic of their new breed of engines and that there is no harm to the engine itself. I'm not so sure of that. . .
Chevy continues to make me proud.
After about 5 weeks I took this baby for a 1500 mi. trip. Then a few months later I hooked a heavy double axle horse trailer loaded with a refrigerator and entire churchful of people's belongings and hauled them on my bumper hitch and pulled them with my Vortec-V6 on a 600 miles round trip. I drove 80 mph with the max AC blowing full blast down the interstate. Other than oil changes every 7k miles or so I have not had to do anything to this truck. At 95,000 miles I swear the brakes or belt would need replaced, but it keeps on keep'n on. Not to mention I feel completly safe in my truck!
Bad Trans
With 2000 miles on the truck, the transmission fluid line detached and dumped all fluid. After re-building the trans, the truck bumps in and out of gear roughly. Been in the shop 5 times now for same problem - only 4000 miles!
VERY GOOD
INTERIOR IS TO SMALL FOR THREE PEOPLE,CUP HOLDER IS A JOKE
Happy to own, sad to let it go
I love this truck. The only reason I am getting rid of it is to get a 2008 Chevy Extended cab (growing family). If you like a quick powerful truck, this has all you need. 5.3L. It is comfortable and fun to drive. fuel is about 16 mpg. i have ridden in all models and to me (comparing same year models) there is no comparison, this truck is heads and shoulders above the rest. whether you are brand loyal or not...you will buy this truck if you drive it.
My Silverado
Bought my '02 Silverado reg. cab SB, 4800 engine in November. I was skeptical about the quality but have been completely satisfied. Tight, no wind noise, everything works well. Love the CD player/radio. After 4,000 miles, it's been perfect. Doesn't handle as well as my last two trucks (Ford Broncos), but the engine is responsive and strong. Wish it didn't come with Firestone Wilderness AT's. Styling is smart, not overly done like the grotesque Dodge Ram.
2002 LS Extendo w/4.8
What a long way chevy full size pickups have came since the 95 I had. This vehicle is pure pleasure to drive. The power of the 4.8 V8 and the new stiffness of the body structure is pure beauty. The truck is as quiet inside as a limo and the truck is solid. LIKE A ROCK! Chevy's auto transmission is second to none. This transmission adapted wonderfully to my driving habits. Thank Chevrolet for putting the beauty under the skin instead of the fad styling of the other trucks. This truck draws attention only to those who really love trucks. The 2002 will be a classic.
Awesome Truck for anyone
Truck handels nicly in all terrains, and weather conditions. the 4.3 v-6 is quite powerful and the automatic transmission is much better handeling than the f-150 or and Dodge.
Do your maintenance!
I got this truck in 2015 with 118,000 miles on it. Since then the only major thing I have had to replace is the transmission which was my fault as it had virtually no oil in it and I burnt up the gears, the rack and pinion (which I changed in 2022 after 20 years on the original) and a water pump. If you do your regular oil maintenance this truck will literally run forever. Do not expect to have luxury truck either. This truck is meant for reliability and not looks but you can customize to look pretty ba. I have the work truck with a 5.3, Im not sure why it won't let me select that option

steering knock
I have a 1994 ck pu that had a steering knock and after a year of complaining (to Detroit) the dealer replaced the steering gear box which solved the problem.
Junk
Been in the shop 8 times. Ruined 4 Serpentine belts, One Altenation, One Idler pulley, Engine Misfires, Tranny bucks and jerks, clutch pedal dosent return all the way all the time.
Good work truck
This is a good work truck with fuel economy as stated on the dealer invoice. The 4800 engine has very good acceleration for a truck. The transmission shifts smooth and the transmission tow / haul selection mode is a good feature. The interior has cab noise that seems a little loud. Ride and handling is good loaded or unloaded. First complaint is the cab mounting bolts to the frame were loose and the dealer had to re-torque them. Second complaint is the anti lock brakes activate at speeds below five mph and the brakes then do not work at all. There is now a recall for this problem as stated by the NHTSA.
