Got this car from a relative at 100,000 miles. It was by far my favorite car that I've owned. It was well maintained, and never gave me any problems at all. The driver window motor did eventually go out, but that was really the only problem I ever had. It felt like a luxury car, and the supercharger made it really fun to drive. I put 30,000 miles on it in a year, but it drove like brand new. It got pretty good mileage (I averaged about 23 MPG) It was a safe car too, someone rear-ended me on the freeway doing 50 and pushed me into the car ahead of me. Unfortunately, this totalled my car, but my passenger and I walked away without a scratch. I'd buy this car again in a heartbeat.

We bought this car new in 1998 at a dealership in Phoenix and it is loaded. We liked the styling and comfort along with the sporty feeling it has. Over the years we have had to replace the alternator, plugs, wires, HVAC head, front rotors twice, blower motor and steering rack. These items are minor to me and do not sway how I feel about this classic cruiser. Love the supercharger and handling. It is in the body shop right now getting a new paint job as the water based paint from factory was peeling off on all of the horizontal surfaces. Can't wait to get our rocketship home again. It is worth putting the money into fixing as new car payments are outrageous. Great road car. Update....still going strong with 178,000 miles. Still love this car and it is still like new inside and out. I get lots of compliments on it and even a few offers to purchase it from me. No way.

I was looking for a comfortable inexpensive car for my long work commute. I stumbled upon this car and went for it. I'm glad I did!!! this thng is a rocket. I like to keep quiet on the power with friends and then 'get it on' on a on ramp or something and watch the expression on their face!! when they we NOT expected the car to explode to 80MPH in a few seconds !! yeah I'm believer in the Buick GS or any other Buick hot rod they'll probably be my preferred work communte car forever!! I hate slugs. I like the car so much I think I'm going to do a few engines mods to really wake it up.

I'm 18, so you don't see many people my age driving this car. However, I needed something with more legroom than my Camry that I had. I've owned it for 8 months, and other than the window regulator needing replaced, no problems. Just took it on a 600 mile trip and the car does not have a single rattle or shake anywhere, cruise control and comfort of the seats on that long trip were amazing. This car still drives like a new one, and Buick has made a lifelong customer out of me, don't miss the Toyota at all, this car is just better in all aspects. MPG is not bad for a car of this size, about 28 on the highway.

This has been a great car. I bought it at 130,000 miles, and put on another 30k. The drivetrain is awesome. Good styling inside and out. Surprisingly quick for a big sedan. I'm also getting good fuel economy with an average of 23 mpg, and almost 30 mpg on the highway. Very smooth ride. Warning, flush dex-cool out right away. If not flushed, it will slowly rot out intake gaskets. It's not severe but your gasket will start to seep if you never change your coolant. If you maintain this car, it will be a great car. I'm very satisfied with this car. In my opinion, it's just as good as all the more expensive imports.

I purchased a 1998 Buick Regal LS for my first car for $3000 with 133,XXX miles. What caught my attention was how easy it was to drive. The car practically drove itself! You could steer with your pinky finger and the ride was so smooth. I loved the heated leather seats, the Concert Sound system, and the whole car in general! I only had 2 issues with my Regal- 1. The MAF sensor and a vacuum hose had dried out so my car would stall going between 30-40 mph, but once these were fixed the car was the love of my life. The seats were so comfortable and the suspension was so supple yet could act swiftly if necessary. Legroom in the front and rear were great as well as the gas mileage (31 MPG highway OMG!). The second problem was my rear brakes failed. I had stopped at an intersection and noticed my brakes felt a little spongy out of nowhere. I made my turn and I was going 38 in a 40 and the woman in a Wrangler in front of me slammed on her brakes. When I slammed on mine, the nose dove down and the ABS activated but a split second later I could feel the brakes quiver and give out. I tried to steer out of the way but couldn't and ended up slamming into the back of the stopped wrangler at 34 MPH. My airbags went off and I hit it hard enough to make me black out for 30 seconds. I had to kick my door open and saw the front end had slid under the Jeep and the passenger compartment almost slid under too. Without that Buick I would probably have been more injured than just having airbag burns and a bad back (from my backpack slamming into the back of my seat). That car that I had loved more than anything had saved my life. I was forced into a Lexus after this but once the Lexus is gone, I will forever only buy Buicks and Cadillacs for the rest of my life.

Great looking car, but every winter my heater turns my lights off. Major electrical problems, plus the Dexcool builds up an oily residue in my coolant system and I have to flush every year, not every 5 like they state. Try to stay away from this car.

