Fun car to own and drive
Our car is primarly driven by my wife. She loves it - in fact this is the first car we've owned that she truly loves. She always found fault with any of the other cars we've owned in 45 years of marriage. I rarely drive it except for long trips. It is a remarkable vehicle to drive on the highway.
sexy TL-S
This is by far the best buy for your money. It's powerful, smooth, reliable, very elegant. What more could you ask for. It offers a luxurious feel, and at the same time it feels like you're driving a sports car. I would definitely pick this car over any BMW, Infinity or Audi in a heartbeat. Its the most powerful car in its class and about 10 thousand dollars cheaper. It doesnt take a genius to fugure out that this car is a steal.

Another Transmission Failure
I thought I bought a car that had great value for the dollar, but all of you folks whining about a particular street not being on the Nav system need to get over it...just wait 'til your transmission fails! You won't need to worry about where your going, but about how you are going to get there! This is not what I expected for such a highly rated vehicle and the build quality we have come to expect from Honda. And if you think this is a fluke, go to http://www.acura-tl.com and http://www.acura-cl.com and find out how many other Acura owners have experienced transmission failures...that's right...FAILURE, meaning needing to be replaced!
Best Value for the Money
Looking for a car that has performance, luxury options, a quality build, and space. The Acura TL Type-S beats everything in the $30,000 range. I compared the top-end VW Passat (is feature-less in comparison), looked at Saab and Volvo (both are extremely small in this price range). 260 horses and rides like it's on a rail, quiet and loaded with features, what else could you ask for?!
Acrua TL Type S is a HIT
The best car I've owned. It's packed with standard features and I love the navativagion system. Great stereo too.
Great car never has been a problem.
I bought my 2002 tl type s with 150000 miles on in 2015 . I now have 206000 and my car still runs perfect. I'm 2nd owner and I believe original owner had to replace tranny at 70000 but since I've owned my car I have had no issues what so ever. The only thing I wish was better was the ac seems to not be a good as other cars but it maybe because of where the vents are located. My paint has faded due to california sun Ray's but other than that I still love my car. Will be driving it until it dies.

Homage to a great car and a great performer
We purchased this vehicle in 2007 with 134,000 miles for $5500. As of this review 2022, we have 269,000 miles and climbing as this IS my wife's daily driver, she won't let me sell it. It is completely stock no mods at all. Looked amazing, drove like new and interior looked like new in 2007. All I can say is don't buy used cars if you don't budget for maintenance, or can't turn a wrench. The epa stuff, the moving parts, the fuel systems, brake systems all wear over time ( on every single vehicle not just this one) and will need attention. Cars require regular care, ie oil and trans fluid changes, timing belts, water pumps, brakes, struts, tires etc. Acuras are no different. Don't race or hammer the gas in this car (or any car) and it will give you years or even decades of service. This transmission in my car has never been changed to my knowledge so it is on 269,000 miles (135,000 since i've owned it), It will give the hard shift from time to time, but it has tale tale signs it's gonna happen and if it starts then we address it. We get the fluid swapped at the local Honda/Acura with the low pressure100% fluid swap (I personally do not flush). It generally smooths that out. As of today it still has a classic look, rides smooth, corners like a race car but interior leather front seats are showing wear, rear still looks very nice, outside has picked up the daily dings and such but not a bit of rust or any paint peel (use wax occassionally and passes through the wash and wax cycle from time to time) We drive this vehicle once or twice a year cross country on 1500mile oneway (3000mile round) trips, non-stop except for gas and food stops(yes bathroom too :0 ) We get 29 to 30miles to gallon still on hwy (less than 20 city), and this motor does not burn a bit of oil. Still very quiet and smooth on the road. Will be driving to Florida and back again in just a few weeks 3000+miles round trip and doing so without hesitation of using this car. If they would build this car again with an improved transmission design, this would be the ironman of all of the Acuras and would be darn near indestructible. I would buy it again used and save the depreciation though. LOL. I rarely do reviews, but at this 20year birthday of my Acura TL, it deserved the highest praise I can give it, I am still happy owning it.
Used is the way to go!
Reliable and dependable. I have never owned a better new or used car. 264,000 and it still runs and rides like a new car.
Would like a "Twin"
Bought the car after being turned away by a snooty Mercedes Dealer. No transmission problems yet, did the recall on it. The tires are expensive, and can only get them at the dealer.Bose system is excellent added the X-M Radio to it. Get 30 mpg in normal driving. Love it....
Big Sporty Value Champ Car
I've had my '02 TL-S (non-nav) for some time. Considered BMW 325xi/330xi, Audi A4, Nissan Maxima, Saab 9.3, Lexus IS300/ES300. Acura won by being $10k less than the BMW for the same features and being more reliable. Audi A4 not reliable enough. Maxima not luxury-oriented; Saab to expensive and not reliable. Lexus IS300 is rear-wheel and so not appropriate in the snow; ES300 won't handle -- too soft.
Affordable performance and reliability
Driving comfort is the key to this vehicles superiority. Enough power when you want to punch it. No fears when you need to tromp on the brakes. Great sound system. Well placed controls and good driving visibilty make long trips and multitasking safe and enjoyable.
What a grate car.
this is a grate car, nice looks, Grate Power, A nice Bose sound system nice outside lights . Some things could be better like a little more room, bigger trunk.
