His and Hers
My husband and I both own the 2005 aveo. His has 11500 miles on it and mine has 11300 miles on it. I drive the hatchback LS and he drives the sedan LT. We have driven from Missouri to California and back with no problems. Both of our daylight running lamps have quit working reliably, both the dashlight indicator and the lights themselves. We haven't gotten them fixed, instead we just turn on the headlights. Just recently we have had a problem with the sedan overheating. We are still trying to fix that one. The hatchback has had no major issues.
2005 Aveo: OK if replace timing belt On-Time
12 years later, and I still love my little Aveo. Very handy and easy to drive in city traffic or on long trips. But you have to have a little money set aside for routine manufacturer specified interval maintenance. If you do, this the car is pretty much problem free, offers excellent value and quality for the initial cost, and is an ergonomic gem. I did my research and replaced the timing belt at 58,000 miles BEFORE anything bad could happen. It is not a cheap repair ($700) since the water pump and some other routine parts and fluids at this interval also must also be replaced. But the consequences of not performing the repair are a $2,3000 repair bill and expectation of a week or more of down time to have your engine rebuilt. My mechanic actually had someone else's Aveo in the shop for valve and timing belt replacement and an engine rebuild because that person failed to replace the belt as scheduled. (So if you are flat broke and putting your last bit of savings into purchasing this car: Beware. Cannot recommend to someone in that boat.) That caveat aside, the Aveo is an excellent for city driving and a great highway cruiser as long as it is not to windy. (It is tall for its size.) Inside it is roomy and comfortable. I am about 5'7" and my girlfriend is almost a foot taller with long long legs and she can ride in this car, even though she cannot fit into more than half of all cars on the road, including my S10 pickup. The upright stadium seating is very comfortable for drives up to 3-4 hours. And, the seats are not bad. The car turns quickly and is nimble in avoidance manoeuvres. Stopping distances are short with good tires. That said, the car has only four inches of road clearance and is not meant for off-road travel and can be beached on snow on a badly plowed road with snow mounds blocking driveways. The automatic transmission needs a few miles under it to warm up to allow it to kick into overdrive on below zero days, but it is a smooth, timely auto-shift and drive-train offers great mileage as long as you don't jerk it around with floored accelerations or the stop-and-go I-95 variety. The car is simple to maintain. Oil and filter changes and other small things are relatively easy. Recommend, but with alerts for used car buyers to make sure the engine wasn't victimized by lack of major maintenance. Note: My mileage totals on the vehicle are low because I own/drive three vehicles and baby this car compared to my truck.

Cheap, and it worked for a while.
I bought a used 2005 Aveo automatic in 2007 w/ about 25k miles on it to replace my Toyota Echo. It runs (and the mpg was nice), but has large blindspots in the front corners, so watch for pedestrians while turning & is lightweight so the wind blows it around on the highway. In 2009, w/ 45k mi, while replacing tires, found out there was a bent inner tie rod, which requires replacing this whole chassis ($700-900); it caused tires to wear out faster in the front and the car to wobble between 50-65 mph. 62k mi & the clock broke. After only 64k mi & regular maintenance, the engine died. Better replace the timing belt before 60k mi. Too bad it wouldn't have been worth it anyway. Disappointing.
"You get what you pay for"
I bought my 2005 Aveo LS new...very good value, it's always been reliable, have had no repairs to speak of that I have made, just routine maintenance such as oil change, or other wearable items such as tires/brakes. The car was cheap, at the time I believe it was the least expensive car in the market. Well the car is also cheap, no frills bells or whistles came with it other then AC, shortly after owning it, the horn and the clock stopped working, those were the only "extras" that were on it, hey I still have radio, but don't try to turn up the volume, our speaker blew, so two work now. Yep cheap car, cheap price. You get what you pay for. But it has still gotten me from a-b!
Great gas sipper for the price
I have an S Class Mercedes and Infiniti SUV...when gas hit $4 a gallon, I bought this used 2005 Aveo with 16,000 miles as a gas sipper for the 20,000 miles or so I drive a year for business reasons. I really like it for the price, and consistently get better than the EPA ratings, I get 30 city and 40 highway with the automatic. I have gotten 43.8 before. I do all my own maintenance and it's all cheap and easy on this car. It's crude and flimsy in many ways as you would expect for the price, but it's great in congested traffic and tight parking lots.