1998 Regal GS 3.8 Supercharged

Bought the car used with 12,000 mile bumber-to-bumper warrantee. Had to replace both front and rear brakes under warrantee. Drivers window switch touchy in humid weather. Cup holder very poorly placed and cheaply made. "Sport shift" option too easy to turn off by accident. Upside? Looks very sharp - tinting windows and adding vent covers helped. I surprise a lot of people with the 3.8 supercharged engine - very few 4 doors on the road are faster. I had a 91 Pontiac Bonneville (non-supercharged) before this and the difference is dramatic. Too bad (good thing?) it's electronically governed to 115 MPH.

I sold my Trans AM just in time for another Ohio winter and wanted something with good power, luxury options, and something that would get me through the snow safely. What better than a fully loaded supercharged V6 FWD vehicle? Fast forward just over five years and nearly 100,000 miles (putting it at around 160,000 miles total) I've found this car to be everything I could've hoped for and much more! Other than some minor electrical problems this car has been a dream mechanically. I dread my upcoming family vehicle purchase because this one really has spoiled me... but it's done so well we're keeping it as a daily driver to/from work, 200,000 miles here I come!

Toe to Toe with Toyota

Original used Toyota as benchmark. Regal matched Toyota w/o paying the premium. Have owned GS and LS. (98&99) Love the supercharger but it has added to service costs. 2X CD failures in factory radio. Change oil every 3K and service transmission + filter change every 2 years and this car will get you down the road in comfort plus tight handling (GS). LS fast enough just have to stomp on gas to get the performance. Electric Windows are the biggest weakness. I just lost my GS to freakish but major engine fire. Something shorted at firewall after my daughter got home from church. Even with freakish engine fire will likely replace this with another Regal.

This is a car to love. I bought it at 44,000 miles and have replaced only the tires. It is at 94,000 now and going strong! I love the speed but it can be a little too floaty above 85. I love the stereo, heated seats, sunroof, and leather interior. I would buy another in a heartbeat. Very reliable and a great "sleeper" at stop lights... : ) I hope it lasts another 100,000 miles! Safety is also important. I had someone stop me at a gas station who said his wife was in a very bad head-on accident with this car and walked away unharmed. Great car!

This car is very responsive on the road and gets excellent mileage (3800 engine is an excellent engine). Lots of room inside (6'4" driver). Cup holder in terrible place. Door alignment is not good and small things have gone wrong. Latch on center consul, lock on power windows, small glove box, squeeks in door and dash. Overall a good performer with just those minor problems.

This has been a great car to drive. However there have been a few things that are very annoying. Mainly the wheel noise is horrible, the cup holders for the front are VERY inconvenient to use. And they are placed in the wrong angle. It makes it very difficult for the driver to reach their cup as it is in a ackward position to begin with. I had to replace the battery and the blower fan mower at less than 100K miles on it.

Excellent power for a 6. The 3.8 super- charged combo is a great alternative to an 8. However, cheesy plastic interior components reveals GM's weak build quality of the late 90s. I bought mine w/78K miles on it and have since replaced a rear window motor and now the ac compressor is shot at 100K. A decent car to own, just get one that was serviced properly & pampered - mine wasn't.

I bought my car in 2007 and at the time of buying I did not know it had all the problems it does. I have to get the turn signal switch fixed ($700), brighter headlights ($100), sway bar (200) and an alighment ($70). And now I'm having another problem where sometimes it stalls out and yesterday it wouldn't start for me and when I did get it started I had to turn off the radio and the security light was on. Many problems but an overall good car.

I simply cannot say enough in favour of this great car. I had a Cutlass Ciera before this and the Regal way outclasses that as you might expect. I wanted a cruising-type ride as I have a long freeway commute every day, and something that would handle IT tech calls to businesses with comfort and classy style. Back then "Government Motors" could sure build 'em. 96K miles and routine maintenance only. This is a tank-- solid and safe and substantial in every way. Not sportscar handling, but that's what Pontiacs (were) for. This will float you down the interstate in a plush cocoon, and deliver you calm and relaxed. It's automotive comfort food, nearly perfect. Ps. Look for Canadian-built.

I bought my Regal LS with 17,000 miles on it - previously owned by an elderly couple that rarely drove it very far. Since then I have put 100,000 mostly hwy miles on it and had only two costly repairs: replace valve gaskets @104,000 and replace starter moter @111,000. I try to keep my cars forever and 'over maintain' them, but 10 years is about the limit for a 90s GM car, unfortunately. Little things start adding up: sealed headlights are starting to fog up as moisture gets into them, trunk seals are failing somewhere letting rain in, plastic exterior trim pieces are starting to show their age and lack of quality. Too bad - I think the engine will run forever.

