i must say, i was worried about getting a 745li, knowing all the issues those cars sometimes have. But i've really had no issues, & value wise, even if i get issues, its ok. This car is a true drivers car, has that amazing heavy yet sporty infamous BMW feel to the max! Its a pleasure driving this baby..feels nothing like the big huge sedan it is.

I bought this car used 2 year ago with about 45k on the clock. Since then I've done regular maintanance, nothing else. This car has been solid as a rock. Best BMW i've ever owned and I've owned a lot of them. IDRIVE is not that hard to get, works like a charm when you know how to use it. Navi is great and all electronics are up to par. I've tried Lexus, Infiniti, audi and benz, and the only close thing to the Bmw is the Audi. The Idrive is just the same as the MMI in Audi and the Benz version. They all have there quarks. The Lexus is even worse and less intuitive. All I can say is so far I've been overly impressed with this Bavarian Auto. Handles like a little car in a big body. A+++++

I will NOW only OWN a BMW for the rest of my life!!! I recently purchased this Great Condition Used BMW--745 Li Automatic on Dec. 20th! Merry Christmas to ME! I got a fair price and it only had 51,000 Miles on it! So far I have a mechanic change the oil w/Full Synthetic and I only USE 91 Premium Gas from Chevron and it drives like an absolute GEM! I mean it's nearing 2016, that means this vehicle is 12 years old! It's NICER, ROOMIER, and Better Equiped than any LATE Model American Car. I'm SOLD on German/European Engineering! My Mechanic looks it over and he drives a 7 Series! He said, Matt this is a GEM! Smooth, Seamless shifting on acceleration, and AMAZING Power! Pure Comfort for me and my guest in the front and in the Rear! My 11 year old daughter sits in the back at times w/a friend and says, "Dad, it's like a Living Room back here!" Amazing electronics, Amazing unparalleled POWER, Simply put--It's truly "The Ultimate Driving Machine" I just bought Bridgestone Blizzak Snow Tires and put 2 sand bags in the rear trunk and it's better than a 4 wheel drive truck I used to own! WOW--I'll NEVER drive another vehicle. Thank you BMW and the owner that took care of this previous to me!

I just love my BMW 760Li, It's a fun car to drive, sporty and luxurious!! But it does put a dent in your wallet. I got every option in my 760 and it all topped out at $119,800. My Wife has the Mercedes Benz S500AMG, and I must say the BMW is a whole lot better. It is a gass guzzler though< MERCIFUL!! I'm already used to the iDrive, I don't know why everyone is complaining about it!! If your not ready for a techological challenge, then don't buy the damn car!! Oops sorry!! but it's the truth! I have a silver on black 760Li, and I must say it gets alot of looks.

I think this is a close as it gets! This is my 4th 7 since 1985, they keep getting better. My last 745i 02 was crap and couldn't wait to get rid of it. This V-12 flies and get great mileage for such a huge G-force power plant. This 7 never breaks & the dealer gives me a free 7 loaner when I go for regular maintenance. The iDrive is the best part and I feel like I'm on the couch when driving. I can't wait for the new 2009 models and style with power plant improvements. I have the 100K extended warranty and only pay tires. I get looks all the time with black on black with black tinted windows. Thanks BMW.

I own a Z4 and 530 but obviously this is my absolute favorite. This car is powerful but a bit touchy on take off but very smooth when switching gears. All of the options are a bit confusing at first but now I like them. I get more than enough looks and comments when I drive it. I'm 6'5" and 240 lbs and this vehicle adjusts to my size very easily with more than enough fun and comfortable features. If you want something to brag about and be admired, this is the car for you!!!

I think this is the must intelligent car i have driven,i mean, come on, even if you dont close the door all the way the car will do it for you,(no kidding) the power is awesome, the fine details of comfort from head rest that"huges" your neck to a/c on the seat, are small "human" needs that makes this car not wanting to get off. this car got my big "thumps up".is a bit intimidating at first with so much technology at your finger tips but once you get used to,the car becomes "an excuse" to get out and drive.

I have owned many BMW's as a young man starting with 323i coupe, 325ix wagon, Z3, Z4, 528i, 535is, 540i, 740i, 740il and now a 2004 745i. BMW's are well made as evidenced by my 745i. I have all of the options you can possibly get including air and massage front seats. The car handles extremely well especially on long road trips. The idrive could be improved as it is a little slow to respond but intuitive if you're comfortable with computers. I know the 2009 have better lines and I wouldn't mind getting a new one but not yet.

I initially shopped for a car based on the needs of my back problems. The BMW 7 was and still is the most comfortable auto I have ever driven. I drive between Chicago area and Orlando, FL several times a year. I can drive straight thru and feel like I drove a couple hours. If I leave with a full tank of gas I only have to stop once for fuel on the 1,100 mile trip. This car is the greatest car I have ever owned. I am just about out of my 100,000 mile warranty and hope for many more years of trouble free performance. I would love a 2010 model, but I really love this one.