Not too Shabby
This car is overall pretty dependable. I drive it to and from work everyday, regularly change the oil and haven't had any major issues up until now. Last night, was driving and heard a pop. I looked under the hood and it had sprayed coolant all over, starting from the passenger side near the air filter box. Turns out that a lot of Aveo owners have had the same issue. The factory thermostat housing is made of plastic and is held together with glue. Mine basically separated into two pieces right at the gasket. Options are buy an aluminum one for approx. $100.. ($91.78 plus tax from the dealer) or use plastic weld to glue it back together. By the way...parts are only carried by the dealer.
Poor handling on the highway;
We found it was hard to pass vehicles on the highway. The tachometer swings wildly and the car gets stuck in low gear, with drivers behind us giving us an annoyed look. The ABS of this car also gives problems when trying to slow down during an exit from the highway. It actually veered offroad into a collision. The car is too small to handle well in windy conditions. Overall, while some may like the head room and driver's seat, my old Toyota Corolla is way ahead of this car in terms of reliability and and highway handling.
this car is not reliable
we have had our car for about 3 mths and it has been in the shop all of the 3 mths except 3-4 weeks. the front end stays out of align and they can't fix it. they didn't offer to swap out or buy back, we had to ask for it. still haven't been taken care of. lets people know that all general motors is worried about is the money, not the satisfaction or safety of the buyer. i'll never buy another chevrolet as long as i live. someone needs to step up and make satisfaction happen and quit using excuses to stall the buyer.
Good First Car
It was my first car I got in High School and owned it for two years. I live in the city so it was PERFECT. Never had any major problems either. I even got rear ended by a pickup truck and I had little to no damage and the pickups whole front bumper was destroyed. I took this car with me to my first semester in college (6 hour drive) Didn't last very long after that. On my way home for thanksgiving the Aveo broke down in the middle of nowhere about two hours away from home. It cost me around 2000 to fix. I just sold the car to my little sister though who still lives at home. So all in all, great car for commuting around the area, but not so great for long 6 hour drives.
Good economy car
I've owned my Aveo for about 2 years. On the highway it gets excellent MPG (avg. 33-36 w/A/C). Decent MPG in the city. In my opinion, the engine is underpowered and highway acceleration can be scary. The car feels very light, which is very evident when driving over 65mph. Exterior feels cheap and dents very easily. It did, however, get very good crash test ratings. Overall, this is a good inexpensive car. It's unbelievably reliable, even in subzero temps. Do not try driving this thing on snowy roads.
80,000 miles, no problems
Hello, I'm reading through all the previous posts and amazed of all the problems that people are having. As of July 1, 2009 I have 80,000 miles on mine. It will be four years old in October. I will admit the original tires were junk, I replaced them at around 20,000 and now have Toyo's. The new tires are wearing awesome, I can probably get around 75,000 miles on them. Other then that, oil change every 5k, rotate tires every 10k. My goal was to get 100,000 miles on it (five years). Gas mileage, I travel 85 miles per day and I have been getting 34-37 MPG
She's the Best
I love my little baby. This was a great investment and I haven't been sorry even 1 day. My husband is 6'2" and I am 5'3" and we are both happy with the roomyness as well as how she handles. I get between 35 and 40 to the gallon and we love her at the pump. We love her so much we call her Cherry. I pet her behind the mirrors till she purrs each night(just kidding) I plan to buy another one next year I just hope that they keep them as great as this one.
Great Car For The Money
Many people make the mistake of comparing this car to a Camry, Accord or some much more expensive car. However for between 10K and 13K this is a great car. Mine gets great mileage, looks good and is easy on the wallet. I think it's the greatest bargain in the US. It's a great car at a great price.
