Used 1998 Audi A4 2.8 quattro 4dr Sedan AWD Consumer Reviews
Lots of troubles
I've bought this car when it had somewhat high milage of 82K miles about year and a half ago. I've put about 40,000 miles on it by now and while I really like the way it looks and drives (especially on the snow) it is a nightmare in terms of reliability. Everything which could get broken did. I've invested about $5000 in it already and can easilu fit another $2K just to make it run normally. Oil leaks, water pump, power steering, tire rod ends, wheel bearings, and honestly this is just the beginning of the list...
Audi A4 needs a lot of repairs
This car is really fun to drive but has needed a LOT of repairs. In a little over 2 years it has needed 6500 worth of repairs. I spoke to the extended warranty company (thank goodness I bought that) and he said they are losing their shirt on Audis. It is still a blast to drive, but beware of repairs.

lemon?
Inspite of no abuse & dealer maintained on Audi schedule we've had various problems with this car both electrical & mechanical. We've had to replace a drivers window motor, airbag sensor on passenger side, a rear differential while still under warranty. The car is about 5yrs old with 98,000mi & we now learn that the cam seals & cam adjusters need to be replaced. I feel that this is a major mechanical failure for a car like this. Based on our experience we would be hard pressed to buy another Audi. My 3 yr old Dodge Dakota Quad Cab with 71,000 mi has a much better track record than our Audi.
My car is junk
I bought the car with 39k last October, since then I have replaced all front control arms, brakes all around, now it is the shop apparently needs a new rear differential and possible wheel bearings. The front of the car keeps falling off, when I park too close to a curb. Cup holders don't work, my 850 volvo gets better gas mileage. Love the looks, hate the car. Local dealer sucks.
Stay Away!
Bought this car in '98, thought I was buying the ultimate car. All the seals leaked, problems with exhaust. Tie rods went, radiator developed a leak, as well as water pump. Wheel bearings went in two wheels, all with less than 50 K miles in 5 years! Noise in rear of car that two car dealers could not find, then told that rear suspension needed replacing. Traded in for a Honda, very happy now, but experience with Audi, who did not compensate me for my expenses and agony, was miserable. Audi is a four letter word to me now. Don't buy an Audi.
