May 25 2021 To: Edmunds Team, Well GM has done exactly nothing to correct the problem they created for me with my 2018 Cruze. So, it continues to be a very dangerous car to drive at night with the info screen in the upper dashboard on at full brightness. I bought the car new from Jim Butler Chevrolet in Fenton Mo in July of 2018, brand new with less than 3 miles on it. So, I did not discover the problem right away. The reason being is that I drive to work in what is before dawn in the winter months. As the days got shorter the problem showed up very well. In the dark morning when I pull out of the garage the computer screen Is on full brightness. For those who have told me, including GM, the dimmer control for the dash lights. It does NOT control the screen at all. No one seems to be able to grasp this idea for some reason, but true. I took the car to the dealer where I bought it and they flat out refused to even look at the problem at all. Even after confronting the service manager for some length of time insisting on the problem being corrected. I contacted GM customer service at the 800 number. They set me up with an appointment at Weber Chevrolet. They gave me a loaner car for a couple of days to see if they could find the problem and where sympathetic to my problem, but the dangerous screen brightness problem continues to persist. I can only guess that GM cannot repair their own design. I also doubt very much that my Cruze is the only car that GM made that has this problem. I have recently noticed that when I drive under an overpass in the daytime the dash lights will go dim and then get bright and even go back and forth as if the computer is unable to make up it’s mind about the light level. This morning after dawn, the dash lights came on full bright and the dimmer control has no control over turning them down or off at all. Am I satisfied with my first new Chevrolet. No ! I feel they should replace the entire computer system and get the problem resolved for the customer at last. W. Steward My Cruze has a defect and a software problem in the computer that they can't seam to fix. The dealer only tells me, "We have never heard of that". The software problem is that the back up camera is on full bright in reverse, even at night. There is no way to adjust it for using at night at all. This also makes it very hard to see the passenger side mirror when parallel parking at night as the glare is so bright. The real bad problem is the screen comes on full bright at night as well and that makes for a very dangerious drive any where at any time at night when it does this. I had to cut a piece of cardboard to fit over the screen so I can drive the car. It has an option in the menu to turn off the screen. But try and use that and it keeps coming back on while you are driving and that is not safe and a pain. So I would reccomend avoiding buying this car until GM gets off their butts to resove this safty problem. Jan 9 2022 Per my review of my Chevrolet 2018 Cruze. GM has had no idea at all about this problem. I figured out the problem with continued use of it. It is a software design problem with the bright screen at night. If you pull the sifter into drive to pull forward at night with out putting the car into reverse first, the problem is there every time. But by putting it into reverse you must wait until the backup camera comes into view before putting it into drive. It seams to be designed like this like you are backing out of a garage. But every time you pull forward with out it in reverse first it is bright. So if you stop for gas, or for anything, it is bright again every time. W. Steward

Go to Piehl motors princeton il if you like a car they will help with the research with any model like the cruze and what to expect. Never had this model but wanted to give it my hard test. It looks nice and drives great with alot of bang for less of the big cost. Thanks to the sells team for all the help with purchase and savings.

3 hour review???

Deeply saddened by GM’s decision to discontinue this GREAT car. My 14 month experience with this car, I feel, trumps Edmunds 3 hour test. Their comments on performance in particular are laughable when compared to my real life experience. I’ve driven my LT to and from Florida (2,500 miles) and found the overall experience more satisfying than the same trip with my 2018 XT5. My lease is up in September 2020 and I note the present leases on remaining Cruzes are a $100 + more than I paid...not the usual outcome for a discontinued vehicle. I rest my case!

Still not caught up with the imports

Got a brand new one as a rental in Nashville. The car seems to handle well with plenty of reserve torque in passing situations and no hesitation when one stomps on the gas. Really impressed with the trunk capacity of this sedan. It held two huge suitcases and some smaller bags. One small item really bothered me...the backup camera. It was so fuzzy and pixelated, as to be almost dangerous to use. I ended up bypassing it and going old school by craning my neck. Interior is not noticeably cheap and the seats were fairly comfortable. The dash, especially at night in my opinion had a cheap toy look, blue readouts on black that didn’t seem especially organized if not outright confusing. For the limited amount of driving I did, I managed to go though a tank and a half of fuel. Not sure of the tank capacity, but consumption seemed rather high. Otherwise it is more than adequate as a small inexpensive sedan.

Okay, listen, when I'm driving my car, and I decide hey I want to go on Cruise, it always pops up saying "Cruise set to" and whatever speed. BUT. IM DRIVING A CRUZE. It would have been so great for it to say "Cruze set to". THATS SUCH A GOOD PUN. I mean, whoever made the interior design HAS no soft spot for puns and that's my only complaint.
