Used 1992 Buick Regal Consumer Reviews
Road Car 3800cc V-6
This is a "man's car" in that it is very powerful and appeals to those who like to work on their own. I purchased it in 2003 with 112,000 miles and have gone to 175,000 with numerous long distance trips to Cleveland, Jamestown (W. NY), Boston, and Beaufort, SC. Repairs: fuel pump, motor mounts, struts, rear calipers, ign coils, brake hoses, two window motors, wheel bearing, altenator, turn signal/stop light control unit, and several motor mounts. The cost of inspections, maintenance, and repairs has come to $.16/mile over 10 years. The vehicle only cost $1,200 and was not well cared for before I purchased it.
Best Car I Will Have Ever Owned
I bought the car without really knowing what I was getting. The features were attractive, especially exterior along with the radio controls on the steering wheel, express drivers side windows, comfortable cloth seats, lots of interior space and a large trunk, wire wheel covers, electric remote trunk release, electric retractable antenna, and more. But, what I really came to appreciate, and has been the heart of this car, has been a 3800 V6 Engine w/ TPI. After 265,000 miles I am still happy with the gas mileage, although a broken gasket on the central port just recently was replaced to hopefully return the mileage to 17/27. I laugh at drivers who don't enjoy driving in snow like I do.
My Baby
THIS WAS MY FIRST CAR AND I LOVED IT. THIS CAR WAS SUPER RELIABLE AND IT NEVER LET ME DOWN. I WOULD REALLY RECOMMEND THIS CAR.
V6 handles very well, very reliable
I bought this about three and a half years ago with 80,000 mi. The body was in excellent condition for a car that was over 10 years old, no rust. It now has over 125,000 and still looks beautiful (despite the damage from a little run in with a deer). I've had to do very little routine maintenence outside oil changes (serpentine belt replacement, o-ring replacement, fuel pump, and starter). Smooth ride on the highway, hasn't given me too many problems and surprisingly decent gas mileage.
The legacy car.
My grandparents bought this vehicle new in 1991. It was handed down to me a few years ago, and still serves as my primary car. The car now has 201,000 miles on it, and is still serves reliably. The only service this car has needed since new has been the replacement of the alternator, which could not have been easier for me. These vehicles with the indestructable Buick 3800 engine will last forever.
Older, but don't want to give up motor
Purchaed in 2/1992 and have had to only replace water pump and turning signal box. I live in Texas so the heat has wrecked paint job, leather seats in front. Last 3 months though radiator sprung leak, power steering and some basic electrical (1 power window, sunroof off and on again. It doesn't look great, but afraid to get rid of it. I've left many cars in the dust with speed of take-off (fast motor). Fuel injected if that makes a difference. Wish I knew if engine could be stabbed into another car. I would do that in a heartbeat. Oh year, when A/C worked it froze you out, even in 100+degrees. Love this car(and when I bought it I thought it was a granny car) No way.
My first love.
How many 20 year old males do you know, that are dying to own a Buick Regal Gran Sport? This was me, every day, asking my neighbor lady to sell me her car. One day she came home with a new car, & told me where I could find her 92 Regal. For 5K I drove home in my very first car. I've had that Buick for almost 4 years now, and the only complaint I have is the brakes. All 4 calipers, rotors, lines, & the booster have been replaced. The brake pads wear out every year just like clockwork. No matter what, the brakes always feel weak. Other than brakes & routine mantainence, I've had no major problems with the car. 126K & still running like a top.
Very good car
This was a perfect car in every way but the brakes. It ate brakes and the manufactures knew it. I would get 20- 30K on new brake pads and it was back to change them.
Not a car for New England
This car was wonderful, for a while. I liked a lot of the features, however this car is not designed to be used in New England. The frame and mounts under the car rotted out, thus causing the engine to fall out ( while I was driving) it took out the tierod on the right side, and bent the axle, and ripped the steering pin out.. (no steering) I ended up hitting a telephone pole which totaled the car.
