Used 1998 Buick Regal Consumer Reviews
What a nice car
This car is a great comination of style and performance. Only repairs I had to do was replace the alternator at 32,000. I love this car
Excellent car for the money
Like some other GM cars (namely the Corvette and Camaro Z-28), the Regal GS has a lot of "bang for the buck". I bought my '98 GS mainly because my wife's '00 Regal GSE is such a reliable and fast car, and so I decided to get one too. Neither car has given us any problems. The car dealer suggested regular preventive maintenance for the engine and tranny, which should pay off in the future.
A fun car but just another GM
Excellent power for a 6. The 3.8 super- charged combo is a great alternative to an 8. However, cheesy plastic interior components reveals GM's weak build quality of the late 90s. I bought mine w/78K miles on it and have since replaced a rear window motor and now the ac compressor is shot at 100K. A decent car to own, just get one that was serviced properly & pampered - mine wasn't.
My Experience
My experience has revealed the reliability of the vehicle has been excellent and feel it is due to the quality of the workmanship. It is economical to drive. Have found it to be a very comfortable auto for traveling on the highway. Only wish they would modify the exterior somewhat. Getting ready to purchase a 2003 model but wish the colors were not so blah...need more color!
Nagging Problems
Lots of power and decent gas mileage. However many nagging problems. Both rear window regulators went out, $700 to fix, rear brake calipers replaced $500, Ball joints need relaced $700 more. Japanese cars I feel are much more reliable.