2005, automatic - 65,000 Miles
I've had this car for 2.5 years, I got it because I needed a car and it was a great deal. For city and in town driving, this car is perfect...however - if you drive on the freeways a lot, it is terrible at high speeds/with wind - due to how light the car is in weight. It also is not great in snow...so if you live in the Midwest, or anywhere with a lot of snow in the winters, I would not recommend this little go-kart. It gets stressful in the snow with how light it is - and you cannot get great tires, especially over 14" - so that doesn't help. If you go too fast, you will slide, and if you go too slow, you will get stuck. It is great for nice weathered places though, and in town driving.
Unfortunate Lemon
Have owned this car 3 months and front end pulls upon driving and increases pull during braking. Mechanics adjusted sub frame, replaced one wheel (manufactures defect), alignment performed. It still pulls; yet now in the opposite direction! Too unsteady for a brand new vehicle. I paid $16,400 for this vehicle. Was told sub frame misalignment normal as shipped from Korea and rough seas can pull on frame tie downs.
My Experience with this car, Chevy Aveo
Although the little Chevy Aveo may very well be the cheapest car that one can by brand new, my experience with my Chevy Aveo has been nothing but wonderful . After reading all the Pro's and Con's about the car , I bought one for myself and I love it. This last July 2007 I took a road trip to the state of Minnesota from where I live ( Seattle Washington) qnd that little car ran the best and most trouble free then any other . Performance wise, slightly weak in the mountains but did alright considering the steepness of the hills. In the mountains for gas mileage I got about 32 mph . On the flat lands I got the best of 40 plus miles to the gallon even with the A/C on .
Love it
I love this car. It is my first new car. It gets great gas mileage. Much bigger on the inside than it looks. So much to fun to drive.
A decent if not ordinary vehicle
After putting about 2000 mi on this model, I am generally very pleased with it. The high speed handling is competent, and it feels good behind the wheel. on a recent 600 mi trip on the interstate, I got 34 mpg. Around town I am getting 26-28. It has all the room I need, takes washboard and bumpy roads with grace, and has an overall decent feel. I come from a Toyota/Honda history, so I was very pleasantly surprised the Aveo was so nice. I don't like the fact I can't see the end of the hood or even behind. I'm a lousy parallel parker, and these factors don't help. I'm disappointed the rear has a blind spot. I would recommend this model to anybody interested in economy without investing a lot
Our little pill car
We called this car our little pill. It was white, and shaped just like a gel tab of Tylenol. :) For using this car as a primary means of communication to and from work, I give this car a 10! For having enough room to fit 2 carseats, a stroller, and a passenger, that's it! Forget groceries or driving the mother-in-law somewhere.
Piece of junk
you name it it has gone out or broke while driving. I git this for my daughter hoping this would be a good car.,. All I can say is thank god she is alive and hasn't been killed by the crap of a car they chevy put out. There was a reason I don't but chevy's.
Amazingly Fun
I'm overly pleased with this car. Don't be fooled by the small exterior size. It's very roomy on the inside. Easy to handle, very fun to drive. The fuel economy is incredible. I've driven it around town for a month and the gas tank is still half full. Filling it up is usually $10-$15, even at today's high prices. The engine is powerful considering the lightness of the car, but even with heavy loads it has power. It feels like I'm driving a 4-Door sportscar. The only downside I can find is that there is no true air conditioning, but it does blow cold air.
`perfomance
ery good performance and is good on gas and the color is just right, and I enjoy driving it.
Aveo Rocks
The car is an amazing little beast. It may not have a lot of power, but come on, it's a 4 cylinder. It has plenty for its size. Lots of room for bigger people. Especially leg and head room. I never feel cramped when riding in it.
The Aveo
I got this car in Aug. I have had no problems what so ever. There was one recall but it was taken care of very quickly. For the amount that the car cost it is worth it.
Two Months and Counting
The car feels much more expensive than its price would indicate. It has decent acceleration with the automatic transmission, great brakes, and a fine level of fit and finish. The steering is nimble and precise, with good smooth ride quality. During sharp turns, you'll notice how skinny and unsupportive the front seats are. The brake and gas pedals are very close together, and if you have big feet or drive wearing boots it's easy to hit both pedals at once. This is my first new car. Previously owned newer Toyota Tercels. This car spanks the Tercel like a homeless dog.