First Car
Got this car at 17 in 2012 and have loved it. Its incredibly reliable and amazingly comfortable. I put a stereo and Polk Audio speakers in immediately. I have fallen in love with my buick and often tweet about it.
BLAH What a sick car!
I started driving it and I realized that the air conditioning was blowing out no air! Then after about two hours of total driving the fuel pump went out, then about 10 min after the fuel pump was replaced 5 of my fuel injectors failed, then it was my electronic ignintion modulator, then it was 3 coil packs!!!!!!! In less than a week I had spent 900 dollars in repair, then it started leaking antifreez really bad, so I had it looked at and i was told a frost plug had rusted out, 48 dollars to fix, I had a cracked block! I hate it, I want to crash it into a train cuz watching it get demolished would be the best time I will ever have with this car
Reliable
When I purchased the car a kid that didn't know anything about cars owned it. He said that this was wrong with it and that didn't work. I got it home looked it over and all it was a couple of blown fuses. Changed them out and never had to much trouble after that. It is one of the best cars that I haved owned.
Love the Accelleration
This vehicle has some decent power and is a very comfortable ride. when you get up too 120 KM/H you feel like you are floating...i really recommend this vehicle if you want power combined with comfort. this vehicle handles well the only problem is the back end seems to swing out a lttle in tight turns.
A great and reliable car
Fun car, reliable. The 3.8 engine is awesome. The interior falls apart as well as the plastic items on the outside. For example, the center console arm rest shredded and the gear shift console caved in. The turn signal casing on the front driver's side fell off. The leather held up well. OUt engine has over 145,000 miles on it and it still runs great! Overall, we liked this car so much we bought one ten years newer to rplace it.
Mixed Feelings
Beautiful car. 67K when purchased. Power everything...but little by little all those power features turned against us. Radio controls, power windows, BRAKES which no mechanic was able to diagnose...the pedal was ROCK HARD as if the power assist has just given up. ABS went, intermittent Check Engine light, drainage problem with sunroof -- kinked drain hose inside the roof. AC compressor died. Near the end the car was just dead every morning. We'd jump it and it would be fine, or not. That was the last straw. With 120K, it was time to move on.
Love my Regal
Purchased Regal with 89,000 miles. Comfortable and enjoyable to drive. Silver paint is still in pristine condition and interior was well taken care of. I love the car with its full range of visibility all around and it has nice road feel. I hope to keep this car for years to come.
Joy of Ownership
I bought this '91 Limited as a local get-to-work car. But as it turns out this car is so much enjoyable to drive I make it my main transportation to wherever I want to go. THe 3.8 is a pleasure and the car is so quiet and smooth it's like driving a much bigger and more expensive car.
1992 buick regal gs
Bought new 1992,overall good car, comfortable on long trips.I have had several maint.issues, but it has never stranded me.I have replaced alternator twice, front brake pads 4 times, front rotors once, water pump once. All the rest was normal main.,tires, battery
Fun to own and drive
Provide quick response and handling. Turn radius is wide and must be planned. ABS excellent. Leather seat not best choise in florida sun crack care for regular Carpets showroom appearance despite 14K oginal tires poor in snow. tended to break loose. Goodyear. Pleasent to own and drive. Four wheel disc brakes excellent. Original calipers in rear froze require early replacement. After market cured problem. Trunk spacious, Original AC ice producing - really~!
Great car
My Regal was hit by another motorist, turning the vehicle into a roll. If my wife and little boy had been in almost any other vehicle than the reliable regal it could have been fatal. They walked away. Very safe car.
OK car
I have had multiple problems with the alternator and electrical systems. This car is only good for city driving, not highway. It has been in the repair shop overall 13 times for different reasons!
My Regal
My father bought this car from Mark Combs, and for my sixteenth birthday, he gave it to me.
MY REGAL COUPE
I HAVE A REAGL CUSTOM WITH A 3800 ENGINE IN IT . IT HAS 77000 MILES ON IT. FOR A 91 THAT'S PRETTY GOOD .IT RUN'S LIKE A TOP IT HAS NOT DISSAPOINTED ME IN ANY WAY.ALOT OF POWER AND GOOD LOOK'S.
