Just what we needed

We had owned a full electric car and had problems finding charging stations that worked or that had long waits on a trip from San Francisco to Phoenix last year. Most of our “trips” are less than 50 miles. Now we don’t have to search for charging stations on long trips but can use electricity for our daily rides.

The good... This is one fast SUV. Throttle response is right now quick! Passing, merging, just driving is FUN! Smooth ride, good handling. Used the self driving feature last night...wow. Interior is amazing, got the upgraded (Tartufo) leather and suede headliner. The best car I have ever owned! The bad... It's going to take me a month to figure it all out. I'm not tech ignorant...but this car is a computer on wheels, with an operating system that is confusing. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but if you are looking for a car to just get in and drive, this one is not it. You can, but to access all the benefits takes time. UPDATE: Well, been driving my BMW for over a year now, and my opinion hasn't changed much. Fast, quiet (especially in electric/hybrid mode) and comfortable. I drive it mostly in ECO Hybrid mode (one of 7 modes!) and averaged 52.2 MPG last year. But occasionally, when I'm feeling young (and the road is open and dry) I put it in Sport mode and have fun! It's expensive (especially when you add a dedicated 220V outlet to charge it) but worth it!

2024 BMW X5 50E, if looking for a PHEV, this is it

The 2024 model has greater electric power (for acceleration) and range, up to 50 miles with 100% charging (which you don't want to use all the time, ideally use 80% for 32 miles, which is still very good). It seemlessly gets assistance from the engine when faster acceleration is needed. Newest run flat tires from Pirelli are also much better than older run flat tires. It is actually easier to get the federal tax credit with this BMW than with other brands with comparable options, because you need to stay below $80,000 MSRP. Technical options are amazing. Just one shortcoming: they do not explain that interactive cruise control does not adapt to the speed of the vehicle in front of it and is just a regular cruise control. What they call adaptive cruise control is a relatively expensive option. BMW product managers made a mistake on this aspect and should have made it standard.

First BMW - not the last

Have owned many MB, Audi and Lexus - traded 23 RX 500H on the BMW. Lexus was great vehicle and had no issues at all - just wanted to try an X5. As nice as Lexus was, the X5 is a nice step up. Have X5 Loaded with nearly all options as was Lexus. X5 is smooth, quiet and fast. Nearly as good economy as RX500H. Merino Leather interior is beautiful and comfortable. Prefer seat comfort of X5 over RX’s. Dealership was also a step up in terms of attitude.

The refreshed car looks pretty cool and definitely attracts attention . Typical bmw performance , quick for its size and fun to drive .. tech has huge improvements with an end to end digital display, professional driving and parking assist packages. Some minor software niggles with car play &xdrive s/w not a deal breaker.

X5 Plug In Hybrid Road Noise Cresendo

Ordered a BMW X5 PI Hybrid after test driving a regular X5. Stay away unless you want to hear constant road noise on granular surfaces. It does have run flat tires which I'm sure contribute to the noise. BMW offers a vibration damper that helps but the dealer wants $500 to install the dampers. Very disappointing for a vehicle that cost 80k.

We Call Her Ghost

Special ordered dravit gray with many options to include fully tricked out M package with 21" 742M, open spokes.. Only to realize to get adpative curse, needed to add the professional driving package. Didn't need to spent $2100 for an option (semi-autonomous driving) which I would probally never use. I buy BMWs to drive them! Ghost is powerful, smooth, quiet and packed with technology. She is my 5th BMW 525i, 750li, 535i and 840i never disappointed. Looking for Ghost to exceed all of them.

Faster than my M50i

I didn’t expect performance gains as they weren’t listed by Bmw , which is typical, however, after using a dragy and testing 0 to 60 in 3.53 (3.37 1-foot rollout) and a quarter mile in 11.92 this beast is far faster than my M50i.

Unfortunately, I traded my 2023 X5 40i for this thinking I was “upgrading”…..the new dash/screen has the worst placement and it’s extremely awkward and low. The lighted logo and symbols along the passenger side dash is beyond tacky. But the worst thing about this vehicle is the performance! You can only go 50 miles on electric/hybrid, it lacks power and doesn’t accelerate like my 2023 X5 40i, the ride is rougher and the handling is way worse! While in sport mode I literally drove 32 miles and lost 97 miles worth of gas. Also, while in sport mode, the ride is extremely rough, noisy, and not pleasant! My old X5 (which I’m trying everything to get back) had the most powerful, smoothest, luxurious ride you could ever ask for even in sport mode. I’m so disappointed and can’t wait to get out of this vehicle!!!

Consistent Bluetooth issues. Google the car and it is a very common problem. electric mileage is very inconsistent and can vary greatly.
