Ahead of it's Time...& BMW
My first major purchase after graduating college was a loaded Pearl White 2006 Acura TL 6-Spd MT with 80k miles on the clock. The only prerequisite to finding a vehicle at the time was a manual transmission and <$20k asking price, so the TL fell into my lap by chance and my early 20's impulsive self drove the TL home the next night. Prior to owning the TL I had driven a decent amount of direct competitors such a BMW 3-series, MB C300, Infiniti G35, etc - but the 2006 TL dominated every competitor with ease, yet didn't receive the addoration it deserved at the time. This body style TL can be seen as frequently as Honda Civics in the early 2000's. Acura built these TL's to last generations while rarely looking dated, and the performance TL Type-S have no problem fetching huge asking prices almost two decades later. As for the TL -- one of the most timeless designs in modern sedan history because I can't think of any other mass produced sport sedans from the 2000's that didn't age poorly. The TL was the best looking sedan in production back then and is still more attractive externally than the vast majority of cars built in 2020. The paint and clearcoat was a joy to buff/detail, HID Headlights were brighter than my current vehicle and made driving at night a breeze, body panels and accessories were all flush and made with high quality materials. The interior is starting to look dated now in 2020, but the Front Seats / Steering Wheel / Pedals / Manual Trans combination is still the most comfortable cockpit I've ever driven in. The infotainment screen is definitely outdated but the OEM speaker system was top notch and put up with extensive abuse listening to Death Metal for 5 years. Lastly, I believe the 3.2L V6 paired with 6-spd Manual Transmission in the '06 TL were perfectly cast by Acura. For some reason driving my TL was more enjoyable than anything else I've daily driven. The engine is powerful, smooth, and retains a consistent powerband up to 8k RPM. The 6-spd Manual Trans was definitely buttery smooth at low speeds, but the real joy was how sporty and well it handled sudden (and near-constant) downshifts and acceleration. On top of everything, even the pedals were ideal. Brushed aluminium with grippy material so shoes never slipped off the clutch and spaced apart to my liking with the clutch catch point around 50% compressed (that never changed from when I bought the TL with 80k miles > trading it in with 140k miles years later). Obviously this generation of Acura TL's holds a special place in my heart, but I still find myself searching high and low for an 08 TL Type-S that's been resting in someone's garage for 12 years. One can hope!

Great Car...but not "perfect"
I have owned my Acura TL for 1 1/2 yrs. It has everything you can imagine as far as options, but it doesn't have auto lights or an aux jack. Another very annoying thing is that the car is very LOUD on the road- makes you feel like you're NOT in a luxury car. Other: leather is cheap. My center console has gotten so thin that it looks pushed down all the time. Just not what you'd expect from a car that costs around $40k brand new. In some light, the instrument gauges have such a bad glare that I can't see them. The navigation is great, the build quality is decent, and the car gets a lot of looks on the road. Definitely looks great when cleaned up.

these cars are junk
Blue tooth stopped working. Water would leak by drivers feet. Transmission failed at only 75,000 miles with a cost of repair of $6,000. Acura would not pay anything for repair.

Transmission went out at about 150,000
Update: Transmission went out going over the Grapevine pass in L.A. Had to junk the car. Very disappointed in Acura's "reliability." Will never go near another Acura. For the price, this may be the best used car available. This is like getting a steak at a hamburger price. First of all, the drive is outstanding. I usually crank the stereo when driving, but with my TL, I prefer to listen to the loud purr/soft growl of the TL engine at work. I've driven many a car in my day, but never one that hugs the road quite like this Acura. And the gas mileage is incredible for a car this fast. When parked, I listen to the stereo and the surround sound is mind-blowing. The seats aren't quite up to par with Volvo's, but they are business-class comfy. The moon/sunroof brings natural light into the experience. One of the few downers is the lack of an AUX input (but they put in a cassette tape player?!?!). It would also be nice to have daylight running headlights (why do only Canadian models get this important feature?).