Reliable and easy on the gas!
Best features on this vehichle is the reliability and the gas mileage. These were most important to me as I drive 100 miles RT to work M-F. Storage space very good, both inside the car, and the trunk. A bit noisy on the highway, and really lacks power up hills....but still overall, drives pretty good. I haven't had any major problems, just bad tires, or a car that creates bad tires, don't know. The price reflects the car you are buying, just the basics! Meaning, no power anything, and just AM/FM radio, but then I just bought the car to get me from work and back, and it does that just fine. Price unbeatable.
A base car for the commuter minded
The cabin is well thought out, and is roomy for an econobox, the controls easy to read and use, but pedals are too close to each other, and too small. Seats are roomy and have good side bolster, and are also height adjustable. The rear seats are high and ok for kids. Performance is what can be expected for 103 horses, but more than adequate for on ramps to the interstate. The trunk is plenty roomy and rear seats fold down. Style wise...well who cares this car is for commuting, and economy which in the city is about 30, and 40 mpg on the hwy. The Aveo is an economy car, and doesnt pretend to be anything but. Smart car, great in traffic, and at the gas pump. I got a new 04 with air, for $8300.
I Love My New Aveo
I love my new Aveo. Its comfortable, large, rides good, is quite, and the gas mileage is great.
My Car
My Aveo is 2 months old and so far I love it. It is great on gas and runs well in the snow. I recommend this car to anyone who is looking for a compact car with a lot of room.
Got to love it
I have had my Aveo for 8 months now and I am thrilled with it. I have been averaging 35 MPG in city driving and about 42 on the highway. My car has been an absolute thrill to drive around the hills of West Virginia. I cannot think of anything that I would change about this car.
Great Little Car
This little Chevy Aveo of mine Has been one of the trustworthy running cars I have ever owned . I now have over 40,000 miles plus on it , And it's never been in the shop for repairs . It's been to the Mid-west from the west coast and back over the Mountains and this little car ran great even at speeds at 85-mph And this car gave me no pains at all. The only time my car has been in the shop was for an il change. This little car has a super great turning rate . One can do a U-Turn in a tighter spot than any other car I have ever known to do . This little car is fun to drive .
It's not a muscle car
It took me a while for me to remember the last time you could buy a brand new car for less than 7k. I'm impressed with the economics of the deal. It's a fun a little car to drive. I hope the information on the fuel economy is accurate.
Basic run-around car
Great car to run errands with, take to the stadium or downtown to dinner and a show. Easy to park. Comfy enough for four on a short excursion. Not for cross-country. Roomier than it looks. Reminds me of the VW's of my youth
**GREAT VALUE**
We just bought the 2005 Aveo with AC and got it for $8397.00, it was a fantastic deal. Best warranty out of all Chevy vehicles (that was a plus) We commute 100 miles RT to work and back and needed something CHEAP all around! CHEAP on fuel consumption and cheap to buy! Very good value for this car for sure.
Great Gas Mileage
I love this car, it has get up and go,its roomy, the car looks very small on the outside, but on the inside its bigger. Its fun to drive, and I get great gas mileage with this car.
A Good First New Car
I purchased this car last month and it is my first new car. So far it has had no problems at all. The interior is huge for a little car (bigger than the Echo) . I would almost say that it feels like driving a small minivan. Pick-up is pretty good for a small car. The interior design reminds me very much of the interior of the new VW Beetle - and to a lesser extent, the Jetta. This definitely does not look or feel like an American-built car (which it isn't).
Busy Mom/Teacher vehicle
Fun to drive, great on gas and for a busy teacher on the go it is great. It has ample room for 3 teenagers to travel. I love the CD player and keyless entry features. I am averaging around 29 to 32 miles per gallon go to a from work.
I love this car
I love this car. It's perfect for city driving. The interior is so roomy and designed to look sporty. The exterior has a futuristic sort of look to it. I've had one problem with it. Whenever I accelerate from a complete stop, it makes a popping noise. Still a fabulous car!
3 deer later...