I'm not usually the type to go online and post reviews but this BMW has compelled me to do so. This is my 1st BMW and I am blown away! It's the most intelligent car that I've every experienced. This car has brought the "fun" back to driving. Driving to me used to be a chore. Now I look forward to getting behind the wheel. I bought a preowned 2004 745i and it has all bells and whistles (19" rims - sports package, satellite radio, heated/ventilated seats, soft close doors, adaptive cruise control, etc.). I am now a BMW lover. I initially planned on purchasing a Mercedes Benz S500 but I'm so glad I went with this. No problems thus far.

I extensively tested and researched the Mercedes S500, Audi A8, the Lexus LS430 and the BMW 745LI. This car clearly surpasses them all. Forget about what they say that the command control is confusing. I'm no technophile, but I mastered it in less than 10 minutes. This car comes with dozensmore features than the Mercedes and is less money. The Lexus is nice, but it is not a beast on wheels like the BMW. I use to teach Police Officers High Speed Pursuit driving so I know performance when I drive it. This car is simply the best. It combines the best of everything, luxury and high performance into one cool package.

If you travel and plan on returning to a car that unlocks at the airport, than don't buy this total cluster job! They claim to have solved the issues on this piece of junk, not the case. BMW Mobile phone still does not connect properly. Auto close trunk is not auto for the 3rd freaking time. Entire Nav screen goes into total lockup and dies. Yes the engine is great, but you don't get a chance to enjoy it, while in repair shop. Dealership is quite good, however forget about Germany helping them or any customer out with this pathetic piece of $78,000 garbage. Stay away from BMW producing disgraceful quality.

Loved the car at the dealer but spent most of the 10 months of ownership driving loaners since it was in the shop most of the time. In over 7 times for 14 different problems in 10 months. Warranty covered it all but have since filed a lemon law claim and am trading it in as soon as we settle. I was a big Japanese car fan for 15 years due to reliability and husband has been a BMW owner for 20 years but now we are running back to the Japanese cars. Don't buy this car unless you want to try all the BMW loaners out there and hope your dealership has really good snacks and coffee cause you will practically live there, that is, if they CAN schedule you in for service.

I test drove them all and the BMW won the ride derby. No complaints there but the I-Drive interface needs work. The controls are not intuitive and this from a computer programmer! Be prepared to spend hours figuring this out. Audio controls are really minimal - e.g. no CD track titles, no fast forward, no random across multiple CD's. Page numbers in index of owner's manual are almost all wrong!

I bought the 2004 because I thought the iDrive demons had been exorcised. Not so, and other recurring issues forced me to tell BMW to take the car back... and they did. During my 30 months with the car, I drove every loaner car that the dealership had. They tried to fix things but the problems wouldn't show up when the car was in their hands. When they did, they couldn't come up with permanent fixes. There is a reason the 7 series made it to #1 on Consumer Reports list of most problematic cars. I am switching to a less complicated 5 series and the first time I have to take it in for them to reload the computer... I'm done with BMW.

When the wife and I went shopping for our new cars, she thought she was coming home with the 760Li, well ha, that was for me, she got the entry level 745i. I had a 1999 S320 and she had a 2001 Audi A8. The BMW 7-series is the top of the line, I kind of like it better than the Rolls Royce I test drove, yes I like it better... My daughter and son took both cars to prom and they said their friends just fell in love with it. So did the whole family. There is really no words for it. I was going to purchase the 2004 Mercedes Benz S500 AMG but this caught my eye, my 760Li is a deep deep red and the wife's is just plain old black.

We have owned most every luxury vehicle sold in America, at the present time I believe we have purchased the best money can buy in our new 745i. Comfort, style and drive are all to be commended as the top of comparable auto's sold. The price is still a bit pricey, but no question can be in doubt regarding all the features we were looking for in a new car. We have traded our 745il in to update and have found the upgrade to be superior to our older model.

It may be too early to comment, however I recently purchased this BMW, my first. Previously I was a Lexus man, and in my household we currently own 3 Lexus cars. I say all this to say that I like this car. It is more of a fun driving vehicle than any of my other cars. I feel more confident at high speeds and maneuvers. I have seen complaints about the Idrive. I have had no problems. Of course like anything new one needs to become aquatinted with new concepts, but it was not difficult and I enjoy what it allows me to do.

It's a great driving full size cars, it performs better than my wife's smaller Lexus which gets me sea sick from its rocking ride, we both love the bimmer and are looking to get rid of the 6 month old Lexus. The A 8 might be a contender to replace the Lexus or the another 745i and i drive only took a few days to get used to and now it simple and makes it simple because we only need to locate one button while driving.

