Used 1999 Chevrolet Malibu Consumer Reviews
OK, but not Recommended
I have had the same repetitive problems with my Malibu. From automatic windows breaking twice to the air conditioner going out 3 times. Most recently the Alternator went out with no battery warning whatsoever. For having the car less than 3 years (bought new), it's been in the shop probably 10 times. Though nothing extremely major has broken, I do not recommend this car.
Great while it lasted
I bought this wonderful car off of a neighbor down the street. it had 138000 miles on it initially. ran great for a few months, but had a lot of brake problems. one day without warning when i as still under the 3000 mile mark between oil changes, my engine blew out, leaving me devastated. the car died at 147000 miles. i had no warning lights to tell me something was wrong, until the oil pressure light went on AFTER it died. i guess its hit or miss with these cars
Its 3/5/2010 and I have driven+236,000m
On 3/5/2010 I have driven 236,000 plus miles in this car. Over 22K/yr. I have had to do some maintenance but nothing more than usual. The only major repair is the new transmission at 170K. This has been an extremely reliable car throughout and I obviously do a lot of driving and has been comfortable to travel in, I am 6'5" 260lbs so I need some space and this car has plenty. Radio works fine, Blows cold AC, down here in Florida that helps.I had to car in Ohio for the first 10 yrs of its life and the ice/snow/salt did nothing to the outside or anything. Did well in the snow could not be happier with this car overall.I mean everyone has something to complain about but I got my $'s worth
On the Fence
There are things I love about my car, like the get up and go on the highway others I hate. I have the Opal blue, and with the coolant issue, FL sunshine and bug issues, the paint on my hood is toast (talked to others with GM color who've had same issue) Like others I've had the coolant leak, but no brake problems, I'm on the 3rd A/C switch since I bought with 8000 miles on it. (program car)had the tensioner problem and gasket issue and the ABS light issue. I have a leak somewhere in the windshield fluid reservoir no one can find (& labor to pull it is way too much now.) CD's get condensation with the A/C on hi (I'm in FL) and now will not work at all. Was great as 1st car, but ready for new
Big timebrake problems, $$$$$$$$$
I had to ship this one. It was bad. Right fron spinde would not allow for the mounting of the spare. Any spare would run on the calipers. Went through brake pads & rotors like a movie theater through popcorn. Rear shooes did last almost 30k. Pads every 5 or 6 k, rotors at 8-10k. It is the only time I knowingly traded in a vehicle with problems.
