Love 2007 base model Cobalt Coupe
This base model 07 Cobalt had me thinking twice about 4 cyl engines. As soon as I took off in this car, the performance was great. It handles really well on the curvy roads where I live in and the fuel economy is outstanding, 30 M+PG. I was also surprised by the amount of space that is present in the trunk, lots of it. Being that I'm 6 feet tall, I have enough room to sit behind the wheel. I was also surprised to see the battery in the trunk.
This is the last GM I will every buy
I bought my Cobalt as a GM Certified Pre-Owned in early 2011. It was 3 years old and had 1 owner, 32,000 miles on it. It was a good deal... or so I thought. Not including the 2 re-call repairs I have had this car in the shop so many times that a $8,500 steal became a $13,500 robbery. This does not include the minor things I have not fixed: the cheap plastic interior parts are all broken/ breaking, the speakers blown out when I only listen to easy listening at reasonable volumes, etc. The headlamps, turn signals, fuses all need to be replaced at regular intervals (every 3 months!). I do regular maintenance and keep it up too, but it still breaks. Cutting my losses now and leasing a Honda.
Cobalt committed suicide . O.D.'d on oil.
Had a 2007 chev cobalt given to me by a 77 year old lady. 40000 miles. At 54000 miles both front wheel bearing hub units had failed( that grinding noise means they are working), tie-rods were shot( the looseness makes them work easier), struts were shot (remember, they are not made to take pot-holes), ball-joints as well, fuel filler neck completely rusted-out and spilling fuel at fill-up time(hey, the poor gas station has to make money selling you more gas) rear brake cylinders completely corroded (of course they are aluminum, they save excess weight !) , brake master cylinder kaput (did not fred flintstone prove you only need feet ?), fuel lines completely rusted and shot (hey, you can use your nose to remind you where you parked), brake rotors shot(you dont need to brake so often), rocker panels non-existent(saves weight and they wont fill up with sand or snow) , broken sway-bar links (twice, but they dont actually do anything) , non-functioning thermostat (but its not needed except in winter), dead passenger speaker (but as long as one works, what do you need 2 for ? Especially if you are deaf in one ear anyway), intermittent radio display ( fixed by hitting it soundly ever so often), completely rusted-out intermediate steering shaft joint (hey !, you do not even need to use the steering wheel to keep turning ! The shriner clowns should have this vehicle for their act), seat belt for driver does not retract ( good for 'hefty' drivers), AND FINALLY , after its very last oil and filter change it decided to o.d. on the new oil and 'disappeared' all of it a month later. No oil leaks in the driveway or parking lots . No blue clouds of burning oil, no black smoke either. Just vanished. Then going up a hill one day (20 degrees below ) the engine snurfed its last bit of oil and committed suicide, seizing at idle at the freeway entrance. I unstuck the motor when it was home, but the rattle-kathunka, rattle kachunka noise when turning over doesnt sound hopeful. The spark plugs fire but wont even light-up quick-start. Sadly ,i think she is dead for good, but right after changing all those parts!?!? If you dont believe in auto gremlins, then believe in cra**y chevrolet engineering. Me and grandpa, we believe.

Last time I go car shopping alone.
I bought my LS on a whim. Just went to look at cars and test drive some and well, it just kinda happened. Within 2 weeks, I had to take the car to the dealer, there was some major squeaking going on. Found out it was just the hubcaps, apparently they're horrible. They lubed them, but nothing else can be done. I'm now at month 13 of ownership and sitting at home with no car. It has 12,000 miles on it. Went to start it and it just wouldn't do anything. Called GMAC Roadside assistance and they sent "Big Dawgs" towing. We almost needed a tow truck for the tow truck. The car has been at the dealer all day. No courtesy car like my selling dealership promised, No response yet.
Beats a civic all to hell
Car works great, lots of power for 4 cyl. I've had it going 220 km/h, way better car for the money than a Civic. However the electronic power steering failed me but gm has since recalled it at no cost to me, also the front suspension is not built to last, will need struts soon at 78,000 kilometers. The 7 speaker pioneer stereo sounds great with factory XM is a must also the 17 inch wheels look great and car handles perfectly at high speeds, looks great in black with limo tint Windows. Overall very happy with the appearance and performance
