2025 BMW X4 M SUV Trims Comparison

Trim level differences

The 2025 BMW X4 M is the ultra-high-performance variant of the BMW X4 compact SUV, which is itself a variant of the last-generation BMW X3. Confusing, right? The X4 M comes in a single trim that's exclusively powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six-cylinder engine that produces 473 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque. The optional Competition package ups output to 503 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque.

X4 M
Standard equipment includes:

  • 20-inch wheels
  • Adaptive LED headlights
  • Adaptive sport suspension
  • Power liftgate
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Heated front sport seats
  • Leather upholstery
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Integrated navigation
  • Harman Kardon audio system

The X4 M also comes standard with a number of BMW's driver aids and safety features, including:

  • Forward collision mitigation (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)
  • Blind-spot warning (alerts you if a vehicle in the next lane over is in your blind spot)
  • Rear cross-traffic warning (alerts you if a vehicle behind you is about to cross your vehicle's path while you're in reverse)
  • Lane departure warning (alerts you if the vehicle begins to drift out of its lane)
  • Parking sensors (alert you to obstacles that may not be visible in front of or behind the vehicle when parking)

Notable options for the X4 M include:

  • Competition package
    • Increased engine output to 503 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque
    • Choice of 21-inch wheels
    • M sport exhaust
    • Shadowline exterior trim
    • M sport seats
    • Extended leather interior trim
  • Driver Assistance Professional package
    • Adaptive cruise control (adjusts speed to maintain a constant distance between the vehicle and the car in front)
    • Lane centering system (makes minor steering corrections to help keep the vehicle centered in its lane)
    • Lane keeping assistance (steers the X4 M back into its lane if it begins to drift over the lane marker)
  • Executive package
    • Heated steering wheel
    • Heated front and rear seats
    • Head-up display
    • Gesture control for various interior functions
    • Automated parallel and perpendicular parking system

A number of stand-alone options are also available for the X4 M that increase its customization possibilities. These include:

  • 21-inch wheels
  • M carbon strut brace
  • Remote start
  • Upgraded upholstery
  • M sport seats
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Video data recorder
  • Wireless device charging

Which X4 M trim does Edmunds recommend?

The X4 M is available in one trim only, so our recommendation comes down to options. We would avoid the two 21-inch wheel options — the ride is rough enough on the standard 20-inch wheels. As such, we'd also skip the Competition package that includes those wheels and the rather obnoxious-sounding M sport exhaust. The extra 30 horsepower and 0.2 second shaved off the 0-60 time doesn't seem worth it. We would, however, opt for wireless device charging and the Driver Assistance Professional package, which includes adaptive cruise control.