Style.... Savvy... and hella fun!
Talk about an all around good car... you have it all rolled into one. This fun looking, power driving car is a good first buy for most people out there. It's good on fuel, not very hard to maintain, and a little speed demon on open highway.... have fun!
What a Keeper
My Regal Limited is now 18 years old and with only 97,000 miles on it still runs and drives like new. I think that the 3.8 engine has to be one of the best that GM has ever produced. Just thought it was kind of odd that this car is the Limited but has manual crank windows, but I have learned to live with them. Excellent car that I would recommend to anyone. And the gas mileage is tops.
GREAT SPORT SEDAN
1991 Regal Limited Sedan with the 3.8l is exceptioanlly fast, mine clocks at 7.1 to 60mph. It is a little body roll but otherwise it is very responsive. Luxury feel that can always haul ass.
Decent ride.
Purchased the vehicle, after a corporate lease, with 80,000 miles on it. Other than regular maintenance, there were problems with the rear break calipers (4 wheel disc). Replaced them twice over the next 60-70,000 miles. Come to find out there was problems with the rear breaks and a class action lawsuit was filed. Sometime after 90,000 miles the parking break broke. I have had no qualms about buying the vehicle.
A great car, fast, very comfortable, reliable
This car is a very well rounded car for real life driving, especially when you have to drive fast on the highway. It is most comfortable whether it be driving in stop and go traffic or at 85 mph. It's been reliable and solid. I would not mind driving it from Florida to Alaska and back. It has enough space in the interior for 4 tall people or 5 regular ones and the trunk is cavernous. Most recommended.
baby why ? or you poor poor thing
when i first laid eyes on her i thought wow! what a car. a car i can feel i have arrived, coming from a geo driver who now wishes she still had her geo.i am writing this review because i am so upset in how much money it will cost me according the buick dealership to get my baby purring again and see if she still got something. i need a entirely new braking system in md,temple hills area that will cost approx. $1952.00 please that more than the car. then i think maybe if the other owner had kept her up then she wouldn't be asking so much out of me
Reliable old car
Car is great and very roomy. Huge trunk for groceries. Pitfall is only one cup holder and it's on the glove compartment door. For someone with average arm length it's not accessible.
Super Car!
Very reliable for its age. Interior fit and finish pretty good. Exterior fit and finish excellent. A little sloppy under hard handling. Trunk space reduced by trunk lid hinges, but otherwise spacious trunk.
Good quality car
Great car, very reliable, decent gas mileage for a V6, however, its a weak V6 at only 140 hp. ABS is good, my AC is broken though. The sound system is actually really good even though it doesn't have a tape or CD player. Very comfortable, exterior design is not very stylish.
After the ninth year
The first ten years I had no problems except for the poor paint job. At the middle of year ten, I had to buy 3 alternators, and now the transmission is gone out. the electric antennae has been replaced 3 times and still does not work. My 2 wireless entry work but cannot fit a keychain. Dealer service poor in FL and NC. Spent $1500 and car returned in worst shape.
not bad for a granny car
ive been driving this car since 5/03 has 137k mi. but still feels tight and generally drives like new. brakes just got done and stop well though take some warm up time 3.8 has good torque off the line. steering is tight esp. for a buick and the suspension though somewhat harsh in town has plenty of travel and smooths out on hgwy. a good solid car with a great engine and wont make you feel like youve come right out of the retirement community (i'm 20)
Nice Car!
Hello, I glad I made a wise decision on purchasing this car. I Had no major problems with this vehicle. It'll take me where i want to go, whatever i abuse it or not. I'm planning on keep this baby until she's dies ... (the motor). You know what i talking about. So this would be a good car for a starter who's on a tight bugdet, it provides the best relabitiy ever. However, keep in mind, the repairs toward the car can be expensive. Good Luck, if u planning on getting one of these puppies!
