Love/hate relationship

I have such a love/hate relationship with this car. I came from a BMW 3-Series convertible that I couldn’t keep out of the shop, and it cost a fortune to keep on the road- struts, paint issues, convertible roof issues, the list goes on. I’d had enough, and figured after having several Acura’s, the RL would be a relatively pain free experience. And it was, for a while. While it may not be the sexiest thing on the road and doesn’t have the panache of the Bimmer, the RL AWD is excellent, it’s comfortable, plenty of pick-up, well appointed, and minimal fatigue on road-trips. But the RL too has become an expensive car. The timing belt assembly had to be replaced to the tune of $1300 (routine due to age), the alternator and battery quit on the expressway, a tow and another $1200 or so in repairs, and now, the front tie rods and an anomaly AC issue that two acura dealers have never seen before are ringing in at $1800. All these repairs in the last 9 months. I purchased the car in early 2017 with 55k miles, it’s now at 84k, garaged, never driven outrageously hard, and kept in pretty good condition. Parts have to flown in from Japan, so anything besides routine fixes come at a cost. It’s a great car, but man, she’s become expensive. A dealer told me RL repairs are no joke, so buyer beware! Good car, but prepared to pay top dollar.

Better then Lexus

Test drove all the usual suspects and actually bought a Lexus GS300 AWD and had to take it back because of transmission issues. So glad I did. An 07 RL came up for sale in my area and I jumped on it. Absolutely love this car. Got rid of a Tahoe and wanted AWD for my wife. Interior quality is better then the GS, Engine is better then the GS, Interior room is better then the GS, AWD is better then the GS, Exterior is not as pretty as the GS, but considering the RL was the same price for a year newer, same mileage, and more feats it was an no brainer. Just wish the Navi was available. This was literally the only RL available in a metro area of 2 million people. That has to say something!

The Acura RL w/Tech Pkg. is truly a dream machine. Dynamically engineered, superb build quality, fit and finish, quality materials and technically ahead of its competition. The RL is the best kept secret of ’07. It goes beyond the “Best Bang for the Buck”; this well crafted automobile has exceeded my expectations in every way.

Drove high end MBZ and Lexus for decades. Bought the RL for the seat (bad back) and took what came with it. For 20K+ difference I'm more than pleased with the result. The RL is a dream to drive, and the cornering is amazing. The engine has all the power I need. I concur with all the positive comments seen here and have only one big squawk. I HATE THE STEERING WHEEL! It's not the wheel that's so bad even if it is too slippery, it's that it's loaded with so much stuff it looks like a game controller. The shift paddles are right in the way for a clean grip as are the telephone buttons which I don't use either. Remove that crap and sticky up the wheel and I'd give "fun to drive" a 10 also.