This was my 4th car, and I had a SUV before hand. I wanted something better on gas and found my Aveo. Its been a great car, although my friends give me a hard time about it, I can always remind them that I pay a fraction in gas and car payments that they do. I've had it almost 3 years and have hit 3 deer (ahh life in the country). Glad to report most damage ever done was a dented hood and a cracked head light. By far the best car I have ever owned, its good on mileage and handles great.
One year with the Aveo
I bought an automatic LS in Feb 2004. After one year I still like it just as much as when I bought it. It really is much bigger on the inside than it has a right to be. Seats 4 adults comfortably, even for long trips. The dashboard "trays" are really useful. I get 27 MPG mixed / 35 MPG highway. NO mechanical problems first year, one recall for rear seat belt guide.
Jenn's car
This is my very first new car and I love it! I checked this car out before making my purchase and every person that I knew that had one said " It's a great little car!" I feel the same way! I was also glad that it had a 5 star crash rating!
Excellent value, great gas mileage
Have had car for 3 months, plenty of city and highway driving - seems to be pretty well built. Gas mileage is incredible - even with A/C on - getting about 26 to 28 in the city with an Auto transmission. Car can do 80 MPH on highway with ease, complains a bit passing at that speed, but all in all, a decent ride for the money. Good job Chevy.
Good car
I have had my Aveo for about 3 months now and I think its great. I'm getting about 28MPG city. I sometimes have to haul large packages to UPS/DHL to ship and this car can handle just about anything. You can even put a 27" TV in the box in the front seat with no problem. I am very happy customer.
Great Car for Awhile
I loved this car when I first bought it. As a single mom though, I had to finance for 6 years to afford the payments. Now, the car was in the shop for 3 out of the last 4 weeks for various different and expensive reasons. Apparently it is really hard to get the parts you need. Of course, that could be my mechanic's way of buying more time, but if the car had lasted past its warranty I don't think I would have had to deal with a mechanic other than a dealer. Bottom Line: If you buy an aveo, do not keep it past about 50,000 miles or so unless you have at least 2000 saved up for repairs.
Ash review
Been driving ny LS Sedan Aveo 2005 for a month. Till now good value for money. Goes about 415km on a full tank {with AC on}. Very spacious on the inside. Silver is perhaps the best colour here. I got my windows tinted silver..so it looks cool. The pick-up is not very powerful but once a speed is attained it cruises smoothly. The fuel indicator is very dim and fluctuates. The seat has no height adjuster. AC is very effective. Engine is spaced out neatly for air to pass around. Have overall enjoyed till now. I would recommend it if you are looking for a decent value for the money.
Better than they think!!
I hesitated for almost 2 years to buy our next economy car and I sure am glad that I did. Because the Aveo is a GM takeover project (from the Daewoo), it does not recieve the credit it deserves! The Japanese always recieve the Champions banner for their vehicles, but for the money, the Aveo is really an excellent choice. The engine is sufficient in power, but it would be nice if it did have maybe a few more ponies. But the vehicle overall is really a great bargain, in today's economy.
great car for the money
didnt have lots of cash and needed a car real quick the gas milage is not what they say it is but it never is. other wise its fun it handles great and with my bad back its easy to get in and out of I am 5 ft 11 in and weight 250lbs and its still very comfortable with pleanty of head room more than the impala I was really surprised if you dont have lots of cash and need a reliabe car to zip around in this is it
Great Car!
I spent a lot of time researching cars before I bought this one. It is definitely the best one out there for the money. Of course you are not going to have the power of a BMW, but you didn't pay those prices. This is my first car and it is the best choice that I could have made. I love to drive it.
Good Bang For Your Buck
Totally amazed with Aveo's power, styling and comfort considering its an economy car, and very inexpensive. Would definitely recommend this car to anyone thinking of buying an economy vehicle. Once you master how to utilize the hold button on the automatic which I purchased, this car is awesome.
I love this car!
This is a perky little car. It handles beautifully, the climate control is great, the CD player and speakers are wonderful. It is very roomy, and everything I need is within reach. There is nothing about it that I don't like.
