Best Bang For The EV Buck

I bought it in November 2024, but it's the 2025 model and as I'm writing this, it's the end of January 2025. About 50 percent of my driving so far has been in temperatures of 20 and lower to -10. Overall, it's performed well in the winter, but I feel GM needs a software update for the heat pump. The range always will drop in an EV in cold weather and heat pumps should help, but this one should be be more efficient. For example, 2.9 kwh average for city driving when the temp is around zero. My other small complaints are with what is not available on this car. The audio system is barely adequate and Chevy doesn't offer an optional sound system upgrade, not even for my top of the line RS AWD. Also the inside lock buttons and hatch opening button need to be backlit, because they're hard to find at night. Other than those small complaints, I actually love the car and the AWD version is a LOT faster than the FWD version, around 0 to 60 in 5.7 seconds (if that matters to you). Also, it's one of the few EV's you can get with an optional sunroof that opens. Definitely a keeper!

In love with this car

We're about two weeks in and thrilled with the 2025 Equinox EV. Glad we did this purchase before the administration change in case they take away the $7,500 credit. Got that taken off the price at the dealership, plus the only of the other rebates we qualified for, which was $1,500 for a non-GM. Nice-looking car, smooth ride, and while we were worried about it not having Apple Car Play, it's easier to play music off our iPhones than it was in the 2018 Pacifica plug-in hybrid we traded in. The Google app thing and ability to do most of what you want with the instrument panel by saying "OK, Google, turn down the AC," is also pretty cool. The ride is smooth and it has more pick-up than any car I've ever had, but I don't notice that kind of thing much anyway. Like the Edmunds testing, we have also found that this car goes far longer on a charge than what it claims. My husband took our daughter to college, a 255-mile round trip, and it went from 86 to 14 percent. That's 354 miles to a charge in highway and L.A. traffic. It's been more like 360 around town. We got the model with the $8K Convenience package because that's what they had on the lot, but the $34K MSRP base model is probably the best deal. That minus the $7,500 and you have a $26.5K SUV that's really slick and terrific and goes upwards of 350 miles to a charge.

Decent car, terrible infotainment system

The best features are the 300 mile range and large wheels. The infotainment system is so horrible that I will NOT get another Chevy EV unless it is changed. Other than google maps, everything loads so slowly that I rarely get updated Content on the apps before my 15-20 minute commute has ended. Content on the same apps in my phone is automatic and can be played on carplay or android auto immediately. Fortunately I'm about 1/3 of the way into my 2 year lease.

My Equinox EV Broke down after 1,000 miles

Israel H. , 07/28/2025

I thought the car was nice and drove well at first but my brake master cylinder assembly broke a few weeks ago(July 9th 2025) and no one has the part and is backordered until mid September.... This is not an experience one should have. Its a chevy and I have heard horror stories with chevy and ford before. I thought I was getting a good deal with all the incentives so I took a gamble on an American car. I wish I would of just gotten a Kia or my usual Subaru.

Range Beast

Bought a 2025 2LT FWD with the 19” wheels. It just goes and goes. If you are coming from an ICE SUV this will have plenty of power in the FWD version. I don’t need to go 0-60 in 4 seconds. What I do need is range and this vehicle will legit do 300+ miles on the hwy at 70 mph. It’s super smooth, comfortable, and charges fast enough for road trips. 10-80 percent (260 miles) in about 30 minutes. What it lacks in charging speed it makes up for in range. Can’t recommend enough especially if you are considering switching from an ICE vehicle.
