My Malibu has had nothing but problems I was conned it to buy the bumper to bumper extended warranty took it to dealer ship for a trunk leak and an engine code and a water sound under the dash they told me the trunk leak was not covered under warranty and would be $200 to fix with a replacement seal for the break light the water sound was normal the the engine light was because it was cold out it was mid 40's which shouldn't be cold enough to cause a problem in my opinion I tried calling part stores to order the break light seal no parts stores had it nor had they heard of a break light seal after Google searching I found that that this has happened to hundreds of mabilu owners and no recalls have been made although a dealer only part that does not originally come on the car has been made for the issue

Horrible blind spots, out of town for work had a Malibu on one trip and a Cruze on another, seems like the entire design was to see who could create the biggest blind spot. In the market for a new car, at this point I cannot consider a Chevy product

Get the Extended Warranty!

My Malibu is just 3 years old and already we are replacing the motor - in addition to the extensive warranty "maintenance" work we had to have done last year (~ $700 unplanned expenses)!! My dad was a mechanic so I know that regular maintenance is a MUST and we maintained the car well. Still, somehow the rings inside the cylinders failed and trashed the motor.... THREE YEARS OLD??? (I should mention here that our service guy said he'd seen them fail at 3 MONTHS and that it's not extremely unusual for this to happen)... If you do decide to purchase the Malibu for some odd reason GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. NEVER in my 50+ years have I needed one. We initially got one with this car because it was new and my dad had lost his touch as part of aging. When I reviewed the warranty details (which you get by mail a couple of weeks after buying the car), I wasn't sure that it was going to really be worth the $$. I went to the dealership to speak with the guy that sold me the warranty to ensure I was understanding the details properly - he'd been fired shortly after we bought our car for dishonest practices. That made me leary of the value of the warranty I'd purchased so I asked a guy in finance about it (this was 3 years ago so I don't remember who exactly I spoke with - just a manager in finance). HE told me the warranty was "not really useful". Odd thing for a finance guy to say - so I figured he was being straight with me & helping me save some $$..... Based on his lack of faith in the value of the extended warranty and our need to cut back financially on non-essentials, we cancelled the warranty.... Fast-forward to today - the car is under the 5 years but OVER the mileage of the standard warranty (covered up to 60,000; currently has 71,000) and the motor has to be replaced. Asked the service guy - if we'd had the extended warranty, how much would we be paying out of pocket? Answer: $0.00! Without the warranty??? GM is kind enough to spot us 50% of the cost, so it's "only" $4,202!!!

Such a bad car! Dont buy!! Had my car for 3 months bought used but only had 23k miles, my stabilatrak and engine light came on. Took it to the dealership and this car had a recall on it from GM where they switch the oil to synthetic oil for cracked pistons. And turns out mine had the cracked pistons, the dealership had my car for almost 2 months l. Got it back and my car felt funny and it has to go back and have the steering module replaced. Then also before this happened the back window was leaking as I went though the drive though and I took it in for them to fix it and it was fixed for a while but then started leaking again and they wouldn't do anything about it because it wasnt inder warrenty anymore! Worst car ever!!