I bought my 745i after another car hit my previous vehicle. I was looking for something reliable, new and sporty and after test driving the 745i I had never drove in anything smoother even though it was an older model (2004). The car started off great despite a parking light but I expected minor issues since it had 165k+ miles. About another month later is when it all went down hill. Rain leaked into the fuse box and it wouldn’t let me turn my car on for several days until it dried. I then had a huge radiator hose leak also damaging the water pump pulley and developed a small oil leak. At this point I was tired of taking it to the mechanic and then my seal belts had a fault which my mechanic said was going off for no reason and after they turned the lights off, it continued to come back on. Despite all this, I was still driving it because over everything, it was still a really smooth ride and loved driving it. About 5 months on (175k miles) my transmission started to go out. At first I received faults which would go away and then at times I either couldn’t shift to drive or reverse. I’m here now with almost 180k miles getting a new car because fixing this just isn’t worth it anymore and I just need something more reliable. I bought it for $6k and If I hadn’t had any major problems I’d love it but I’ve had Problems with this vehicle from the start. Overall I wouldn’t recommend getting a 7 series unless you have a few extra thousand dollars to shell out for repairs.

What a dream car!, Looks, handling, great quality are typical of this and my previous 3 BMWs. After being inundated by all the new procedures from the starting to operating the vehicles too numerous features, I longed for the old simple Brake and gas models. But as I began to read and reread and reread I have begun to understand and use the (too many) features (most of which a normal person would never use or need needless to say understand). But from the solid door closing to the massaging seats to the sound system and the road holding traction it's a BMW. Brilliantly Manufactured Wonder. Yes! I do like my BMW.

I purchased this car with trepedation after hearing of the horrors of the I drive software system. The test drive closed the purchase. The 2004 is complicated but paatience gets you into a system that has a treasure trove of information. I like the styling and the performance of the car is just awesome with rapid acceleration and excellent gas mileage: I get 24 mpg at high speed on the highway and 20 around town. I had one fit and finish problem that was addressed by the dealer (a mismatch fit for the air vent.) The rear seat is cavernous with legroom for a Knick.

Before I purchased the 745li BMW - I would catch myself staring at it at every dealership, as it cruised by in the freeway, or on bmw's website. I saw nothing on the road like it! Everything is is comparable - but when you see the 745 on the road - there's no mistaking it for something else. I could only imagine that all those that stare at my car are thinking the same thing as I ride pass them. The only complaint I have is that no one can keep their eyes off this vehicle.

I've owned this car for 18 months. I LOVE it. It drives like a dream and I have had no problems at all. I have the all-way adjustable seats with a/c, heating and a massage. They are the 2nd most comfortable seats I've ever driven in (next to a Toyota Land Cruiser, believe it or not). The iDrive gets loads of bad press, but it's fine. I even like it. If you are not totally tech-averse, you will not have any trouble with it. Contrary to what's written, the most frequently used controls are still available on knobs on the dash. Sound system is great, but the two CD players (one changer, one in-dash single) is perhaps a bit of overkill.

I love the car, however I find getting use to the start/stop buttom takes some re-training. The same goes for the gear shift when going to park from drive or rev. Some people say the idrive is a problem. I am not what one would call a computer savvy person(61yrs. old) and have not had any problems working with it. Last week I picked up a friend from out of town after being in the car for 45min. he turn to me and said" this is the best riding car I have ever been in",(he is 59 yrs. old and I am sure he has been in a lot of cars). Needless to say I had a smile bigger then the happy face symbol on my face.

First BMW and it lives up to the brand id of Ultimate Driving Machine. The thing is a delight to drive, and to ride in. Very comfortable. Technology is over the top, but very manageable, and I look forward to the improvements there (e.g. touch screen, easier to see graphics with polarized sunglasses, etc.). Haven't driven the Audi, but this thing beats the Mercedes and Lexus hands down.

After owning Mercedes cars for 24 years straight (most recently an S class), I bought my first BMW. It has the best performance and interior of any vehicle I have ever driven. The exterior may be controversial, but I love it. The electronics are wonderful. If you have any experience with a PC, you will find the I-Drive to be intuitive, easy to use and useful. BMW's engineers were thinking clearly and creatively when they designed this car.

I have had several "top" vehicles, including mercedes and cadillac. None of them beat the performance and comfort of my BMW. I alternate between this car and my SUV (another brand), but love when I sit behind the seat of this car.

This is my 4th BMW and by far the best. I also own MB E class but I like the 745i better. The computer display could be improved to a more logical layout. It has too many things all over the place and could be organized in a more meaningful way. The parking distance and navigation system did not appeal to me that much. The performance and the head turning factor is tremendous.

After driving all the contenders, including the Jag XJ, Audi A8, LS430 and of course the Merc S, nothing makes as strong a statement as this one. Unbeatable drive and handling, smooth, beautiful, kicks the hell out of anything in its league. Only qualms are there are still some electronic glitches

We've driven Jags, Audis, Cadillacs, and of all luxury cars, this has to be the best. The car isolates you from the roadway and road noise. Response is immediate. Blending into traffic is fun, even with those crazy drivers that are bound and determined not to let you get in front of them.