I'm only 18, so I know I'm not the typical Buick driver. I had a 98 Toyota Camry, but it was too small and was starting to have problems, so I was looking for something both larger and American made. I found a great deal on this car, with only 53,000 miles on it. Its black, it looks great, I love all the room, it performs well, and it does awesome in the snow. I really like the car, and would pick it over the Camry any day, and because they're the same year, I feel like I could do a pretty good comparison. 3800 is a great engine, my next car will be a Buick.

I have owned my Regal for over a year. I am very happy with the performance-- straight ahead performance is great for a sedan and leaves annoying sport compacts in the dust--and also happy with comfort and powertrain reliability. There have been too many minor problems however...I wish GM would spend the extra dollars to buy higher quality interior and amenity equipment. Power window switches keep dying on me, the heated seats malfunctioned and burned the leather, the console has some sort of rubber coating that is peeling off...etc. Overall, I love my Regal but I must admit that while the stuff under the hood is bulletproof, the rest is mediocre.

I bought this car fresh out of college planning ahead for a family. I have owned it for exactly one year with no regrets whatsoever. With leather, a great sound system, fog lights, and a sunroof it's a blast to cruise around town in, even without the supercharged engine. The interior styling uses a little more plastic than I would like, but the exterior lines are well coordinated. I would highly recommend this car to anyone looking for a well designed 4 door ride.

I fell in love with this car the first moment I saw it. With 240 horses under the hood this would be granny mobile can run with most sports sedans/coupes. However how many of those same sports sedans offer heated leather seats, dual climate control, power sun roof, traction control, and the list goes on. On a recent cross country trip from NH to CA I averaged almost 27mpg!!!! I'd like to see a competetor boast those kind of numbers. Case in point, this is a great car.

Everyone should know by now what a sleeper of a car this is. The power was awesome, the elongated leather seats were the best on my back although some extra side of seat firmness would have helped. The engine was flawless until about 90k when the supercharger pully bearing started to fail...otherwise, it was perfectly reliable. The only complaint is that the front-end was a little long and tended to scrape on declining-to- street entries. Mine is gone now - the victim of a side impact directly on the B-pillar from a Dodge 2500 truck. I miss the car but most importantly, it was built well enough to save my girlfriend's life. Easily, best in its class - it was just never properly promoted.

Like some other GM cars (namely the Corvette and Camaro Z-28), the Regal GS has a lot of "bang for the buck". I bought my '98 GS mainly because my wife's '00 Regal GSE is such a reliable and fast car, and so I decided to get one too. Neither car has given us any problems. The car dealer suggested regular preventive maintenance for the engine and tranny, which should pay off in the future.

This car has served my family well. For 9 years it has been extremely reliable which I wouldn't expect from a Buick. We have rarely put money into the car. The electronic displays for the heat/ac died a few yrs ago and it was over $600 to fix (we didn't) and the back inside door panels are coming off with very little backseat use. Those are my only complaints. It really is a great car.

I bought this car used with almost 42,000 miles on it. The only thing that caused problems so far is the alternator. It went south at just over 42,000 miles/6 months of ownership. I have the cloth interior (which I like). Bad cupholder and carpet is coming loose on front driver and passenger sides. Window lower moulding trim (black) is corroding and rusting (don't know why). It has be a CA car all it's life. Hope to get another 100,000 miles out of it.

I also own the 98 LS version. 200 HP is fine for anyone, but once you get used to the 240HP with 280 torque, you'll need to buy a V8 truck to find the equivalent zoom.

Major problems-a heated seat cover had to be replaced (warranty); fading temp control unit replaced twice under warranty, however this may have been my fault due to pulling running light fuse; control unit for locks and windows replaced (my cost); Minor problems: minor dash squeak fixed by dealer (no charge); trunk had minor leak until I sealed fasteners and crimped areas with silicone.

I got this car a 1998 Buick Regal GS supercharged 3.8 5 years ago used with 194 k miles on it, it was very well maintained all the bells and whistles, and i Love it as much today as the day i drove it home at almost 300 k miles she still drives like new and will do 0-650 in under 5 seconds i still get grate mileage!! i plan on getting another 200 k out of it and am making plans to rebuild it and mod the engine
